Gransnet strapline - we would love your thoughts

Gransnet, sister site to Mumsnet, has a new look and is now looking for a new strap line to match. We'd love you to help us choose it if you can. First a bit of myth-busting (in case anyone hasn't yet ventured on):

  1. You don't need to be a gran (just as on MN you don't need to be a mum)
  2. For those falling into the right sort of age bracket - roughly 50+ - it works really well alongside MN (they're very different. Both is good!)
  3. We're firm on two things - 50 isn't remotely old, and even if it were age is no barrier to pretty much anything.

The most popular suggestions so far have been the following (below) - but we'd love to know your thoughts - and indeed any alternative ideas.

Gransnet - for warmth, wit and wisdom

Gransnet - a bit older, a lot wiser

Gransnet - older, wiser but definitely not quieter

Many thanks
CariGransnet and LaraGransnet

Fwiw I think the new home page on gn makes it look like a woman's magazine (for not very bright women).

Groucho Marx : I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

Lunaballoon · 10/08/2017 06:57

Love Gogsnet, TQ Grin

VanillaSugar · 10/08/2017 07:07

Gransnet - keyboarding disgracefully.

But even your homepage is a cliche: embrace the grey, have a croissant... in this day and age, we don't have to be grey at 50 and everyone knows that wheat and diary are possibly not quite as good carbs/protein as hitherto people would have us believe.

I want to see "Count down to Tough Mudder: Here's your training guide" "Why is Yoga the new supercraze? Elizabeth Hurley finally admits she does it after publicly denying she's ever done any exercise for 30 years"
"Mutton dressed as lamb? ODFOD"

If Gransnet is run by 30 year old hipsters then it will never work. Put Jenny Eclair in charge and I might read it.

lucydogz · 10/08/2017 07:18

Yes to the above. Gn is designed by people who think you lose half your braincells at 55.

lazycrazyhazy · 10/08/2017 07:43

I quite like Paxillin's "for parenting postgraduates".

I didn't know GN existed. I'm 61 with 4 young DGC my dog sitter is 70 with great grandchildren (just because some of you had children later doesn't mean some of us aren't grandparents) but I like MN's broad age range so I'll stay here please.

NeverTwerkNaked · 10/08/2017 08:13

Why are you asking us on here? Surely would make more sense to ask Gransnet?

EmilyAlice · 10/08/2017 08:15

I was just wondering how Mumsnet would react if they asked Gransnet to come up with a new strap line for them.

newidentiy · 10/08/2017 08:57

I am nearly 50 and about to become a nan. I hate the whole concept of all of those taglines, as other posters have said they are twee and patronising.

Age is not relevant and why do we need a board to move to just because you reach a certain number. I am younger feeling now than I was 20 years ago and have a whole lot more energy and am fitter.

You say your site is not ageist but I think the very concept of asking another board for a tagline makes a mockery out of this and again as previous posters have said are you going to ask Gransnet to do the same for Mumsnet - thought not.

saffronwblue · 10/08/2017 08:58

I'm 56 with teenagers. I don't want to be warm witty and wise. I want to be grumpy, snarky and engaged with the world. Like, you know, other humans.
Can you imagine telling a group of men to be warm, witty and wise?

newidentiy · 10/08/2017 09:06

I have also just had a look at the site and I will not be going back, the front page totally put me off with the more mature lady and the naff quotes I would have thought that this site was not aimed at somebody my age and circumstance but more towards retired people.

Maybe you should rename it retirednet

2014newme · 10/08/2017 09:08

What @vanillasugar said ^^

saffronwblue · 10/08/2017 09:22

Warm, witty and wise. Women still being expected to make others feel good.

MoonandSixpence · 10/08/2017 09:39

Just keep it simple, no need to talk about age. (we're old enough to have grandchildren, that bit's a given). So,

Gransnet - wise and wonderful

Have to say though that the photo you've chosen for the '4 unexpected uses for a vibrator' feature is such a cliched stock photo it puts me right off. (in case anyone's concerned, it's NOT a pic of a vibrator - might have preferred that, actually).

notinyournelly · 10/08/2017 09:50

"For parents of parents"
"Wisdom comes with experience"
"Advice and support for grandparents"
Wisdom and support?

MoonandSixpence · 10/08/2017 09:58

notinyournelly, 'For parents of parents' is genius Smile

Pansythepotter · 10/08/2017 10:05

But, a lot of people on Gransnet are not parents, just as lots of MNetters are not Mums.So many posts on both sites have nothing to with family matters.

Maybe it needs a new name , rather than a strap line. I have read the posts and it seems mainly people in late 60s onwards

elQuintoConyo · 10/08/2017 11:00

Gransnet - how to knit yourself an orgasm
Gransnet - fuck yeah!
Gransnet - we go wibbly for Adrien Turner, too

SisterMoonshine · 10/08/2017 11:03

I like FantaticButtocks' 'old enough to know better' Grin

Puggsville · 10/08/2017 13:13

I like what Lindsay Buckingham (bloke) of Fleetwood Mac says I don't practise old age

He turns 68 this year and is currently touring with Christine McVie who is 74. Next year they'll embark on a two year world tour with Stevie Nicks who will be 70. Her current solo tour is the 10th highest grossing tour in the US of 2017.

MNHQ would have sent them to the knackers yard. Or Gransnet.

Kpo58 · 10/08/2017 13:34

Gransnet: Unaffected by PMS.

LaraGransnet · 10/08/2017 15:00

'by parents of parents' - that's brilliant!

Thanks all, there are some great ideas here. We had some great strapline suggestions from gransnetters but it's useful to get other views too.

specialsubject · 10/08/2017 15:39

Nice strapline, shame about the site...

I qualify on age but the images, subject matter and crap typeface make it look like blue rinse central. No chance.

JaneJeffer · 10/08/2017 15:48

special 'blue rinse central' is the perfect strapline Grin

SerfTerf · 10/08/2017 15:56

That's a bit rude isn't it special? Considering they said that they've just relaunched it?

FWIW I think that's a nice a clean looking appearance/typeface.
