Yay

viperslast · 12/09/2013 20:00

Yes but with this you can use different names every post making sock puppetry a piece of proverbial. Whereas before (on the mobile site) you had to switch to desktop, log in, change name, log changes, switch back....

Only the nickname posted by the OP is highlighted. If you name change in the middle of the thread no one will know.

As SPB said, it just makes it easier to name change for a short time. Nothing has been added that wasn't there before.

I assume it will roll out across the entire site soon.

viperslast · 12/09/2013 20:01

Ah so if only op posts are highlighted then the op can join in the fun also mess about

No nothing more than a short cut, I just think the short cut enables naughtiness more than anything else?

OP posts:
Portofino · 12/09/2013 20:05

I can't think of any good reason why you would name change mid thread.

Portofino · 12/09/2013 20:06

Well maybe for comedic purpose, but it is an invitation for sock puppets. Many trolls have a few ids which they use to build up an innocent posting history.

Tee2072 · 12/09/2013 20:06

It's not so you can name change mid thread.

It's so you can decide which name to use for a thread. So if you're reading something and you want to post something delicate you can use your 'I'm being delicate' name change.

I agree porto. Tee if that's the case why does it only last one post? Surely it should "stick" for that thread?

OP posts:
ICod · 12/09/2013 20:12

Hello there

viperslast · 12/09/2013 20:14

Travlin, isn't that a bad thing though? If posters can leave behind their usual reasonable persona in order to be snippy (or confrontational or just plain nasty) with minimal effort?

Tee2072 · 12/09/2013 20:52

I haven't tried it. Does it not stick? Then I have no idea.

viperslast · 12/09/2013 21:06

No only lasts one post. Confused

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 12/09/2013 21:07

Just one post? Oh blimey, you could get yourself into all sorts of problems.

BOF · 12/09/2013 21:08

That truly is a socky's charter. But I love it when they fuck up.

viperslast · 12/09/2013 21:10

Ucm being the classic cautionary tale!

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 12/09/2013 21:10

Okay, then it's a bad idea. I agree.

Then again, they may still be working on it since it's not across all the sites yet.

viperslast · 13/09/2013 09:49

Go on HQ tell us what it's for Grin
