Hi everyone,

First and foremost: sorry for the loss of usual service over the last few hours.

To explain what's been going on: shortly after 10pm last night, we started receiving a large amount of spurious (i.e. automatic, rather than human) traffic. This is known in the trade as a denial of service attack: one in which a person, or organisation, deliberately floods a website with requests for pages, with the intention of overwhelming its servers and preventing bona fide users from accessing the site.

It goes without saying that we're doing everything we can to repel borders and keep the site up and running. We'll post on our social channels with any further updates (we're over here on Facebook and Twitter, if you don't follow us already), and in the meantime, thanks, as usual, for bearing with us.

Hello Mumsnet - the app on my phone and iPad crashes when I try to look at 'threads I'm on'
Do you suppose it Jeff tinkering again?

Icimoi · 13/08/2015 12:39

HoneyDragon, maybe the whole thing was orchestrated by tech to distract us from whinging about watched threads and Trending?

Atomik · 13/08/2015 13:36

Can't be that Ici becuase the Joffrey invasion appears to have caused Trending to turn back to "Most Active". Been like since yesterday.

TheTravellingLemon · 13/08/2015 13:45

Maybe that's what Jeffrey did during his visit.

Atomik · 13/08/2015 13:53

Maybe that's what Jeffrey did during his visit

Maybe.

Perhaps he has a crush on Maryz and is trying to woo her, using all his romantic hacking skillz to make the object of his affection happy ?

Forget the pic. Was going to ask MNHQ if they though Joffrey was responsible for the [ sad ] emoticon wierd stuff from a couple of weeks ago. But then decided they had enough on their plate. And forgot to remove picture.

SuperFlyHigh · 13/08/2015 16:26

MN you know I love you - but really ANOTHER password reset reminder?!

iamaboveandBeyond · 13/08/2015 16:37

I think we should all set our passwords to "password"

At least then when someone wants to fuck about "hacking" just to claim they have our passwords, they can know that Really Important Information without taking the whole bloody site offline

WitchofScots · 13/08/2015 17:39

Curtains I don't the preschool children are getting exam results next week so it can't be that.....

WitchofScots · 13/08/2015 17:39

Arkkorox · 13/08/2015 18:09

I keep being logged out....

Jeffery?

tribpot · 13/08/2015 18:33

That's not Jeffrey, that's just MN 'upgrade'.

TheReluctantCountess · 13/08/2015 20:53

I keep getting signed out too. V annoying.

TheReluctantCountess · 13/08/2015 20:54

And every time I post on a thread, it tells me it has been added to my watch list.

EBearhug · 13/08/2015 20:56

I've set my password to *
(Don't tell anyone.)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/08/2015 21:26

Grin at people not being able to tell the difference between Jeffrey's sad efforts and Tech's recent 'improvements'. A sure sign of great UX design.

Good point, Plenty, I'll be remembering that as an example of where UX perhaps did not succeed (I don't think Mumsnet uses anyone with a UX background ... surely?)

Fflightattendant · 13/08/2015 21:43

I think that's possibly more to do with Jeffery's inadequacy than anything else.
