Is there any way I can hide the new ruddy 'pin it' etc column on the left hand side?

It's driving me demented.

OP posts:
MyLittleFinger · 15/05/2014 21:53

Please get rid of it, very distracting and annoying!

Bunbaker · 15/05/2014 22:03

Is there a "Don't like" button as well?

Another vote for the get rid please group. Ad blocking it removes stuff that I want to keep on seeing, but it bugs the hell out of me with its slow creep, and its following me around.

Get rid of them, please.

I think most of us who post on here can twatter or face ache or pissterest out posts if we really want to (Why?) without an annoying reminder to do so.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 23:03

You have to right click on the speech bubbles (not the logos) and adblock gives you an option to block that element. However it blocks loads of useful things as well like discussions of the day and the preview in threads I'm on.

Toomanyworriedsonhere · 15/05/2014 23:11

I'd like to hide it, too

exexpat · 15/05/2014 23:32

While we're all on here - is there any way of blocking those annoying buttons that make the pregnant woman in the vest etc pop up if your cursor accidentally goes anywhere near them? I never, ever use any of those tabs to get to areas of the site so am happy to disable them. (I'm mostly using Safari on a mac, with adblocker)

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 16/05/2014 00:12

I went overboard with adblock and now I can't see Facebook at all Blush

Will have to figure out how to undo that bit...

ZacharyQuack · 16/05/2014 02:18

I'm on a desktop, using Chrome and I hate the new sidebar.

One of the things that originally appealed to me about Mumsnet was its clean, elegant design. All of the dangly bits and bobs are just cluttering up the site and detracting from the usability. It's too easy to click the wrong place, or have the intrusive drop down menus displaying because your mouse cursor is in the wrong position. It's messy and frustrating to use.

Please MNHQ, reconsider whether any perceived benefit of providing even more ways for people to link MN to social networking sites is actually worth the cost of ruining the original look and feel of the site.

Actually the only benefit of these new icons that I can see, is that they are a constant, intrusive reminder that threads can be linked to social media, so be careful what you post.

Seeline · 16/05/2014 08:03

Come on Mumsnet Towers - it's still there and we obviously don't want it!! Please fix it.

OldVikingDudeHidMyTubeSocks · 16/05/2014 09:09

I've decided I hate it with the same intensity that Peter Andre loves his kids.

It's just so positioned where I like to rest my hand and swipe the page to scroll down.

It's horrible because it's right in my line of sight when I'm trying to read a thread.
Read the line, eyes flick back to start of next line, "tweet", Arrgghhh

I've been trying to read the bottom half of my laptop screen only, but it's not working. Why do I have to change my computer reading habits just to avoid those stupid annoying icons?

nemno · 16/05/2014 10:01

I don't like them, please make them go away. I'm not particularly resistant to change, I don't even mind the drop down pictures everyone seems to hate but these are very annoying.

RowanMumsnet · 16/05/2014 11:31

@cozietoesie

Now that's interesting - there's no 'Pin it column' on boards which might be considered to be 'more sensitive' topics - so it looks as if someone has gone through the boards deciding which shall be linked and which shall not. Perhaps someone will share the rationale?

We have a list of particularly sensitive topics that don't get the social media buttons, yes. Relationships, bereavement, OTBT, miscarriage, a few more I think.

RowanMumsnet · 16/05/2014 11:37

Can we ask, those of you who say it's interfering with scrolling and so on - how are you using MN? (tablet?)

Cinnamoncookie · 16/05/2014 11:42

I find it annoying too. Too much itty bitty rubbish hanging around, and as pp have said, MNers generally don't seem to be a demographic to whom the option to retweet, fb share, pin something immediately etc etc has any appeal. (Sweeping generalisation)

Fideline987654321 · 16/05/2014 11:48

Just adding my vote to the consensus that it is annoying.

Selks · 16/05/2014 11:51

I'm running adblocker plus on google chrome and it's not showing for me (nor are any of the annoying ads, thankfully)

MNHQ - I know you need revenue, but you should think really carefully about not using too many ads, scrolling things, animated things or annoying banners etc on this site because one of the joys of it always was the clutter free, enjoyable to look at pages, would be a massive shame to lose that and would deter many people.
