Shiny new thread.

Hopefully won't get derailed.

OP posts:
Smartleatherbag · 18/10/2016 22:43

Hate, you're exactly right. HQ post was an utter disgrace.
Sorry for butting in, I've been lurking on this and other threads and getting more and more angry.

Akire · 18/10/2016 22:43

How awful "I work with black kids I woulnt want live next one" would be rightly jumped on. Replace with Disablites ..., ye can see their point!

BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 22:44

Hate can I just say thank you for saying that, I reported your comment about throwing us to the wolves as it's exactly how I feel and as you're not strictly in the community they might listen to you!

I really think it was a most awful post HQ and you got it wrong.

BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 22:45

Thank you too, Smart.
Could you and Hate both let HQ know your comments direct? You never know you might be listened to as you're not 'one of us'

OP posts:
Mozfan1 · 18/10/2016 22:45

We know the truth Auser, they might be HQ but it doesn't mean they're right about this. We can't start second guessing ourselves now.

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 22:47

And this is why I think (again) there need to be proper paid staff at night who can respond. I'm reporting the fuck out of that button and getting nothing back. And there just isn't a paid staffer on at night to respond anyway. Although Rebecca's post was so shocking I'm no sure that would be a good thing

BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 22:48

Apologies Smart, it appears you are very much 'one of us'. But email them anyway before they realise that Wink

OP posts:
BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 22:49

I've just realise by the way that it's Auser. As I'm A user. I was pronouncing it Auser like autism Grin

OP posts:
Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 22:51

It's a user not a number because I had a number name :)

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 22:53

I mean user12334567876433674 or something. And I got slated so I changed it. Eventually when I figured out how (was not easy!)

FlouncingIntoAutumn · 18/10/2016 22:53

Oh, i read it the same. I'm still getting over no longer reading dixie as dixie but dicks E!

Smartleatherbag · 18/10/2016 22:54

I will do Smile. I've only recently become One of You, ha ha! It's certainly been eye opening!

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 22:57

I'm heading to bed. I don't know if I will be able to cope with coming back and posting here but I will be reading either way

CandyMcJingles · 18/10/2016 22:58

I've just read Rebecca's comment.

So let's apply the other Ism rule.

Is racism free speech? To be discussed and debated and to ask advice on?

Is sexism free speech?

Absolutely outrageous Rebecca. You are saying the op is more important. I thought we were equal.

For all I enjoy on MN, the lovely ninjas, the Christmas bargain thread, it's not worth feeling tainted by this shitty discrimination that is actually justified by the organisation itself.
Do you knit see we are not after a scrap? We are not awkward. We are not over reacting.

We have a point.

HerSpookyFattyness · 18/10/2016 22:59

ok, I obviously missed a lot today

CandyMcJingles · 18/10/2016 23:12

Rebecca mumsnet.

The vast majority of any challenging youngsters who live in the home that is proposed will have a disability of some kind.

Read the thread with that in mind and the disablist attitudes shine through

Can you really not see that?

*Yes, we totally can. However, the OP was asking what others would do. There was no mention of disabilities. Yes, as a society we should be more understanding and considerate but the OP's immediate consideration is for herself and her DC, as is the case with most of us and she can ask the question.

Really, we want mumsnet to be a place where you are allowed freedom of speech, where others can question each other and support one another through life's trickier twists and turns - no matter what they may be*
The most disablist post on MN?
Reported!

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 23:13

Let me re write the title of that thread. And the op

Supported living for young black people being built next door.

NC for this as could be outing. This is more of a WWYD really. I am at risk of sounding like a right NIMBY and I hate that its bringing this out in me but...
I am a single parent about to move to a new house. Building work has started on a 'supported living for black youngsters' development right next door.
Now, I have lived in some of the most gang-riven areas in the country without a thought but in my old age and with a child I admit I am worried about crime, drugs and ability to sell house on. I love the house and everything else is good.
WWYD? Still proceed with the purchase?

This is a genuine post, I don't have many people to discuss this with and I have never worried about house values etc in my life! I am genuinely surprised at my reaction to this.

HQ. Do you get it yet?

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 23:15

candy it was aimed at me, as well, that post from Rebecca and I am incredibly angry. In my opinion It was patronising. It was dismissive. It was belittling and it was disablist as all get out.

And there were threats on that thread that we would be suspended.

I really feel awful.

HerSpookyFattyness · 18/10/2016 23:18

That's an awful post from rebeccamumsnet Shock
auser has it spot on in their post rewriting the OP.

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 23:20

How long would it last as I rewrote it?

I'd say 5 minutes tops.

CandyMcJingles · 18/10/2016 23:20

Yes I've reported it for disablism (repair my post where ive quoted it)

CandyMcJingles · 18/10/2016 23:21

Report!

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 23:22

I've reported it too. Reported it when it was posted. And heard nowt. I don't think HQ can see the problem and given that it's doubtful they'll see a problem with Rebecca's post :(
