Julia Long for a webchat?

Just watched Julia Long on C4 about transgender issues and how they impact on women. There has been a lot of discussion of these issues on MN recently, and Ms Long seems to have a different view to mainstream/government etc. I thought she could be an interesting MN guest?

Hello all and apols for the delay. We've had lots of different suggestions for webchats on this issue, and in fact we're waiting to hear back from the IOC about whether they will come on to talk about the new Olympics rules - we'll chase them and update you asap.

Further input from the IOC would be very interesting also. However, I think a lot of us found her perspective interesting and wanted to hear more from her. A quick look at Dr. Long's publications suggest that she would have plenty to say on the topics of female spaces, violence against women and the effects of pornography on women so I would suggest that a webchat with her would be worth pursuing irrespective of any other guests you brought in on that one specific topic.

Can we have Julia Long as well, please? Someone from the IoC isn't going to have Julia's perspective on what this actually means for women, and the wider issues of women being told that biological XY people are physically exactly the same as them, men have wombs too, etc.

I know that Julia would be happy to do this talk, so is it that Mumsnet doesn't want to invite her because they don't want to be tarred with the "transphobic" brush? (That libdem loon who once tweeted that all men should be killed, was rampaging round twitter accusing them of that - has it scared you off, Mumsnet?)

I'd like to add my voice to the request for Julia please. I so very much hope that the current climate of silencing women's voices (see the Guardian threads for evidence) or any whiff of current controversy doesn't deter you from asking her to come to talk to us.

This is such an incredibly important issue for all women and it would be beyond valuable for all of us to hear her views and perhaps have our perspectives challenged. This is an issue that isn't going to go away and the bulk of Mumsnetters are women and this stuff matters. In the coming year, laws will potentially be passed that will have massive impact on our spaces and the way we live our lives - please give us the space to discuss and debate with someone who can answer our questions and challenge our perspectives.

I'd like an update on the Julia Long webchat too please? I really think what she has to say may resonate with many mumsnetters. Plus, she seems really awfully nice.

If MNHQ decide against inviting her despite so many requests I'd appreciate a proper grownup explanation of why not.
