Site outage update

Hi everyone,

First and foremost: sorry for the loss of usual service over the last few hours.

To explain what's been going on: shortly after 10pm last night, we started receiving a large amount of spurious (i.e. automatic, rather than human) traffic. This is known in the trade as a denial of service attack: one in which a person, or organisation, deliberately floods a website with requests for pages, with the intention of overwhelming its servers and preventing bona fide users from accessing the site.

It goes without saying that we're doing everything we can to repel borders and keep the site up and running. We'll post on our social channels with any further updates (we're over here on Facebook and Twitter, if you don't follow us already), and in the meantime, thanks, as usual, for bearing with us.

HoneyDragon, maybe the whole thing was orchestrated by tech to distract us from whinging about watched threads and Trending?

Can't be that Ici becuase the Joffrey invasion appears to have caused Trending to turn back to "Most Active". Been like since yesterday.

At least then when someone wants to fuck about "hacking" just to claim they have our passwords, they can know that Really Important Information without taking the whole bloody site offline

at people not being able to tell the difference between Jeffrey's sad efforts and Tech's recent 'improvements'. A sure sign of great UX design.

Good point, Plenty, I'll be remembering that as an example of where UX perhaps did not succeed (I don't think Mumsnet uses anyone with a UX background ... surely?)

I think that's possibly more to do with Jeffery's inadequacy than anything else.

I kept getting logged out too so I changed my password again! and its stopped doing it.

Been logged out and old password not accepted. Then new password not accepted. Then logged in.

I have not been asked to put in a new password but I have lost my bookmarking facility since i was logged out for me Good job i remembered what my password it. I appear to have lost my master list bugger
