Tell us what you would like to see on Mumsnet Co-Buying

Mumsnet Co-Buying has launched this week. It works as follows: say lots of Mumsnetters want the same product - could be chocolate or cosmetics, could be gadgets or sports gear - then with Mumsnet Co-Buying the more of you who buy it, the cheaper the price becomes. In partnership with BuyaPowa, we'll feature different products each week. There will be a limited number of each product and each offer will last for a limited amount of time. For more information click here.
So we'd like to know what you'd like to see featured on Mumsnet Co-Buying.
Tell us here and we'll do our best to get the products you want.

Maryz - I think I will order the chocolate... perhaps I could email you and let you know how nice it is. Would that help?

Am a bit bemused that MN seems to want to turn itself into Groupon Hmm, without the Groupon advantage of committing to one set price.

JustineMumsnet · 03/03/2012 22:01

@OneLieIn

Personally I don't want it. Mn is becoming v commercial, you are using the thoughts, posts of mners to build a business.

If you ask me (which you didn't) you are moving away from the very purpose of mn.

Hi OneLieIn,
The purpose of MN is to make parents lives easier. There are tonnes of ways we could have commercialised the site over the years most of which we've eschewed. We've been really careful to only go with things that don't contradict what our core aim is because frankly, we came up with that aim and it matters a lot to us. I think co-buying (and Mumsnet Swears By) work for MN precisely because they ought to make our lives easier - saving time and money - assuming of course that we get the choose the right products. Thanks to all for your thoughts here. We'll do our best to get the products you've asked for.

Hi TheLightPassenger,
If we'd wanted to turn ourselves into Groupon - we'd be sending you a mail a day advertising any old offer we could lay our hands on and most likely mining your data like crazy. We do however think that collating MNetters wisdom and buying power is a potentially useful thing we can do - which fits our purpose and hopefully helps us make a buck or two as well.

Thanks for the reply Justine, and fair point that MNetters who aren't interested will not be pestered/e-mailed about these offers. I genuinely do appreciate the fact that the site owners bother to respond to queries of this nature, which I suspect would be deleted on other forums!. I do think the Groupon model is better, as it's a clear yes/no decision to make about one price.

DottyDot · 04/03/2012 08:34

Completely agree with JustineMN big girly creep but I also would much prefer a collective buy at a cheaper price, like Groupon, rather than this lowering the price as it goes along palaver. Other than the chocolate(ahem) where I got a bit giddy and just pressed all the buttons Blush I'm not into stressing about whether the price is going to drop or have I made a mistake going for something which isn't much cheaper than if I'd googled for a bit and found it cheaper somewhere.

LemonDifficult · 04/03/2012 15:23

Would there be anyway to do an 'I'm in if it's x price'?

I'm all in favour of it as I think it's a good way to pay for all the people needed to police benignly watch over AIBU. I guess whether it will be good for MN users is still to see. If the chocolate comes shortdated, or all the offers turn out to be offloaded otherwise-in-the-sales type stuff then I think there's a risk that it'll just be a turn-off. It'd be a bit of a shame if MN started to feel less 'quality'

Will definitely as about alternative mechanisms - suspect it's how it works financially though - and pass on feedback re quality and name Smile.

Kewcumber · 05/03/2012 14:12

OH NO!

There's a roomba on now, please take me away - I want a roomba - I have visions of a hoovering free life which I'm sure are pie in the sky. But it might work, mightn't it? [hopeful]

Dondonz · 07/03/2012 11:53

Pls help, i cant participate in co-buy deal on YSL's Touche Eclat

RatDesPaquerettes · 07/03/2012 13:27

Dondonz, I don't think that co-buy deal is live yet.

LemonDifficult · 07/03/2012 14:09

I can't find the co-buy link through MN. Where is it?

RatDesPaquerettes · 07/03/2012 15:04

Try this link

LemonDifficult · 07/03/2012 16:22

Thanks. I'm OK with the links off this thread.

I just can't see them anywhere else on the site. There's not one on Style and Beauty or on Money.
