Site diverting to irrelevant gaming(?) app.

Surely it's not just on my phone? Innocently scrolling through any old thread, with no advert in the middle of the page, I'm suddenly confronted with a huge advert. Clicking to delete it just takes me to an apps thing.

Why is it happening?

And again just now:

Just had it again. Getting v bored with this.

BertieBotts · 20/06/2016 06:33

Here's this morning's lovely redirect. Again, when the pop up comes it disables all the buttons on the browser so I have to close the whole thing out and quickly hit home before it reloads when I restart the browser.

Still happening on my phone too: the Cyclops ad linked to unthread. Hope you can get it fixed soon, it's been ages and it's really irritating.

Springymajig · 20/06/2016 21:35

Still happening quite frequently. Perhaps 1 in every 15 page loads, if not more often.

Still happening for me too. V annoying

BestIsWest · 21/06/2016 05:50

Me too.

Gruach · 21/06/2016 06:26

A year from now we will all be enslaved to Cyclops. 24 hours a day.

We won't remember a different way of life ...

PseudoBadger · 21/06/2016 07:14

Cyclops. It's the way forward. All hail Cyclops.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/06/2016 08:14

Me too
This seems to keep happening , gets sorted and then starts again
It makes the site virtually unuseable

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 21/06/2016 08:15

Between the trolls goady fuckers and now this it's a bit crap as a site at the moment
Good job Wimbledon starts next week

Gruach · 21/06/2016 08:24

Is it only on the mobile site? (I rarely see MN on a laptop and don't use the app.)

As long as it's intermittent and can be dismissed by pressing the back arrow on my phone I'll reserve any raised blood pressure for more important things - but if it can't be controlled then surely it might get worse?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 21/06/2016 08:43

Well mine can't be dismissed by pressing the back arrow and it's done it again. This time I couldn't even use the home trick. Luckily I was able to close the tab.

I can't post Screenshots from mobile Internet because my speed is capped. Will add later, but you can see it looks like it's trying to download something. I'm worried about it! Being redirected to that site and whatever it's loading made my phone get really hot too which is a concern as it drains battery life and also if a lithium battery overheats they can explode. I'm sure a website wouldn't do that but it shouldn't be happening.

JennyHolzersGhost · 21/06/2016 11:08

Just had it again. Mobile site. The Cyclops ad.

RebeccaMumsnet · 21/06/2016 13:00

Apologies that this is taking so long, we are working on it.

Can we ask please to tell us your Browser and device info and the exact URL of the website where you've noticed the ad, so that the Ad quality team can find the root cause of the issue; and, suggest a proper resolution as soon as possible.

Huge apologies, we look forward to your answers, thank you.

BertieBotts · 21/06/2016 13:10

Do you mean the website it's redirecting to or the thread we were looking at when the ad came up?

BertieBotts · 21/06/2016 13:18

Device is Samsung s5 mini. Browser standard android one.

(This is a huge pain to copy and paste on a phone)!

I was viewing this thread:

12month old refusing to drink any
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/parenting/2666456-12month-old-refusing-to-drink-anything-but-milk-refusing-sippy-cup-too-Help

Got redirected then by the looks of history six times in succession (presumably to stop me pressing back)

In order:

The ones which appear twice is a quirk of the way my phone stores history. The non link text is the page title but where there is no title the phone uses the URL, so it appears twice.

Gruach · 21/06/2016 13:28

IPhone 6. Safari.

From countless entirely random threads; Cyclops leaps out, covers screen; if I click "x" top right instead of disappearing the thing takes me straight to what appears to be their App Store page.

Very alarming the first couple of times - it happens so fast you're not sure what you're seeing and can't be certain it isn't something immoral / illegal / or phone destroying ...

As I've said above, on my phone clicking the back arrow gets rid of it - but only til the next time.

Googling this markketinghub thing suggests it's a virus. But I only ever get it when I'm browsing mumsnet. I don't see it pop up from any other website. And I don't think it's possible I could have a virus since I don't install non-market apps.

If it's relevant, I'm in Germany which might be why I'm getting "download available" rather than cyclops but it started as the game website a few weeks ago.

BertieBotts · 21/06/2016 13:41

I can see the pattern now. If I load a thread and an ad appears at the top it's fine. If the ad space stays blank after the thread has loaded, the page begins to redirect and then the dodgy game site, the "you have a virus" or "update your phone" or "offers" page appears and I can't press back because it just gets itself stuck in a loop.

RebeccaMumsnet · 21/06/2016 15:48

Thanks a lot all, we have fed that back to the ad people who are looking.

Fingers crossed, we'll get to the bottom of this.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 21/06/2016 16:43

iPhone 6+ running safari too.
