Site outage update

Hi everyone,

First and foremost: sorry for the loss of usual service over the last few hours.

To explain what's been going on: shortly after 10pm last night, we started receiving a large amount of spurious (i.e. automatic, rather than human) traffic. This is known in the trade as a denial of service attack: one in which a person, or organisation, deliberately floods a website with requests for pages, with the intention of overwhelming its servers and preventing bona fide users from accessing the site.

It goes without saying that we're doing everything we can to repel borders and keep the site up and running. We'll post on our social channels with any further updates (we're over here on Facebook and Twitter, if you don't follow us already), and in the meantime, thanks, as usual, for bearing with us.

IF (big if) he has hacked MN then he may be around, so changing passwords would be futile, he'd see a new one.

I have removed any personal info from my profile, and replaced my email addy with one that doesn't disclose my name.

Just keep seeing the same stuff that was there before, I can't see any of these fab tweets people are sending him! I'm crap with technology .

Why would anyone hack/attack a parenting website? What are they expecting to find? Very strange if you ask me.

You wouldn't believe the upset and trauma this has caused.....had to go to bed and talk to my husband as there was no Mumsnet.

I felt cheated and he was clearly uncomfortable with the unusual attention

I doubt anyone is going to mount Hacking 101 for you, im - but there are reasons.

This isn't a parenting website, imwithspud. That is merely the thin, glossy veneer over its true agenda, which is to incite hatred towards men.

They're so good at it, you haven't even noticed! But stop and think about it and you realise that you now hate all men - you may even be one, who knows! In the next phase, they will activate us all to start rounding men up and incarcerating them on the Isle of Wight, where they will be kept for breeding purposes. Why else would they have retired Brucie from Strictly?
