Reporting posts: you now have options (in case you haven't noticed)

Hello.

Just thought it might be worth letting you all know that, when you want to alert us at MNHQ to a post (or a thread) and you hit the Report link, you now get two options: you can either 'Report as spam' or 'Report for other reasons'.

We've introduced this to make life a little easier for us and, more importantly, to try to make sure we can quickly see the Reports that might need dealing with more urgently than others.

Do please try to take the time to select the right option when you're reporting. It would really help.

And if you have any other questions about Reports and how the whole system works, do please post them here. Xmas Smile

when we have the Zombie invasion, can someone at MNHQ be responsible for bringing the server with them? y'know, so we don't lose MN in the aftermath.

LtXmasEve · 18/12/2012 16:21

Oh Hide Poster - how much would I LOVE that right now. I'm turning into an argumentative old cow just lately - and it could ALL be solved so very easily.

In fact I'd swap a Hide Poster button for a gift wrapped Darryl Dixon right about now although I haven't quite reached Oliver Queen levels yet

What about a "Reported for goading more than a professional goader at the 2012 Goading Convention" button?

ApplesinmyPocket · 18/12/2012 16:26

Am I the only one furiously clicking on theads hoping to see something I can report, just so I can select the right option?

I really, really don't want a Hide Poster option. Seems to me it would be a bit weird if we were holding all these long conversations and some of those present are oblivious to some of what's going on and none of us is aware that half of us are in the dark. I think MN would feel less like 'a group of people experiencing something all together', and that illusion of intimacy and friendship, something it currently achieves remarkably well despite its size, would start to slip away.

Gah, I'm not explaining this very well. Xmas Grin

Yes, I'm with you Apples. Tbh, not that many people annoy me (certainly not enough to hide them) and it would make the boards v disjointed, if some people were responding to a hidden person.

HaveYourselfAMardyLittleXmas · 18/12/2012 16:34

Also I'd probably get hidden by others. I want to be heard!

HoratiaLovesBabyJesus · 18/12/2012 19:26

Having adminned on a forum which had a "hide user" function, I'm firmly against. Pain in the arse, and only useful for hiding the twinkliest tickers!!

Djembe · 18/12/2012 20:26

All good, but please add these to the iPhone app - I have reported spam several times from the app and received a 'cheers' email from MNHQ suggesting I 'report as spam' which I can't actually do as I always access MN via the app.

CaHoHoHootz · 18/12/2012 22:49

If you have a hide poster option but you don't want to risk disjointed threads then it is simply.....don't hide any posters. It would nice to have the choice.

????. I really don't understand why it would be a problem.

confuddledDOTcom · 19/12/2012 15:16

one forum I use doesn't remove the poster like it would on Facebook, it shrinks their post to a bar you can open up if you wish knowing that it's someone you hid (bit like on YouTube when someone gets really low scores).

@Djembe

All good, but please add these to the iPhone app - I have reported spam several times from the app and received a 'cheers' email from MNHQ suggesting I 'report as spam' which I can't actually do as I always access MN via the app.

That's not long winded at all, and it's a good point. As our shiny new spam button a new feature, it wasn't included in the original brief for the app, which was written way back when. In all honestly, the report spam button probably won't be appear on the app for a while, as it'll be quite a while before we do a major redesign. Sorry about that.

We love all reports of delicious spam, so even if you're on the app, can you still report the normal way and just put "SPAM!" in the message?

One final thing, would you mind forwarding the mail form us suggesting that you report it as spam to us at [email protected]? It doesn't something we'd say, perhaps there had been to much gin that day.

Now that ^ is a longwind post!
