Anyone interested in a Crime Section?

Any chance of a True Crime Section please HQ? Then those that find discussing such things distasteful can hide the topic.

You think a section on True Crime would be tumbleweed Fallon?

MycatsaPirate · 02/01/2017 17:16

Yes please.

I love reading about all the old crimes.

MarciaBlaine · 02/01/2017 17:18

I'm in. Being reading about Jeremy Bamber over Xmas...

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 02/01/2017 17:34

I'd use it if there was.

TheCrowFromBelow · 02/01/2017 17:40

I bet loads of threads would be deleted.
I'm not a fan of true crime discussions, they are usually just ghoulish gossip and we already have a section for that.
But then again I could hide the topic so it could work for me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/01/2017 17:46

Obviously T and C's would still apply , I'm not suggesting a free for all,and yes it can be hidden if wanted.

Vanillamanilla1 · 02/01/2017 17:57

Put me down for that
I love true crime stories

Toooldtobearsed · 02/01/2017 18:03

Yep, i am in.

Need not always be 'current' crime WellErr, would you view the Princes in the Tower as crime or history? (Just a daft example).

There was a radio 4 podcast a while ago, 'who killed Elsie Hood'? That could easily be discussed, although her siblings are still alive, she was murdered a long time ago and they are very keen on keeping her story alive.

There are a number of obvious subjects to avoid. Threads WILL be deleted, without doubt, but coupd potentially be the most interesting to0ic on the boards 😉

Simonneilsbeard · 02/01/2017 18:09

Yea I love watching historical crime documentaries.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/01/2017 18:13

No-one will post in it though, it will be tumbleweed in there. Not because not enough people want to talk about it, but because

a. There's, what, 200+ topics to start looking through on the off chance that your niche topic is there? So
b. everyone posts in _Chat or AIBU because it's easier or
c. everyone posts in_Chat or AIBU "for traffic".

Maybe MNHQ need to have a mass New Year clear out of topics first.

I sound like my own mother here - "No you can't have a new topic MLP, you don't use play with the ones you've got."

BishopBrennansArse · 02/01/2017 18:16

Ooh yes please

mrssmith79 · 02/01/2017 18:17

In theory it's a great idea but in reality it'll be wall to wall trigger warnings and edited titles for the sensitive snowflakes. Would get right on my wick.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/01/2017 18:17

The thing is if crimes are discussed in chat atm it gets shut down by people who think it shouldn't be discussed at all. It would be lovely to have it all in one place so those posters can just hide the topic.

OP posts:
Cherryskypie · 02/01/2017 18:19

It would be useful to keep all the vultures in one place.

Toooldtobearsed · 02/01/2017 18:25

But Cherry, that is unfair.

I am more interested in historical crimes, not ongoing cases. I am not a vulture (i dont think), i just find the subject fascinating.

You are actually far more likely to get vultures on chat or aibu than in a dedicated section.

If i want to mention a tv programme, i post it in tv, not chat or aibu, and find that it is like minded people that respond, becuase it it something they have an interest in, not because they want to rubber neck.

Is a good idea.

Cherryskypie · 02/01/2017 18:29

You can try and discuss historical crime but it's recent cases of child murder or disappearance that bring out the ghouls. I'd be happy if they were off the main boards.

IRegretNothing · 02/01/2017 18:35

I'm in favour of a crime section as I mentioned upthread. I find true crime and historical crime fascinating in spite of myself.
A crime section, whether used lots or a little would serve both those of us who want to discuss it and those who find it ghoulish by keeping it all in the right place and allowing people to block it.
I also don't think calling people special snowflakes is going to help our cause though. Let's please be respectful, some will find it unpalatable for a variety of personal reasons and not because they are special snowflakes.

Sparklingbrook · 02/01/2017 18:40

I think it would be good. I would hide it and MNHQ would know it's a topic to be monitored a bit.
If it will just be endless speculation about MM or in the news crimes for instance though that's not a good idea.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/01/2017 18:53

I do think that respect should be extended both ways, an interest in crime doesn't make you a 'vulture.'

I totally agree Dame , uncalled for and unnecessary. I was tempted to call cherry out on that comment too but I guess that's their opinion and tbh I couldn't be arsed! I think Cherry has registered their opinion so hopefully there's no need for them to keep knocking about on this thread.

KimmySchmidtsFakeXmasSmile · 02/01/2017 19:25

Count me in dame. Smile

BishopBrennansArse · 02/01/2017 19:27

I'm another who is definitely in the historical camp, particularly if it has local links to me (or John George Haigh).

I certainly don't like to speculate or discuss current stuff.

OpalTree · 02/01/2017 19:39

If people find it unpalatable for personal reasons that's all the more reason to have a separate topic so they can hide or avoid it

Thattimeofyearagain · 02/01/2017 19:40

Yes, me too.

RebeccaMumsnet · 02/01/2017 20:26

Hi all,

We have recently had a bit of a topics cull and zapped about 75 topics Shock

We'll have a think on it but we do tend to have to jump in and zap speculation on 'crime' threads. Obviously, if it's In the News you are welcome to chat about it in that topic for now.
