The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

I've said it before and I'll say it again MNHQ are in self-denial. Easier to blame everyone else than to admit they have lost their way. A lot of their apologies are "we are sorry BUT" and then comes a string of excuses.

Do they care about us - hell no. We are just punters who post on a forum. The more punters they have the more advertising. For anyone at MNHQ to pretend otherwise is really patronising and insulting to our intelligence.

I very rarely have any real vested interest in threads and posts but the one thing I have noticed and commented on is the unconscious bias shown by MNHQ. Each person moderating is allowed for this bias to show through with no effort from MNHQ to keep it to a minimum with the result their moderation policy is all over the place. What they actively need to do is to invest their profit into some half decent training for their staff. But hey I'll probably get banned or shot down and do I actually care - hell no.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 12:24

probably just looking at figures and working out the best way to make big profit (selling the site?? If the Reddit people are to be believed) with no care for the users of the site (because we don't pay anything to THEM)

The users of the site are the product which is being sold so Mumsnet does need to have some care for us.
We need to be shaped, packaged, guided or steered in such a way as to maximize advertising Revenue.

I'm not really sure what that would look like .....is it a case of as many people as possible generating as many clicks as possible?

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 12:27

If the aim is to get posters to spend as much time as possible on site (as it is with Facebook) then the site needs to be designed in such a way as to make it compulsive.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 12:28

The management will want us to be addicted to Mumsnet so that we spend much more time on here than we really want to or can afford to spare
so whatever keeps is coming back and checking threads over and over again

IdoHaveAName · 25/08/2017 12:28

Bottom line is this. You're a mere ant. Yes you, reader. MN don't give two continental fucks about you. You may have given 100 hours of your time over the years to other posters. Do MN care? Do they fuck.

NerrSnerr · 25/08/2017 12:31

Ignoreme I do subscribe to Reddit and spend far too much time on MN. My point was, if a website is causing someone stress or upset maybe it's best to step away. Neither cause me upset but if they did I'd just delete the app.

CoteDAzur · 25/08/2017 12:46

"is doing some digging as to who owns what and so on"

I read that post, and it's all publicly available stuff.

Meaning, MN is required to divulge that info of "who owns what and so on", as a public company whose shares can be purchased by anyone.

JustineMumsnet · 25/08/2017 12:59

@DotForShort

I believe we're talking about a pbp (although i know that's disputed on reddit).

Justine, you have said a couple of times that you "believe" the person who received the email in error was a PBP. It isn't really a question of belief, is it? Either she was banned or she wasn't. Surely the only ones with that information, aside from the poster in question, would be MNHQ. Can you clarify exactly what happened, a permanent ban or a temporary suspension?

According to her own PMs she was a previously banned poster.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 13:03

@katronfon its water of ducks back I've been called worse in r/l but know also what's it's like to let things upset me.

@Nerr I would too but this isn't just about one issue though, it's also about listening and changing things.

Look at the voice of members that have been able to bring change to that in r/l.

MN is big enough it won't fall to its knees over this but it's silly to think that it's indispensable. I know only of netmums, baby & bump and here so still a niche in market. Just like a once big single parent site I belonged to refused to listen to members as it was top dog in that market. Guess what a banned member had an idea and now is running very successful business and other one closed, one thing they remember is that they no bigger than its members and always will to engage and listen. Yeah sure it gets it odd unhappy assehole.

If it was just one member having a bitch and moan we would probably roll our eyes but it seems there are many so surely something isn't right

Saucery · 25/08/2017 13:15

I find it laughable that there is no audit trail for member accounts. On every database I have worked with you can clearly see the status of those accounts. You'd know immediately if there was a Ban, a Suspension etc.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 13:22

Laughable really??
A big attraction of forums is it you can be anonymous
I don't think many people would sign up if you had to verify your identity so that everything you said could be traced back to you as an actual real life person.

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 13:23

According to her own PMs she was a previously banned poster.

No. She specifically states she has been suspended. Now there's either a difference between being suspended and being a PBP, or a proportion of us are posting like criminals. I've been suspended in the past, but I'm legitimately posting, and at NOT a PBP.

And how on earth can you not definitively know? It's your site.

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 13:24

If a poster is banned they can easily it just sign up with a new account and new email address which isn't linked to the previous account

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 13:26

I would, I have. Why wouldn't I, I've never said or done anything illegal. I'm more than comfortable with this, back on Reddit I suggested using a bank card as proof of identity on here. I can understand that would put some off, but at the benefit of more security and less trolling, that's something I would have been willing to do.

To not be able to collate member accounts and have knowledge of their status is mad on a site this size. Which rather begs the question, just how many of these 'unique' 10m users pcm are actually unique?

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 13:28

@ibble

Umm you do realise your ip is still logged regardless of anonymous nickname unless u know how to route ip (too tech for me). So becareful visiting those dodgy websites Wink

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 13:30

I was under the impression that it was easy to reset your ip? I'm not remotely savvy on tech stuff so I'm not going to be blown away if I'm wrong

ibbleobbleblackbubble · 25/08/2017 13:31

I don't know any dodgy websites ignoreme can you recommend any of ones that you use?

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 13:32

@theniff

No way would I register with a site just to confirm my id. Also given the security in pass here. I don't even save my card with sites I spend on.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/08/2017 13:34

No way would I give bank details to MN.

Saucery · 25/08/2017 13:42

ibble I was talking about generic accounts, not a full personal rl history.

You have User27464847261847. You can see when they joined, you can see when they left. You can see if you banned or suspended them.

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 13:43

Yeah, you've got a good point there with their security. So some sites, but not here.

Well, didn't take long to change my mind, did it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Saucery · 25/08/2017 13:43

I would be happy to have a verified account on a secure site. MN is not secure.

TheNiffler · 25/08/2017 13:45

ibble, if you're a sporner, I can recommend r/popping on Reddit. Proceed with caution though, it's not Dr Pimple Popper, although she is/was a member, and used to post.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/08/2017 13:45

No, it's not secure.

Saucery · 25/08/2017 13:46

The thought of bank details in MN's leaky servers is enough to make anyone change their mind Grin
