"Message invalid"

For the last couple of days I've been getting an occasional 'Message invalid' when I try to post. I thought it might be something to do with certain symbols/characters if I was quoting text from another source but even when I exclude them I'm still getting the message. Confused

I had this too on the trip advisor thread.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/03/2016 16:09

With these characters (see if they post...):

So it looks like will post, but not if there is anything between them.

MissBeaHaving · 09/03/2016 16:41

I noticed posters discussing this yesterday,
I haven't had an issue

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 09/03/2016 16:43

Scottish mummy is somehow haunting the creepy wee brackets?!

Arpege · 09/03/2016 16:45

Happening to me on the Jilly Cooper thread today too.

It's them pointy brackets wot does it

TheSilveryPussycat · 09/03/2016 16:50

I wanted to write < weeps > on the Archers thread the other day.

"Message is invalid" - felt like MN was judging what I was putting!

TheSilveryPussycat · 09/03/2016 16:51

And it just did it again - had to modify above post by adding extra space before and after brackets.

Arpege · 09/03/2016 16:54

Yes! Judging!

Message invalid = you are invalid and what you have to say is not worth the bandwidth it is going to occupy.

< cries >

KatherineMumsnet · 09/03/2016 17:44

Hi folks,

Our deepest apologies!

The brackets will be fixed by midday tomorrow - it was an overzealous security measure from tech. < hands gin >

@TheSilveryPussycat

I wanted to write < weeps > on the Archers thread the other day.

"Message is invalid" - felt like MN was judging what I was putting!

more importantly, why were you weeping on an Archers thread?
{ goes off to check }

Quogwinkle · 09/03/2016 18:23

Was just coming on here to have a bit of a moan about invalid message thingy. So it's the < pointy arrows > that are the problem? Just tried to post on the toast thread on Chat. Thought MN was objecting to my love of marmite :o

MrsHathaway · 09/03/2016 19:07

Bea - how are you doing that?!

PacificDogwod · 09/03/2016 19:14

So, do we have a solution, hm? < crossed arms, raised eyebrows>

PacificDogwod · 09/03/2016 19:14

Apparently not Grin

I will have to retrain my creepy wee bracket posting habits Shock

Scone1nSixtySeconds · 09/03/2016 19:53

Mwahahahaha.

SmellySourdough · 09/03/2016 19:57

I've had it yesterday on a telly addict thread. I tried a few times, then reworded my post, which then worked.

senua · 10/03/2016 09:01

I'm still having problems.
I tried a post this morning which contained normal brackets - like this (a) - and got 'message is invalid'.
Replaced them with curly brackets - like this {a} - and the message was accepted.

You will note that I have just typed the offending items above and it's accepting them now!Confused

senua · 10/03/2016 09:05

This is an extract from my post in Secondary Education:

She will miss out on historical methods - how to evaluate documents for bias, how to put things in context, etc - but doing RS instead would teach her some of those skills {there is a lot of 'one the one hand this, but on the other hand that'}.

It works with curly brackets but not normal ones.

00100001 · 10/03/2016 10:41

IT'S FIXED!!!

Ah Olivia, why do I weep? Have listened for decades (with brief stop after Nigel Sad, it's all just become too excruciating. Luckily thread is instituting a Klaxxon alert for Knob-Ursula-Hel-free episodes, so I'm hoping to be able to listen to the occasional one.
