A number of us here have a love of pen porn and wanted to know if there was a grubby little corner you could stick us into??

And if MN wanted to create special personalised pens for us as well we will love you forever...

There you go Pax, not quite WHS but it aint bad.

my my my, arent i in a helpful mood?

paxillin · 09/05/2016 22:54

Well, that's the stocking filler sorted, off to the Christmas topic to announce Xmas Grin. Christmas is a bit niche in May and they are allowed a topic, so should you. (Especially if you'll volunteer a stationery agony aunt thread)

RomComPhooey · 09/05/2016 22:58

You joke, but I complained loudly about a massive showy 'book your Xmas 2016 office party here' on a hotel nearby at the weekend. DH said it had been up for about 3 weeks aleady! Shock

paxillin · 09/05/2016 23:10

I like the fact there are lots of Santas busy on MN. It's lovely to know all the people keen on cooking and housekeeping Kondo the world in their topic and the preppers are ready for the apocalypse.

stealthsquiggle · 09/05/2016 23:11

Pax - it's an expensive option, I admit, but I chose to educate my stationery addict DS in the delights of moleskine and the like - especially the ones with squared paper.

DD is still a sucker for owls and birds of paradise, though and a lot cheaper as a result, were it not for bloody Smiggle

paxillin · 09/05/2016 23:20

Hm, moleskine for the endless plots of dragon inspired plays. Will ask what he thinks, but I think a gory skull would win it hands down (now, if they would be £4 like the butterfly ones...)

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/05/2016 09:37

Oops sorry just seen you already foud the Dr Who stuff.

paxillin · 10/05/2016 09:40

There's a Dr Who colouring book! A must have.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/05/2016 09:46

Another try. Skateboard design. Not cheap unfortunately: www.zazzle.co.uk/skateboard_notebook-130246305824026266

paxillin · 10/05/2016 09:55

So this stuff is clearly out there, WHS just thinks notebooks must be pretty. I got a good dinosaur skeleton one in the Natural History Museum before. Cost a King's ransom of course.

stealthsquiggle · 10/05/2016 10:23

ahem

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/05/2016 10:28

I had a quick look on the WHS website and there seem to be Star Wars, Spiderman and camouflage notebooks. That is in the £5 and under category.

Wilko has a Star Wars range or a Dinosaur range. Otherwise it is fairly pretty in its ranges, or you go for plain Moleskine style. Bit dull though.

Sainsburys has a nice Marvel one if that is his thing: www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/marvel-a5-lenticular-comic-notebook

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 10/05/2016 10:30

I think I may be in danger of getting a bit obsessed about this, so sorry, but depending where you are going on holiday this summer, I have always found French hypermarkets to be a treasure trove of good school stationery, for both boys and girls if memory serves. The only trouble is a lot of their stuff is squared rather than plain or lined.

stealthsquiggle · 10/05/2016 10:39

I am seriously tempted by this one for DS. You can even choose what sort of paper Grin

paxillin · 10/05/2016 11:13

It looks like I have to move beyond WHS for ds, these are all lovely. Those dragon ones are fab. I just sort of accepted his stationery wants will remain largely unmet. So did he.

Seeyounearertime · 10/05/2016 15:47

WHS isnt really a decent stationers anymore, were they ever?

get thee to Rymans, Paper chase, The Works etc.

paxillin · 10/05/2016 16:51

I know, I'm learning how insufficient they are. I'm not really into stationary myself, ds is. They do sell random writing pads and biros, enough for my own needs.

underrugsswept · 11/05/2016 09:39

Just reporting back on Shimmering Seas for Dontknow. It's quite subtle when I write 'normally' but a little more pressure on the paper and it comes out like this - lots of lovely little sparkly bits that appear as its dries.

That's a boat in case you were wondering.Grin

stealthsquiggle · 11/05/2016 10:30

Thanks for that, underswept. That ink was already on my wish list but I may have to edit the priority (birthday in less than a month, otherwise I might buy it for myself!)

JemTheAngel · 11/05/2016 11:08

I can also report on one of the glittery inks. I've got the sparkling shadows, which is grey with gold sparkle. I think it is more subtle than I had expected. You really have to tilt the paper to the light to notice it and even then it doesn't always come out, you have to shake the bottle hard before you fill the converter and then I feel it settles inside the pen anyway.

Overall, not sure I'd get another one. That said, I do have some amazing glittery gel pens from smiggle, and I think it was always going to be difficult for ink to live up to them.
