Mumsnet as women only?

Ahem. Wig&Robe, anyone?

noddyholder · 04/08/2006 17:57

I like your style! And unneccessary sounds hilarious in this context

handlemecarefully · 04/08/2006 17:59

I have seen far worse graphic and sexually explicit threads on mumsnet (which generally don't offend me, but make me think 'how puerile') so really don't understand all the fuss

DumbledoresGirl · 04/08/2006 18:00

Wow, I am glad others feel the same way as me. I don't mind men being here, and Idon't even mind a men's section, but for some reason I have come over all prudish when I see threads simply discussing women's norks etc. It is very off-putting! i know I don't have to read the threads (and apart from the norks one and one revolting one when men (or pretend men) went on about farting, I haven't) but even so, it does seem to lower the tone.

Arent there more thread titles here or an overtly sexual nature than anywhere else on MN? what does that say about the men?

most of the stuff is by women though isn't it

women being silly being pretend men or just their normal mn silly sleves?

zippitippitoes · 04/08/2006 18:06

perhaps we just need a hot sex topic so that the poor men don't get blamed

fullmoonfiend · 04/08/2006 18:07

There are not many dads on MN, and there are not likely to be any more if this kind of blackballing (oh sorry,) goes on. The boobs thread was, IMO, just HD larking around with a spoofy thread in a kind of 'ho hum. there's a men's room. Best post something that stereotypically, men would respond to.'
I can't believe the volume of shock horror it provoked.
There really do seem to be some terrible double standards on this site. How many willy threads have there been?
Yes, it is called Mumsnet, but as others have pointed out 'by parents, for parents'.
And there have been several threads I recall with people asking for a blokes' perspective on something, which our lovely dads have provided.
If you don't like it, keep out. Same goes for all subjects/threads on MN.

DumbledoresGirl · 04/08/2006 18:09

Zippi - wouldn't that leave the men with nothing to talk about though?

Enid · 04/08/2006 18:10

yes the mens threads are sadly predictable

glad they are corralled in one easily avoidable area though

I keep saying this and people keep ignoring it, but I really didn't see any shock horror about it at all. I think I was one of the posters that was speaking most strongly about it and the worst I could say was that is made me feel cringy. I think people have blown a few people saying "oh, yuk, really, did you have to say that?" into a "shock horror outrage" sort of response which, while it would have been interesting, was actually not what happened.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 04/08/2006 18:36

I never look, unless something comes up in active convos. Despite my not feeling remotely offended by HD I think having a "men's room" listed under "in the club" (or whatever it is) is bound to generate a certain kind of post - which even if intended light-heartedly - might offend. I think it's excellent to have dads around on mn - we do after all share this parenting lark. (to varying degrees) And I acknowledge that there may be somethings about parenting that are very dad specific - imho it would be much better to do away with "the men's room" and have something like "Dads' stuff" maybe under parenting.

nightowl · 04/08/2006 20:07

oh honestly, some times the men just cant win! where else are they supposed to go? stick to gaming sites or look at porn so we can all complain that they have no time for us and the kids?

he made one comment! that was all! (and like WE never mention male bits on here at all do we?)

wheresmyfroggy · 04/08/2006 20:26

Nice to know the men who post here are so highly thought of.

fullmoonfiend · 05/08/2006 13:42

I like men - I couldn't have had my boys without one!
