Reporting posts: you now have options (in case you haven't noticed)

Hello.

Just thought it might be worth letting you all know that, when you want to alert us at MNHQ to a post (or a thread) and you hit the Report link, you now get two options: you can either 'Report as spam' or 'Report for other reasons'.

We've introduced this to make life a little easier for us and, more importantly, to try to make sure we can quickly see the Reports that might need dealing with more urgently than others.

Do please try to take the time to select the right option when you're reporting. It would really help.

And if you have any other questions about Reports and how the whole system works, do please post them here. Xmas Smile

Can I suggest a third option?

Admin help wanted.

Well then you let us tick all the boxes and it gets a huge score alerting you to the fact you need to grab all available gin and head to the air raid shelter until the site has imploded...

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet · 17/12/2012 14:54

@BOFingSanta

Can I be awkward and ask about the reasons you put up for thread deletion too, please? There was one a couple of nights ago where the message put up was that it was deleted for "descending into trollhunting", when it was a troll invasion from the Honda boards and they had linked back to their own site themselves to demonstrate the fact. After reporting, being good Halo, a few people rightly ticked them off for being crass enough to invent a sexual abuse scenario for lulz. That isn't troll-hunting! But the thread deleted message made MNers look like the norties.

[lipwobble][tentative footstamp][imminent sending to bedroom]

Not awkward at all, BOFingSanta. Sounds like we put up the wrong reason for deletion on that thread. I'll have a chat with the weekend crew and see what happened.

I've always wondered whether you have automatic incident logging set up. I'm assuming that since all reports have an incident number attached that you do have a management system, but I've always wondered how much is automated to save you time.

I've set up commercial systems so if someone emails from a registered email address, it automatically logs it into the system and sends them a "Thanks for your email we will look into it" response. If someone replies to an email where the incident number is in the subject line, it automatically attaches it to the record and sends a notification to whoever the incident is assigned to to let them know there's an update. If they're using the web front-end and select certain categories then it logs it into the system as different priorities - a bit like your Spam / Bun fight distinction.

I keep seeing that you're snowed under with emails and the like, so was curious as to how you manage them. I shall now crawl back to where I came from.

Yep. Our system is not dissimilar to your one, Keema - but we don't like to automate replies too much. Cos we like you all and like to reply personally and all

Thanks for answering my nerdy question. I've never found the right time to ask before Xmas Grin, and I do appreciate the personal replies.

MerryLindor · 17/12/2012 16:52

Can we have a 'This poster is pissing me off' option?

Pleeeeease

BOFingSanta · 17/12/2012 17:09

I've just gone back to a survey thread about children's clothes which was deleted for turning into a bunfight. How on earth did THAT happen? Xmas Confused

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 17/12/2012 17:28

Oh please BOF, you've been here forever. I've seen a 'what shall we have for dinner' thread turn into a bun fight!

And I don't think anyone was going to eat the buns...

BOFingSanta · 17/12/2012 17:40
Xmas Grin
TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 17/12/2012 17:44

ML if we could have that, they'd let us have a hide poster option!

badgerparade · 17/12/2012 18:09

Spam - that's rather common!. Should have been a naice ham option surely Xmas Grin

TheHillsAreAliveWithMrsWembley · 17/12/2012 19:04

I want to see a naice hamfight!

I envisage people batting away at each other with their hands outstretched and eyes closed, the way you do when you aren't really good at fighting. That and a few moments of name-calling, such as 'Go away, Sun-reader' or 'You're a Greg's pasty eater, you are'...

badgerparade · 17/12/2012 19:05

Yeah,fruit shoots at dawn Smile

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 17/12/2012 20:17

Oooh yes, a this poster is pissing me off button would be great, but I suspect I'd over use it. Xmas Grin

CaHoHoHootz · 17/12/2012 21:30

Now all that we need is a hide poster option

< nag, nag, nag>

ShrekTh3Halls · 17/12/2012 23:02

pmsl at naice ham instead of spam Grin

yes hide poster option only then we'd forget how condescending and annoying they actually are and convos won't make sense
oooh i wish....

EdnaScoggins · 17/12/2012 23:47

Is it possible to have a "Retract that report, I was utterly drunk at the time" function?

And are there any spam buns left? I don't want a naice ham one.

HaveYourselfAMardyLittleXmas · 18/12/2012 09:44

Can we have a "this is not an AIBU" button pretty please.

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels · 18/12/2012 10:10

Oh, how I long for hide poster...

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 18/12/2012 10:13

Ahh yes, hide poster.

I'd even get a warm fuzzy feeling from knowing that other people may hide me, as it means I would have got up their nose enough to do it. Xmas Grin

BlameItOnTheChoirOfAngels · 18/12/2012 10:53
OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 18/12/2012 11:22

Will the app be updated to include this, too?

catkind · 18/12/2012 12:01

Grin at this thread, specially the air raid shelter.
