MN purple pop-up box - yes or no? Survey!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 13:13

I thought it might be interesting to see how many people like the purple pop-up info boxes.

Survey here

It hate them too. Voted!

ThedementedPenguin · 17/03/2015 16:08

I hate it.

I use the browser on my phone and some off them take up a third of the screen. Really pisses me off as I can't read a thread properly

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 17:09

Sadly, because it is only a free survey, on survey monkey, I am only going to get to see the first 100 votes - for which the results were 98% in favour of losing the purple pop up boxes, with 2% neutral, and no-one was in favour.

Apparently 196 people have voted, but we won't see those results unless I pay.

I'm sorry - I didn't realise this when I set up the survey.

Stratter5 · 17/03/2015 17:12

It seems to be pretty conclusive though; all those user clicks were an accident. Oops.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 17:14

I think MNHQ should do a full survey - I can't afford to spend £26 for one month, or £229 for the year (for the most basic level) to see the rest of the responses.

OP posts:
iwantavuvezela · 17/03/2015 17:15

Well I voted (after cut off), and you can count me in as NO!
I wonder if a way around it is to set up another, but same survey, and then add those figures to the first etc?
Although statistically I would say that you could easily say that the consensus is NO!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 17:17

Did it tell you you had voted after the cut-off, iwantavuvuzela?

I am so sorry I didn't realise I only got 100 votes on the free survey - I have cocked up. Sad

OP posts:
gastrognome · 17/03/2015 17:20

Add me as a no vote. It's awful. It might have felt modern and exciting in 1999. Now it's just ugly and annoying and it won't go away no matter how many times I click on the cross.

NotMrsTumble · 17/03/2015 17:21

Voted before I realised you wouldn't be able to see my no. Get rid! Unless you're mning on an actual computer, it takes up far too much of the screen, and I'm afraid I found them so irritating that I don't read them, I just click to get rid. Which defeats their purpose. All the big "events" get plenty of exposure on my fb feed, and in emails from mn.

julker · 17/03/2015 17:22

100 people with not one vote for and only 2 neutral is enough to show the general thoughts of people using the site in my opinion

Jinglebells99 · 17/03/2015 17:24

I was a get rid vote too. Particularly annoying when the purple box is over the post message box!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 17:27

I haven exported one of my posts to MNHQ, and asked them to do a full survey. This is what I said:

"Please carry out a full survey on the purple pop up boxes - my results are overwhelmingly in favour of losing them - not one single vote in favour, and two neutrals out of 100.

Please ask your members/users and act on the results."

I'll let you know what reply I get.

I agree, julker - the results from my little survey don't show any support for MNHQ's claim that people like these 'sliders'.

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/03/2015 17:28

And interestingly, no-one has come back to this thread to say they voted 'yes' after the cut-off. Hmm

I don't mind being I formed but when I close th box, IMHO that should be the end of it. Currently it appears so often it's verging on harassment!

DishwasherDogs · 17/03/2015 17:33

I voted no.
I don't even look at the box, just click to get rid of it.
I like the idea of different coloured stickies, that would be more eye catching and not as irritating as the slidey box.

It would t be so bad if it wasn't so bloody big and didn't keep popping up every 2 seconds exaggerate much

It's a no from me.

BlackNoSugar · 17/03/2015 17:47

On my tablet they take up half the screen but annoyingly I can't slide the screen far enough to the left to find the [X] to close the box. On my phone I can't even read the text in the box, but I can at least close it.

I don't think I've ever read what's in the box.

SwedishEdith · 17/03/2015 17:54

Agree about how irritating it is and, no, I never read what it says either. Just look for the x to get rid.

emwithme · 17/03/2015 18:18

I voted no. It pisses me off. Like some others have said, I go through recent threads, open up whichever ones I want to read and then (even though I've closed the purple box on the first screen) I have to close it again on "n" other screens*

*right now I have 42 tabs open of threads I want to look at.

BerylStreep · 17/03/2015 18:24

Have voted no too.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 17/03/2015 18:30

MNHQ people were annoyed about missing web chats because they were often not even on a sticky, the thread announcing them would go sliding down Active Convos - plus the stickies are the same colour as other threads. If you made the web chat thread purple, like the banner thing is, and stuck it at the top of Active convos then everyone would see it but it wouldn't get in the way.

The slider doesn't remember when you've clicked the box, or remember across devices - so my laptop/ipad/PC all need me to press each one. Please get rid.

whiskeytangofoxtrot · 17/03/2015 18:37

Cant see the fuss myself.

MN purple pop-up box - yes or no? Survey!
MrsSlocombesPussy · 17/03/2015 18:47

Too late to join the survey, but you can count me as a No. Really annoying, especially on my iPad

venusandmars · 17/03/2015 19:26

Hate, hate, hate it. On pc I can ignore it but on phone it pops up in an obtrusive way every few seconds. No I don't want to put a question to Nick Clegg. NO I REALLY don't want to put a question to Nick Clegg. And on and on until I actually start to hate Nick Clegg just for appearing on the question.
