Site outage update

Hi everyone,

First and foremost: sorry for the loss of usual service over the last few hours.

To explain what's been going on: shortly after 10pm last night, we started receiving a large amount of spurious (i.e. automatic, rather than human) traffic. This is known in the trade as a denial of service attack: one in which a person, or organisation, deliberately floods a website with requests for pages, with the intention of overwhelming its servers and preventing bona fide users from accessing the site.

It goes without saying that we're doing everything we can to repel borders and keep the site up and running. We'll post on our social channels with any further updates (we're over here on Facebook and Twitter, if you don't follow us already), and in the meantime, thanks, as usual, for bearing with us.

GarlicDoughballsInGlitter · 12/08/2015 13:54

Argh! Now Rebecca's post is normal again!

Pantone363 · 12/08/2015 13:54

Cats post didn't have 'She's right you know' when she first posted it

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 12/08/2015 13:55

What the actual fuck is going on?? Someone needs to track down this little wank stain and disconnect his ethernet cable.

CatsandCrumble · 12/08/2015 13:55

Nope pantone it didn't.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 12/08/2015 13:56

What did Cat's post say? WannaBe's looked odd too.

Gosh this is like Dallas all over again.

MissDexter · 12/08/2015 13:56

Is anyone else jealous that the hacker can edit posts? The amount of times I've wanted to edit mine for typos! Grin

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 12/08/2015 13:56

Faggot? As this is a UK site, I'm guessing this refers to meaty delicacy popular in the north west of England. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a massive piece of Stilton.

Thurlow · 12/08/2015 13:59

Oh, this is good. I didn't fancy doing much work today anyway

Everything ok, DadSec?

Katniramal · 12/08/2015 13:59

It was this (briefly). Weird.

Site outage update
IAmAPaleontologist · 12/08/2015 14:00

My head hurts.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 12/08/2015 14:00

I'm seeing Rebecca's post as the long one (without the UPDATE), and Cats' post quoting the update. Are we seeing different things on phones and desktops or something?

ShipShapeAhoy · 12/08/2015 14:01

No the posts keep being hacked and changed from one thing to another.

differentnameforthis · 12/08/2015 14:01

Rebecca's post changed again...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 12/08/2015 14:01

Oh now, Rebecca's post has changed again (to "my updates are better")

Pantone363 · 12/08/2015 14:01

No Rebeccas post is back to normal, Cats still has the added line

CatsandCrumble

Initially it finished with

UPDATE: I'm a massive fucking faggot who doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Now it says
CatsandCrumble

UPDATE: I'm a massive fucking faggot who doesn't know what I'm talking about.

She's right you know

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 12/08/2015 14:04

This is all a bit tiresome, really.

Pantone363 · 12/08/2015 14:07

This thread is going to eat itself we're all just going round in circles

surpriseitsme · 12/08/2015 14:08

How is this thread still here?

SarahMumsnet · 12/08/2015 14:09

Hello everyone,

(and just to be clear: this really is SarahMumsnet - pombears, Terry Wogan, etc etc)

Sorry about all this. We're doing everything we can to get to the bottom of what's going on, and will keep you updated. To reiterate: we have no evidence to suggest that your passwords have been hacked, but it never does any harm to update them, so please do do that.

It's clear from recent activity (unless RebeccaMumsnet has gone rogue on us Shock) that you're reading this thread, DadSec, so we'd like to take this opportunity to say hello . We're not sure what we've done to offend you, but if there's anything you'd like to discuss with us, do feel free to drop us a line on [email protected] - or post on the thread, of course (ideally in your own post, rather than someone else's...)

Thanks, everyone else, for your patience
Flowers MNHQ
