Walking socks. Mnhq I want to ask about walking socks but where? Where do they go? There is no natural home for walking socks.

But there would be if there was an Outdoorsy Shite (name suggested by RowanMN btw) topic.

Base layers are still homeless.

Thread in chat about walking up Snowdon, it will go poof for want of a good home.

Likewise Peak district thread.

And Starling murmurations.

An abundance of goretexy info all down the plug hole, or festering away in Aibu for all I know.

I bet someone on here knows all about some really serious and excellent walking socks but as there's no proper topic what can we do eh??

I guess I'll just have to soldier on with poorly wicking moist socks.

Lovely picture, fantastic scenery.

Don't talk to me about starling murmurations. The little feckers murmurated all over my patio and car for about three weeks a little while ago Angry

I'd like a car topic myself.

Have you tried Blacks or Millets for the socks Slubber?

PS I have always loved your name.

Northey · 21/02/2012 20:03

Let's put on the show right here in the barn!

Do you want thick and warm or thin and cool, slubber? Smartwool and Thorlos are my favourites.

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 20:05

Well thank you Zuzu [smil]

I have never seen a murmuration but after that bit on Countryfile on Sunday I really want to. I gather they often kill the trees they roost in, such is the potency of their, mmmm what is it called, mounds of bird poo? Starts with G... Sorry they got your car though.

Yes I guess I could go to Blacks and talk with an earnest young man about socks, but I would love a little chat about them here first.

No nono I think we should HOLD BACK on the socks. Let's have a Christmas morn of walking socks when we get the topic [ever hopeful]

I'd love a great outdoors thread but only if I can shagged senseless cuddle Matt Baker in a thicket.

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 20:09

Ps I want thick and warm. Have thin and cool (see profile)

Walking socks go at the back of your socks drawer btw.

I wear two pairs. Thin and cool silky jobbies from , hmm GoOutdoors I think and a thicker pair on top.

I'd like to talk blisters and lost toenails. I've only just regrown one lost as a result of a two day walk on Gower in horizontal rain resulting in something akin to trenchfoot.

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 20:15

Shock just a whole load of Shock at references to the lovely Matt Baker and wank socks on this VERY CLEAN AND WHOLESOME walking socks topic request thread.

Begone foul lowereres of the tone.

Oh dear sagger. I'm sorry to hear about your poor feet.

Mnhq see Trenchfoot avoidance. Where does that go? A Great Outdoors topic would fit the bill perfectly.

OP posts:
saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/02/2012 20:30

Yes. The great Outdoors. Trenchfoot wouldn't get many responses in Health.

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 20:35

Did they go all white and prune-like?

Oh Wow. Amazing photos, just amazing. Envy. We're you doing the coast path then?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/02/2012 20:47

Yes from Llanmadoc to Port Eynon on day 1 and on to Langland Bay on day 2.

Day 1 was grim weather wise and day 2 was lovely weather but by then my feet were shot because my boots leaked and I walked it with gritted teeth.

motherinferior · 21/02/2012 20:49

I would like a walking sock topic. Not because I am a particularly zealous walker but I really like woolly socks. I get very cold feet. Am a bit of a Sock Fetishist. Possibly, as I am only five foot tall (my feet are also very small and are frequently clad in children's walking socks) a Sock Puppet.

Sneezeblossom · 21/02/2012 20:49

Can I shag cuddle Matt as long as its up a mountain? He'd keep your feet warm.

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 21:04

Saggar even the pics in the Welsh grey drizzle look fab. Another part of the country I have yet to visit.

MI Grin Maybe an entire topic devoted to walking socks is a wee bit niche but if and when an actual whole proper thread occurs I will give you a heads up. I am also cold of foot (but of big foot).

Sneeze. no.

OP posts:
Sneezeblossom · 21/02/2012 21:06

I could wear walking socks at the same time?

Slubberdegullion · 21/02/2012 21:15

No. No. No.

The lovely Mr Baker is far too busy doing his be-gileted hill striding activities to be fannying about warming up mners, with or without socks.

I love rawhead. Sat there with ds2 eating soup from mugs watching an organised cold front sweep across the plain and discussed the resultant precipitation with him.

We need a topic like outdoorsy shite for that.

FryingNemo · 21/02/2012 21:58

We need this topic because I need walking trews and I can't ask in style and beauty can I?
Please ?
Outdoorsy shite has a lovely ring to it.

mrspnut · 21/02/2012 22:01

I have some lovely Brasher three season unisex trekking socks and they are so cosy.
I bought mine in Blacks but they have a website with internet suppliers on too.
