Is there any way I can hide the new ruddy 'pin it' etc column on the left hand side?

It's driving me demented.

I have had to magnify this page to get rid of them.

Please MN get rid of these very irritating icons.

Fairenuff · 15/05/2014 19:15

Please, please, please remove it or give an opportunity to hide or opt out, it is very annoying.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/05/2014 19:17

Its on the mobile site?

I can't see it and I have no adblockers...

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 19:19

I thought this was just going to be on Classics and not on other boards? When I started a thread a few weeks ago I was told this would be the case.

I'm not keen on the way it scrolls with the page. I hate that kind of thing on websites, makes me feel weirdly claustrophobic.

I am tempted to adblock it and I don't usually run adblock software on mumsnet.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 19:21

It could go from "threads I'm on" couldn't it?! No point in social media-ing that page since it's unique for every user!

I would really not object to this being on one or two boards, say classics and chat. But not on most of them.

Or make it stay at the top.

Bunbaker · 15/05/2014 19:23

I run adblock and it isn't blocking them.

I am going to sound like a broken record.

Please get rid of them

Bunbaker · 15/05/2014 19:24

I have managed to block them all except for the Pin it one.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 19:29

Well, no, it's not an ad. But you can set adblocker to block any image you like. I do it for disturbing ones! Unfortunately trying to block it also blocks loads of other stuff like the article categories at the top.

exexpat · 15/05/2014 19:31

I wish you'd get rid of it too. I keep accidentally clicking on the 'pin it' thing when scrolling down, so then have to click back from the pin it website.

Does anyone actually use those buttons anyway? Nearly every thread I have been on, the like/tweet/g+/pin it tallies have all been zero.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 19:31

Also reviews, etc. Actually my MN looks much cleaner now Blush

cozietoesie · 15/05/2014 19:41

Someone's idea of a new revenue stream is my guess? (Suitably tailored under trial to avoid accusations of insensitivity of course.)

What browsers are you all using? I still can't see it, even on the desktop site

cozietoesie · 15/05/2014 19:51

FF for most of my browsing.

OP posts:
StandsOnGoldenSands · 15/05/2014 19:54

Can anyone advise, if I press one of the buttons by accident, does it actually Tweet or Facebook or whatever ? Or is there some intermediate stage where you have to press 'post' first? I don't want to risk it by trying it ...
If it really does just post it onto your Twitter or Facebook or whatever you're logged into at the time, without an opportunity to stop it beforehand, then I'm afraid I think I will be browsing MN while logged out only. The risk of accidentally tweeting or FBing something I don't want to is just too great.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2014 19:57

I don't know, I'm afraid. Someone else can experiment if they wish.

Please can you ditch this ?

Any site that has these "tracking" sidebars gives me vertigo.
And it's crap and it's making my browser run slowly.

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 15/05/2014 20:20

I'm on a kindle tablet and the new buttons are a HUGE pita. They take up the first word or so of all posts making it impossible to read them.

exexpat · 15/05/2014 20:21

Standsongoldensands - yes, there is an intermediate stage, which in the case of the 'tweet' button would involve deleting part of the text of the suggested tweet (as well as pressing 'tweet' again), because it is over twitter's 140-character limit Hmm - so even more annoying.

StandsOnGoldenSands · 15/05/2014 20:27

Thanks Quietbatperson and Exexpat - that makes me marginally less worried about its presence.
Still weird though. I agree with everyone else saying please turn it into a static bar at the top of the page or summat.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2014 20:27

Stands I don't think so because it's a facebook "like" rather than "share".

Twitter always gives you an option to edit IIRC. So does Pinterest. FB "share" option usually gives an option to edit.

I don't use google plus.

Munchmallow · 15/05/2014 20:56

I've chosen to hide it and it wasn't there for a while but it's appeared again. I hate it, please make it go away.

I'm on pc, firefox with adblocker.

Munchmallow · 15/05/2014 21:49

I've managed to block all of it except 'tweet this' which is still following me down the page. Argh!

squoosh · 15/05/2014 21:50

SO ANNOYING.
