A number of us here have a love of pen porn and wanted to know if there was a grubby little corner you could stick us into??

And if MN wanted to create special personalised pens for us as well we will love you forever...

I have a couple of these Faber Castell pencil sharpeners. They have three different pencil sizes (up to their chubby learner pencil size) and the blades are super sharp.

BUT if you open it at the wrong corner all the shavings fall out! Shock
I only needed do do that once...

That looks like a Star Wars prop, love it. Maybe the kids will sharpen their own if the sharpener is attractive.

SoupDragon · 17/05/2016 13:56

I have one of those pencil sharpeners, Sgtmajormummy. And yes, I've had to sweep up pencil shavings :o

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/05/2016 14:09

I've made that mistake with those sharpeners too. DS (dyspraxic) got an electronic sharpener in his Christmas stocking last year and it is much loved by all of us.

LemonRedwood · 17/05/2016 20:36

I did not need this. But I am going to love having it on my desk Grin

I use Staedtler double hole sharpeners - www.staedtler.co.uk/en/products/pencils-accessories/sharpeners/ and it irritates me (more than it should a more balanced individual perhaps) that they don't do the double one in the red/yellow/black colourway to match my jumbo noris club pencils, only in the single narrow hole sharpeners!

stealthsquiggle · 17/05/2016 21:17

Awww - where did the post it kitty come from, Lemon?

trannywhitherwax · 17/05/2016 21:52

I have been away and am now back and delighted to see hard-core stationary porn with its own cupboard. Since no one is watching, I am happy to confess that I have 4 fountain pens with parallel slit nibs (music nibs) and one pen with a cross-cut 4 slit nib and I lust for the 6 slit nib that can only be used if you whitewash the side of a house to write on.

There, I've said it - I am a slit slut and I don't care.

CrazyDuchess · 18/05/2016 00:56

Hahaha tranny - sadly we are without a corner as yet but soon my friends....... very soon

What is all this slit talk I am hearing??!!?? Explain the benefits/difference please

it's like dirty talk in my ear

Ooooh, I have some of those nibs for my dip pen! They draw several lines at once, hence "music" nibs as you can draw music lines with them.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/05/2016 09:14

Ok all you penexperts. Can you help me please? My lovely new Kaweco pen totally looks the part when I take it out but has a tendency to be a bit recalcitrant on the actual writing front. Sometimes it starts ok and then burps over letters as I go along. Sometimes it refuses completely and leaves me inkless at crucial moment.

Does anyone know if there is a way to improve the flow of ink to a nib?

Seeyounearertime · 18/05/2016 09:24

Frozen

Is it a new pen? new nib? It may need a little "settling" time. There may be a little sediment in the ink where it settled before use. Try rolling the pen in your hands before use, kind of like rolling nail varnish to warm it up, iyswim?

If all else fails try cleaning the pen in cold clean water, leave the nib to soak repeatedly until the water remains clean. reassemble the pen and retry.

trannywhitherwax · 18/05/2016 10:13

The Kaweco pen problem can probably be improved by an overnight soak in cold water. If that fails, nibs can be tweaked to open the slit a little to improve flow. You just need to find a dedicated pen shop with that kind of expertise behind the counter.

trannywhitherwax · 18/05/2016 10:20

On the subject of multi-slit nibs: the most common music nib has 2 which allows a thin line at one orientation and a blob at another. Supposedly this makes it better for writing down musical notes but I like it as an easy everyday italic writer.

Japanese multi-slit (and multi-layer and multi-angle) nibs derive from their tradition of writing with brushes. Depending on how you hold the pen, you can write a line that varies from extra-fine to above quadruple broad. Not me, not yet.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/05/2016 10:35

Thanks so much Seeyou and tranny. I will try the rolling technique today and if that doesn't makes things better, I will go for the overnight soak tonight.

I knew MN (nearly) Stationery Cupboard would come up trumps!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/05/2016 10:39

P.S. for anyone who isn't already on the www.bureaudirect.co.uk newsletter list, you might want to head to this link:

prpage.co/EAv?utm_campaign=May16_Organise&utm_source=emailCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=

today to enter a competition to win a Bullet Journal bundle which includes lots of wonderful stationery items, not least a LAMY vista pen and cartridges. Today is the last day to enter but they have new competitions every week (so far, I haven't won sadly, but fingers crossed).

CrazyDuchess · 18/05/2016 11:31

Applied :).

OP posts:
Paperkins · 18/05/2016 12:19

Oh no Frozen you are reducing your chances to win as we all go and enter Smile

SoupDragon · 18/05/2016 12:58

unless she used her personal link that gives her extra entries...

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/05/2016 13:09

Aargh! No, I never thought to do that SoupDragon. Doh!

Never mind - it would be lovely if someone on here won (obviously even lovelier if it was me Grin)

SoupDragon · 18/05/2016 13:23

:)

I entered a few days ago. That blue one is mine dammit!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 18/05/2016 13:29

I'm after the daffodil. Shame there can be only one winner...

seeyounearertime · 18/05/2016 13:29

Shame there can be only one winner...

yep..... me.... thanks all the same ;)

stealthsquiggle · 18/05/2016 13:35

I think you'll find it's mine.

But if some mistake has been made, then I would certainly rather it went to one of the MN Stationery cult than to anyone else.

Paperkins · 18/05/2016 14:14

Daffodil's mine....you're welcome to the blue one.
