Coo-eeh! Come tell us what you think of the New (hopefully much better) Mumsnet Local

Hello. We've been aware for a while now that MN Local isn't all it could be and we've been beavering away for several months now to make it much, much better.

And today's the Grand Unveiling of the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing (well, OK, not quite singing and dancing just yet) Mumsnet Local

We've reorganised the Local sites a bit (they were a bit random, geographically speaking, before). And, if you go to your nearest Mumsnet Local site, you'll see there's much more to it and it's much easier to find your way about. There are loads more categories for listings and space for reviews, and you'll find nearly new inside an expanded Classifieds section - which should make your Mumsnet Local an altogether more helpful place to hang out. Don't worry, we haven't lost the talk threads from old Local. They'll be reappearing in the new sites very soon.

Some Mumsnet Local sites are still a bit light on listings and info (we're working on that right now) but, if you'd like a look at what we're hoping all Mumsnet Locals will look like pretty darn soon, do have a butcher's at Bath. If you want to share something with other Mumsnetters on any of the sites, just click on Add a Listing (the pink button on the right just under the navigation bar).

Sites that are not far behind include Bedford, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bolton & Bury, Manchester & Trafford, Bournemouth & Poole, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Exeter, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, and in London? Barnet, Lambeth, Hackney, Haringey, Hillingdon, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Waltham Forest boroughs.

And we're hoping all the other Local sites, including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, will be hot on their tails. We're looking to entice people to look after these sites, but more on that soon.

We've designed an easy-to-use Meet Ups page. If you want to volunteer to organise a regular meet-up in your area, just email [email protected] . There are more bits and pieces and snazzy new features to come, too. Once --Tech's had a bit of a lie down

We do hope you like what you see. Do let us know what you think - as ever, all feedback is most welcome.

Ahha I think I was going mad before I spotted this sticky. Looks good. Very non-glary and easy to navigate.

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 13:13

Sorry, it was from Emma though. I think...

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:13

@TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

Those addresses both bring back this again:

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 53 at column 26: error parsing attribute name

Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

Mumsnet Discussions var wl10374camp = ""; var wl10375camp = "";

Did you perhaps put www at the beginning?

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 13:13

Apart from the fact that there is no local site available for Glasgow. It doesn't allow the clickthrough.

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:14

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Ok gone to localsite/glasgow

Icky green menu pops up.

If I click on any of the categories (eg softplay) they all say "classes in Richmond upon thames" and list the 4* venue hotel....

Are you looking at local.mumsnet.com/glasgow/soft-play ?

The local.mumsnet.com/glasgow takes me to the mumsnet board with local glasgow. Not a local page, just the normal MN talk board, so there's no navigation to get around the local page ifyswim.

winterland · 17/10/2012 13:18

I am only getting new feature too, and when i click on the map, the area comes up in a speech box but i cant click on it? and I also cant type in the search box?

Really? Can't you see any nice pics or anything?

Hi Tee, you're on my master list. I'll pm you later with more details?

Nothing, just the normal talk board layout if I google search it.

If i try and go there directly (ie typing in www.local.mumsnet.com/glasgow) it takes me to server not found.

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 13:23

There we go... I'm in Glasgow now.

Search box doesn't work all going to be fine. Go to the taskbar at the top and add /glasgow to the address and it'll take you to our page.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/10/2012 13:24

emmamnhq Yes on local.mumsnet.com/glasgow/soft-play

It has mn local Glasgow logo at top, then search box, then classes in Richmond on Thames, then filter 1,2,3,4 then venue hotel, then the test ads.

Ah. It's the www that messed things up.

The new local doesn't need a www.

It's just local.mumsnet.com/whatever.

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 13:25

How do you set this as your default local page? That doesn't work. I thought it would maybe through profiling but the profile button doesn't work.

The meetups bit looks good. In fact all of the subcategories are good and seem interesting.

mrscumberbatch · 17/10/2012 13:26

Ooh I don't like the local nickname thing. Confusing. I'd rather have the same nickname throughout.

undertheduvet · 17/10/2012 13:27

Do you want people to add listings on their local sites or are the old listings being moved across?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:29

Yes, please do add listings!

The old ones should be being moved across, too - but the more, the merrier.

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 13:30

Thanks Emma!

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:32

Sorry about that. It's there to give people some protection from being 'busted' in RL.

So, if you've posted all over the main Talk boards about your horrible MIL and your revolting neighbours and how much you hate your child's school, no one can work out who you are and hunt you down when you post on Local.

You could be mrscumberbatchy on Local or summat, if you like, though? ie near enough to be almost the same?

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:33

@Pascha

It looks fab HQ

I am especially happy to see the shiny new Friendship Bench in meet ups, thank you so much.
