Coo-eeh! Come tell us what you think of the New (hopefully much better) Mumsnet Local

Hello. We've been aware for a while now that MN Local isn't all it could be and we've been beavering away for several months now to make it much, much better.

And today's the Grand Unveiling of the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing (well, OK, not quite singing and dancing just yet) Mumsnet Local

We've reorganised the Local sites a bit (they were a bit random, geographically speaking, before). And, if you go to your nearest Mumsnet Local site, you'll see there's much more to it and it's much easier to find your way about. There are loads more categories for listings and space for reviews, and you'll find nearly new inside an expanded Classifieds section - which should make your Mumsnet Local an altogether more helpful place to hang out. Don't worry, we haven't lost the talk threads from old Local. They'll be reappearing in the new sites very soon.

Some Mumsnet Local sites are still a bit light on listings and info (we're working on that right now) but, if you'd like a look at what we're hoping all Mumsnet Locals will look like pretty darn soon, do have a butcher's at Bath. If you want to share something with other Mumsnetters on any of the sites, just click on Add a Listing (the pink button on the right just under the navigation bar).

Sites that are not far behind include Bedford, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bolton & Bury, Manchester & Trafford, Bournemouth & Poole, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Exeter, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, and in London? Barnet, Lambeth, Hackney, Haringey, Hillingdon, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Waltham Forest boroughs.

And we're hoping all the other Local sites, including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, will be hot on their tails. We're looking to entice people to look after these sites, but more on that soon.

We've designed an easy-to-use Meet Ups page. If you want to volunteer to organise a regular meet-up in your area, just email [email protected] . There are more bits and pieces and snazzy new features to come, too. Once --Tech's had a bit of a lie down

We do hope you like what you see. Do let us know what you think - as ever, all feedback is most welcome.

@dinkystinky

Emma - my first post made it on - just tried posting 2 other ones and its happened again! I give up.

Also agree that having to put in a start and end date period is really annoying - particularly for classes that run during term time only year round.

It's probably because when we fix a problem, the site goes down momentarily. Because we've been fixing lots of things, it's happened quite a lot today. Should be better now

Bath one looks great

Bicnod · 18/10/2012 19:05

Is there going to be a Winchester one? There used to be - now only Hampshire, Portsmouth or Southampton...

Ta :)

oldsilver · 18/10/2012 20:00

Hmm this is all a bit of a faff, had to type in the local.mumsnet/Bristol just to have a look - it won't let me follow any links from anywhere. Most of it says not up and running yet. For instance the map doesn't work to find my local site. And when I did finally get to mine, checked out the meet-up section and the map below shows Lambeth which I am sure is not in the West Country Grin

Think I'll wait til it's all up and running properly before I try to have a look again.

Thank goodness the local christmas meet-up thread was moved, or might never have been able to get to it Smile

Hi - MNHQ I am another tsarina who hasn't had an email Sad

FarelyKnuts · 18/10/2012 20:48

Ireland not working at all?
mutter mutter bloody typical :o

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 18/10/2012 21:17

Tried googling local.mumsnet/Colchester on safari, and got a message from my Internet provider flash up saying "sorry, local.mumsnet does not exist or is not available".

Jacksmania · 18/10/2012 21:18

I might have missed it, but has MNHQ ever replied to my question about whether it would be possible to set up an international Mumsnet Local?

Jacksmania · 18/10/2012 21:22

Oh. I've just scrolled back and see that they've replied to almost everyone else except me. Thanks MNHQ.

Warning: I have not had my Salted Caramel Mocha from Starbucks today. Because of feeling guilty that Starbucks aren't paying corporate tax in the UK. Even though I'm in Canada so shouldn't give a rat's pink behind what an American company chooses to do or not do. But still. Supporting MN and all that. Which apparently has done nothing to get me an answer.

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 18/10/2012 21:22

Just tried going through topics, Mumsnet Local, Mumsnet Local - Colchester, and all it brings up is the old chat threads on the App.

I'm just about to try on the mobile site. I wants to seeeeeee.

ZombTEE · 18/10/2012 21:26

jacks go get a Starbucks. It's a stupid boycott. Why should they lose business because they found a way to use our stupid governments policies to their own advantage?

Anyway, I think they told MaryZed they were going to try to do Ireland but I personally would be surprised if they go further afield than that. It is a UK website, after all.

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 18/10/2012 21:30

Right. I can see what it looks like on the mobile site. Very snazzy, if a slightly unfetching shade of green.

Why can't I see it on the App?

Jacksmania · 18/10/2012 21:43

It might be a UK website but there are tons of us all over the world.
And I'd at least like an answer.
[still grumpy]

ZombTEE · 18/10/2012 21:52

Well, they haven't answered half my questions either!

JaquelineHyde · 18/10/2012 22:30

Hello again

still can't get it to work. I'm in the Eastbourne area.

ComradeJing · 19/10/2012 03:38

HQ is there any chance we could have some global local sites? Say one for the middle east, one for HK, one for Singapore, one for Aus?

MrsVincentPrice · 19/10/2012 07:46

I've found my area and it looks lovely and I wanted to scrawl all over the pristine white pages helpfully add some listings, but I have a terrible problem; I can't decide on a Local name.

I agree with the reasoning behind it - it's the fact that it's unchangeable that is paralysing me, and because I don't know what all the cool girls are using I don't know what to pick Sad.

FYI, I do not actually expect Tech to solve this one.

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 19/10/2012 07:56

Just add 'IAm' before your usual talk name if you want to use the same name on local. (Works for me!)

ZombTEE · 19/10/2012 08:16

That's a fantastic idea Couthy!

Although adding one letter to your regular one would work for others as well.

NotGeoffVader · 19/10/2012 10:02

Couthy I just put most of my MN name on MN Local - so I'm there as NotGeoff. Hopefully that'll avoid confusion! :)

EmmaMumsnet · 19/10/2012 11:08

@Bicnod

Ta :)

There are Local Editors for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton, so listings will start filling up in your area. Once Hampshire has got more listings in, you'll be able to filter listings down to Winchester

The link to Bristol is working from the UK map. The map in the meet-ups section is just a holding image until someone volunteers to become a Local Ambassador and adds a meet-up in the information box, then the map becomes live. Fancy being one of the first for Bristol?

Have you looked in your spam? I emailed every Tsarina on the list, but several got back to me only recently, saying they'd found it buried with the other tinned meat
