A dedicated vaping topic?

magimedi · 12/04/2014 15:47

Please, MNHQ, could we have one? I'm sure you are aware of how many more people vape nowadays & what a great way it is to give up smoking.

In six months we have had five threads about vaping see here & they are filling up faster & faster. More & more people aretaking up vaping as opposed to smoking & are wanting information.

Starting vaping can be a bit complicated & we could separate the information within a thread so that it was far more easily available for everyone to use.

Hope you'll agree & we can have our dedicated "Nest of Vapers"!

hahaha this is turning into another vaping thread Grin

Go on, mnhq, give us a topic to call our own, it will stop us raving about it all over the boards actually it probably won't Gwan gwan gwan gwan.

I stopped smoking by accident six months before my quit date as soon as I got the kit to play with (smoking since age 12, now 45).

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 18/04/2014 11:34

You all sound brilliant. Well done. I am going to link. My friend is asthmatic and actually wants to quit but doesn't think she can. She loves and loathes it in equal measure. Watching her smoke through another chest infection is awful.

BrianTheMole · 18/04/2014 13:31

I'm asthmatic too Rax. I could never go anywhere without my inhalers. These days, I'm not even sure where they are!

Jux · 18/04/2014 19:07

Speaking of vaping/asthma, I was in a head shop yesterday looking at their vaping stuff, and there in the case along with standard batteries, was a thing which looked just like a nebuliser only a bit bigger.

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 23:14

Nenny that's twice I've seen you complain about this topic being high up in AIBU. Personally, I don't read threads that I'm not interested in, I don't get the big deal. I can't comprehend the fact you get cross seeing the thread, and then take the time and energy to complain, when you could save all that time hiding or simply even ignoring it.

I'm sick of reading about in laws who fart, but I don't then click on the bloody thread.

Bimpety bimp Smile

Morning MNHQ, will the Topics Consideration Committee be convening any time soon?

whatadrama · 22/04/2014 12:01

Still silence from MNHQ Sad

BrianTheMole · 22/04/2014 17:13
Sad
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2014 20:15

pleeeeeze pretty pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzze

whatadrama · 23/04/2014 12:44

Has anyone heard anything yet?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2014 08:41

We're well over half way through our fifth thread now. I never mind reposting the same information for new vapers but if we had our own topic we wouldn't have to, we could just link to shorter threads with the relevant info. It would make it so much easier for newcomers to find what they were looking for.

magimedi · 24/04/2014 09:26

We are getting through threads at a great speed - taking up valuable space Grin

I wonder if there are any vapers at MNHQ?

Morning! Sorry for the silence can we still get away with blaming Heartbleed

OK we're good to go with a 'Stop Smoking' topic and you can have your Nest of Vapers threads within that - does that sound OK?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/04/2014 09:31

Woo!

Thank you!

:o

whatadrama · 24/04/2014 09:31

Whooooooo Hoooooooo! Grin

Thanks Rowan

member · 24/04/2014 09:33

I agree it would be useful to have all the key information for starting in one place. Found the threads here to be really helpful when considering switching to vaping on Saturday & have now been a vaper for 44 & a half hours.

member · 24/04/2014 09:34

Oops, cross post - yippee! Thanks Grin

magimedi · 24/04/2014 09:34

Can I ask if anyone has given up smoking but returned to vaping? The reason I ask is because I gave up smoking some years ago for fitness reasons, but have always missed nicotine. I'm tempted to try vaping as it appears to be nicotine without other nasties.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2014 09:40

Thank you! FlowersCakeWineBrewDragon

Oh look we have a Dragon looks like a piece of intestine

magimedi · 24/04/2014 09:41

Will it be in General Health?

OP posts:
Raia · 24/04/2014 09:58

Brilliant, thank you! Thanks

RowanMumsnet · 24/04/2014 10:08

@magimedi

Will it be in General Health?

Just chewing this over now - wondering whether vaping threads in General Health will lead to controversy about whether vaping is actually healthier than smoking (in that there hasn't been much research into the health effects of vaping, we think?)

But General Health does seem the obvious place to put a Stop Smoking topic

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2014 10:18

in that there hasn't been much research into the health effects of vaping, we think?

There has been rather a lot Rowan.

Here we go ...

systematic review of research to date

Long but easy to read

Royal College of Physicians guidance - Despite the controversies, it is clear that e-cigarettes are far less hazardous than is tobacco. With more than a million UK smokers using them to help to cut down or quit smoking, they are proving to be valuable harm reduction and cessation products and could make a substantial contribution to reducing the burden of death, disability and poverty currently caused by tobacco smoking. Health professionals should embrace this potential by encouraging smokers, particularly those disinclined to use licensed nicotine replacement therapies, to try them, and, when possible, to do so in conjunction with existing NHS smoking cessation and harm reduction support. E-cigarettes will save lives, and we should support their use.

I'm not that bothered whether we're in General Health or not if you're still worried though, just point us in the right direction once you've decided.

Thanks again Flowers

RowanMumsnet · 24/04/2014 10:33

ooh thank you Pube (may we call you Pube?)
