The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

I genuinely don't see the kind of expectation that some users have of MNHQ on any other forums. Bizarre.

Saucery · 25/08/2017 13:50

That they know the status of a membership and don't refer to individual members as criminals?

Whoah. Big Ask.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 13:50

@ibble I can't but if there was ever a check on my ip it would say I like lesbian porn thanks to adult nephew.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 13:55

Can you elaborate @yourvagesty on what you mean by big expectations as I think some of points Maryz has mentioned are not big asks but very valid points to site which is a business after all.

CoteDAzur · 25/08/2017 13:58

"I suggested using a bank card as proof of identity on here."

Hahaha not a chance in hell Grin

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 13:59

Any website can be hacked
There just needs to be a big enough payoff for people to invest time and money into doing it

BIWI · 25/08/2017 14:00

I'm one of the 800 on Reddit. Not because I was banned, but because I wanted to see what was going on over there, what was being discussed, etc.

And if ever you wanted to see what happens when posters aren't moderated, then it's worth going over there to be horrified.

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 14:04

Err no. I've thoroughly revised my opinion on bank cards. I'll engage brain further in future

endehors · 25/08/2017 14:05

And how on earth can you not definitively know? It's your site.

Yes, and how was the OP to know if communication with her had ceased. She thought she had been suspended.

As has been mentioned PBP/shoplifter, still doesn't excuse a poster being discussed and treated in such a manner. A little communication and transparency might have avoided all of this.

JustineMumsnet · 25/08/2017 14:07

So, thanks for all the input - I've now had a chance to digest the points raised as well as the overall sentiment and have talked to the team here and read this thread too.

In short, I think there are some things we should look at rejigging. It feels like the move to an entirely auto pop-up response for reports hasn't worked well for users - so we're going to reverse that change. The thinking behind it was that by automating our responses we'd have more time to explain our decisions on the boards but in truth, we need to do both.

It also feels like we might be waiting a bit too long for cast iron evidence of trollery rather than going with our (and your) guts a bit more and making a call based on the likelihood of risk.

And thirdly we'll also look at how we're dealing with suspensions and whether there's a better way of handling things than the current one.

Thanks so much for those who've taken the trouble to post on this and the other thread about emailed responses. We aren't always going to moderate things the way everyone wants but we are genuinely keen to improve our processes and you've shone a light on some stuff we can do better, which is much appreciated.

SerfTerf · 25/08/2017 14:11

Thanks @JustineMumsnet

PandorasXbox · 25/08/2017 14:15

Yes thanks for coming back to the thread and clarifying a few things.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/08/2017 14:16

That sounds like it might be an improvement!

"And if ever you wanted to see what happens when posters aren't moderated, then it's worth going over there to be horrified."

This. God knows I don't give two fucks about swearing, so it's not that, but some of those threads remind me of being back at school - "cliques" fighting behind the bike shed and lots and lots of bitching about other people.

Reading them reminds me of listening to my teens argue, seriously, but without the guilt that I should have instilled better manners in the people concerned, at least Grin

When I say previously banned I mean exactly that - i.e. a previous MN persona under which she was actually banned - having gone through that whole suspension process with that identity and finally been banned.

👠👠 dances in...whilst we're building bridges could we build a glitterball emoticon at the same time before Strictly starts?! Grin. We're up to 44 supporters of such a thing (that's more than you got for the cadbury's choccy bar, surely?)

SerfTerf · 25/08/2017 14:20

That sounds like it might be an improvement!

The reporting policy reversal in itself will make a massive difference, I think.

Thank you for your response Justine. That all sounds very sensible.

Gary is there a link to a support thread for the Glitter ball?

birdsdestiny · 25/08/2017 14:33

I agree what is going on over at reddit is unkind.
