The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

It seems that it's ok to be a goadyfucker, it's ok to be a fantasist, it's ok to be an utter cunt (as long as it's on aibu) and it's ok to be a novelist. But reporting; that's troll-hunting and bannable

As far as I am aware MNHq clarified that they would never ban for posting. But a poster stalking another poster around the boards, including frequently reporting them could be cause for a ban.

Saucery · 23/08/2017 20:50

Of course people piss you off in the course of your work. You don't commit it to email and accidentally send it to them! This is their job. Managing an online community.

FerretChewToy · 23/08/2017 20:51

Though I haven't been around much and haven't a clue wtf is going on around here. It seems that it's ok to be a goadyfucker, it's ok to be a fantasist, it's ok to be an utter cunt (as long as it's on aibu) and it's ok to be a novelist. But reporting; that's troll-hunting and bannable [baffled]

Or a Daily Mail hack!

Wtf is going on around here?

GaryNumanIsOlderThanGaryOldman · 23/08/2017 20:54

Multiple reports are time wasting if it's a personal vendetta but if you have genuine concerns and think they are not being addressed and you are told no troll-hunting on the threads themselves, then you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

PencilsInSpace · 23/08/2017 20:55

I think it probably does need discussing if MNHQ are saying 'report report report' and then posters are getting banned for doing just that.

Maybe there needs to be a line in talk guidelines about what MNHQ consider abuse of the report button (not for a moment suggesting anyone specific has done this) so people know where they are.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 23/08/2017 20:58

I think that the people who are desperately offended by the suggestion that MNHQ ever refers to its users with less than total respect probably haven't spent their day wielding the banhammer on Ukrainian surrogacy clinics, witchdoctors, anti-semites, faux-naive MRAs and just plain GFs.

They may have been a bit rude in this particular case, I dunno, but given some of the moral detritus (fully logged in and accredited MN Menbers) they have to deal with, I think that no sane woman born could treat all MN users ever with respect.

But mn hq say time and time and time again to report, report, report and that they love reports so as long as you don't troll hunt on the boards then report and they will investigate behind the scenes.

This is a site with hundreds of thousands of registered users. if they know that a poster is just reporting to cause trouble then it's easy enough to just not respond especially given that they now have a policy of not responding to reports. However if we're to now be told that reporting is an offence which will lead to a ban if outside of their guidelines what's to stop posters from just voicing their suspicions on the threads in question if they're going to be banned anyway for troll hunting by reporting?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 23/08/2017 21:05

Where's the op..... how do we know she's been banned?

sobeyondthehills · 23/08/2017 21:11

Where's the op..... how do we know she's been banned?

There is a reddit subthread, which a few MNs went to after the threads which cannot be mentioned, the OP is on there and has said she is banned.

OlennasWimple · 23/08/2017 21:19

IIRC the inappropriate messages sent by the controversial poster recently weren't sent via MN PM but posters had given him their RL contact details and he was messaging them via WhatsApp - so there was nothing that MNHQ could do about them.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/08/2017 21:23

Someone who says they are the OP says she is banned ...

Escapepeas · 23/08/2017 21:25

FFS, if everyone on here claimed to have never been frustrated by people they deal with in everyday life, AIBU wouldn't exist. I once sent an email slagging off my boss to my boss - mistakes happen, and 'these people' is hardly the most insulting thing they could have said.

This smacks of shit-stirring for the sake of it.

ItsNachoCheese · 23/08/2017 21:27

Nice to know what mnhq really think... Hmm

NellieBuff · 23/08/2017 21:27

MNHQ: you have not exactly covered yourselves in glory for a while now. Regardless of the context referring to anyone or group as "these people" would actually land you in trouble with my employer's harassment policy. It does not matter what was meant but if you cannot keep it civil in your emails (any emails) you are in the wrong business.

endehors · 23/08/2017 21:31

Do you know something we don't, itsallgoingtobefone? Wink

endehors · 23/08/2017 21:31

Someone who says they are the OP says she is banned

This is true, the same person who orginally posted the email on the reddit forum, was still posting, so surely if they were not the OP of this one then they might mention it.

It might make more sense to say that she has said that she is banned and actually isn't

PencilsInSpace · 23/08/2017 21:34

I am frustrated by tedious annoying shits every day in work. I'd never put it in writing because look what happens.

JigglyTuff · 23/08/2017 21:37

It wasn't just WhatsApp messages. There was definitely at least one poster who made allegations about PMs

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 23/08/2017 21:39

Someone who says they are the OP says she is banned

It was Professor Plum, in the library, with the lead pipe.

We can all play at being shit detectives if you want, but it's not really going to get us anywhere, is it?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 23/08/2017 21:39

HQ have said for donkey's years that they can access PMs. Why anyone would think they couldn't (when it's their system) or wouldn't under certain circumstances makes that person look a bit forum un-savvy and daft tbh.

Likewise the belief that HQ are all wee Pollyannas who, in the privacy of their offices, never speak ill of MNers who do their heads by believing they have more clout than HQ do. Every workplace is the same. Clients do businesses heads in, and are called every name under the sun behind closed doors. Likewise teachers and parents etc etc.

And I speak as someone who received one of the "we've noticed you seem unhappy with the site so the door's over there" emails a month or so back.

DirtyMartiniWithAnOlive · 23/08/2017 21:41

Rebecca seeing as MNHQ are able to read PM's when they "really have to" I'm assuming you read PM's in relation to the David recent fiasco. Though you said you stood by him. Odd.
