An Edit Button

Please could we have an edit button for our posts in talk. It would be so much better to be able to edit out spelling mistakes and punctuation errors.

OP posts:

She's soooo tempted Xmas Grin

ScarahStratton · 28/10/2012 19:34

Bollocks, it's not Christmas yet is it.

[hgrin]

Inneedofbrandy · 28/10/2012 19:34

I think it's a great idea, sometimes you post and then realise that it doesn't make sense or you left half of what you thought you typed.

15 minutes would be perfect.

SuePurblybilt · 28/10/2012 19:35

Tis in my mind Strattpot. Holidaysarecoming.

MummifiedBonkeyMollocks · 28/10/2012 19:40

Noooooooooooo to a edit button!

Bonkey has spoken!

Grin
IamtheZombie · 28/10/2012 19:40

Zombie has known an edit facility to be misused on a site she used to use. She can see an argument for a 15 minute window of opportunity to correct typos but the ability to completely change a post hours later can be abused.

OliviaMumsnet · 28/10/2012 19:44

@Whooooosualsuspect

Shes's had enough of us all. Grin

True - 15 mins is a long time on a fast moving thread. Maybe a couple of minutes?

Can you preview on the phone app? I never log in via desktop so I only really see the phone version, which doesn't offer you preview....or am I wrong?

Sparklingbroomstick · 28/10/2012 20:20

At the risk of being a creepy bum lick I use the Preview Message quite a lot. Especially to test if a link works. Smile

MummifiedBonkeyMollocks · 28/10/2012 20:21

I cba to use the preview anymore - hence the state of my typing some days! Grin

Whooooosualsuspect · 28/10/2012 20:22

I do test my links in preview.

But I never preview any other post

ZombTEE · 28/10/2012 20:22

Suck up, Sparkling. [hgrin]

I usually preview when I'm on a mobile device as it's harder to scroll through and edit.

Even 5 minutes editing time would be cool.

But most people just put another message to correct any mistakes on a previous one. Works fine. Editing not needed.

pictish · 28/10/2012 20:30

Oh yes please to an edit button. Another forum I use allows editing up to one hour after the initial post has been posted. Perfect!

Startailoforangeandgold · 28/10/2012 20:34

I post garbage because it's really hard to scroll on an iPod and I'm dyslexic. I'd love an edit button!

RowanMumsnet · 28/10/2012 20:39

@LizLemon030

i had a problem where i was outed once and i asked mn to delete all my posts and they didn't. i was emailing the staff and they were very pleasant, one even rang me but they did not offer to delete all my posts. i asked. they said it would cause confusion. however, other mumsnetters have managed to persuade mn to do this, so I felt quite cross. There is an obvious hierarchy.

Hello - this doesn't sound like us - do feel free to email us ([email protected]) with more details and we will try to find out what happened for you.

LizLemon030 · 28/10/2012 21:09

No, I'm not going to get into a private correspondence over it. I will just say it on the public board again. I was outed. Two and a half years ago roughly. I pleaded with mumsnet to delete all my posts and I was given the official party line that it would be too confusing to have threads with posts missing. Yet I knew that mn had obliged Cod and removed all of her posts. So it was frustrating. I cringed thinking that the person who'd outed me could have read all of MY posts.

It was Olivia who rang/emailed me, and she was unfailingly polite and very pleasant but intransigent on the matter. My posts would not be deleted. I asked a number of times. There could have been no doubt that that is what I wanted.

It was a long time ago now and I cover my own arse now by name changing every fortnight or so. I would never expose myself now by leaving such a trail that I had no control over, that I could never delete. I post on other sites but there are none where I have such little control over what I've posted after I press submit. All other fora the posters have some control over their footprint on the internet.

ZombTEE · 28/10/2012 21:10

Then why post here at all? Not trying to be mean or start an argument, genuinely curious why you would continue to post here if it makes you so unhappy?

LizLemon030 · 28/10/2012 21:15

I post here for the same reasons any other poster does. It doesn't make me unhappy and I never said that it did. That is a bit of a leap you've made there. I like the wit, wisdom, support of the majority of the other posters, and I've had a lot of support over something traumatic that happened five years ago. But I am cautious about leaving a trail of posts that can be connected back to me. I learnt the hard way. ONe person can out you or even just identify you and you have no control over that on mumsnet.

ZombieArmsDragOnTheFloor · 28/10/2012 21:17

If you are worried about spelling mistakes, use the preview. Absolutley no need for an edit button at all.

Whooooosualsuspect · 28/10/2012 21:17

You know that when you sign up though. You have the choice about what you post on MN.
