Coo-eeh! Come tell us what you think of the New (hopefully much better) Mumsnet Local

Hello. We've been aware for a while now that MN Local isn't all it could be and we've been beavering away for several months now to make it much, much better.

And today's the Grand Unveiling of the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing (well, OK, not quite singing and dancing just yet) Mumsnet Local

We've reorganised the Local sites a bit (they were a bit random, geographically speaking, before). And, if you go to your nearest Mumsnet Local site, you'll see there's much more to it and it's much easier to find your way about. There are loads more categories for listings and space for reviews, and you'll find nearly new inside an expanded Classifieds section - which should make your Mumsnet Local an altogether more helpful place to hang out. Don't worry, we haven't lost the talk threads from old Local. They'll be reappearing in the new sites very soon.

Some Mumsnet Local sites are still a bit light on listings and info (we're working on that right now) but, if you'd like a look at what we're hoping all Mumsnet Locals will look like pretty darn soon, do have a butcher's at Bath. If you want to share something with other Mumsnetters on any of the sites, just click on Add a Listing (the pink button on the right just under the navigation bar).

Sites that are not far behind include Bedford, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bolton & Bury, Manchester & Trafford, Bournemouth & Poole, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Exeter, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, and in London? Barnet, Lambeth, Hackney, Haringey, Hillingdon, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Waltham Forest boroughs.

And we're hoping all the other Local sites, including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, will be hot on their tails. We're looking to entice people to look after these sites, but more on that soon.

We've designed an easy-to-use Meet Ups page. If you want to volunteer to organise a regular meet-up in your area, just email [email protected] . There are more bits and pieces and snazzy new features to come, too. Once --Tech's had a bit of a lie down

We do hope you like what you see. Do let us know what you think - as ever, all feedback is most welcome.

Ok, so it's working on my phone from the links above but when I try to get there from PC MN home page, all I'm getting is script.

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 17/10/2012 12:53

I'm on mobile site. But if i click the html link i get a proper page but the sliding map is a nuisance on a touchscreen phone

Pascha · 17/10/2012 12:53

Oh I can get it if I type the URL manually in a new tab. Just can't link to it from anywhere.

OK, so there is a wee problem with the map not showing all the Local

We are fixing it.

In the meantime, you should be able to find your Local by going to local.mumsnet.com/YourCountyorTown...

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 12:55

I'm not getting past the map. I click on NI and a little box pops up that says, helpfully Hmm, Northern Ireland but I can't get past that.

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, are the Tsarinas going to get a manual or something? Grin

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 12:56

Also, everything I click on says 'this feature coming soon'...

Pascha · 17/10/2012 12:57

Are you a Tsarina, ZombTEE. Did you get EmmaMumsnet's recent mail?

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 12:58

Okay, got to my local using your 'add your town/county' URL, Helen.

It looks so much better! Need to have a rest but I will be playing with it later!

ZombTEE · 17/10/2012 12:59

Yes, I am, helen. I got the one months ago asking if I still wanted to be a Tsarina but nothing since then.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:00

Months and months? Or a few weeks' ago? Was it from EmmaMumsnet?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/10/2012 13:00

Ok gone to localsite/glasgow

Icky green menu pops up.

If I click on any of the categories (eg softplay) they all say "classes in Richmond upon thames" and list the 4* venue hotel....

Ah! We'll take a look at that one

Thanks for pointing it out.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:02

@TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

Confused I just tried the local.mumsnet.com/ method and got a "500 Servlet Exception" message.

Which town/county were you trying to get?

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:03

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Hello, I am confused (and using mobile site)

If I type Glasgow I to the search box and search nothing happens.

If I click on Glasgow on the map it pops up a wee box. If I click on the box/the word Glasgow within the box nothing happens.

Am I totally thick?

Tech are fixing the map now. And then they'll get on to the Search box. Blush

Poor, poor Emma ((passes gin))

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:06

@TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

Chichester or Brighton - I got the same message for both.

Ok, so Brighton is local.mumsnet.com/brighton-hove

For Chichester, try local.mumsnet.com/west-sussex

SoupDragon · 17/10/2012 13:07

All I get is "new feature coming soon" if I click anything other than the map.

Try clicking the bluey/green tabs instead?

It was the one asking if we wanted to remain as Tsarinas. So maybe weeks?

Nothing since then.

Hackney site up and running and looking very pretty indeed but as others have said its not populated by anything, but if its used properly then it should be really good and easy to use.

The problems I've found with the old site is that the information can get out of date quite quickly but this should be really good.
