Walking socks. Mnhq I want to ask about walking socks but where? Where do they go? There is no natural home for walking socks.

But there would be if there was an Outdoorsy Shite (name suggested by RowanMN btw) topic.

Base layers are still homeless.

Thread in chat about walking up Snowdon, it will go poof for want of a good home.

Likewise Peak district thread.

And Starling murmurations.

An abundance of goretexy info all down the plug hole, or festering away in Aibu for all I know.

I bet someone on here knows all about some really serious and excellent walking socks but as there's no proper topic what can we do eh??

I guess I'll just have to soldier on with poorly wicking moist socks.

Whereas if you post the same thing twice on a thread in Site Stuff we can ALL point and laugh :)

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/02/2012 17:17

golemmings and I are staking our claim in World Cup 2010. Come join us.

sunshineoutdoors · 24/02/2012 06:40

I started the walking up Snowdon thread! . I was surprised at the time that I couldn't find anywhere to put it. A walk dorks topic would be fantastic.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2012 08:27

Walk dork. Arf.

Snowdon was what got me hooked on big hills. Though it was horrendously busy. I was shocked! Beautiful day though and fab views.

Sockspence · 24/02/2012 08:38

In the absence of the Outdoorsy Shite topic, may I venture that wearing these socks is akin to having one's feet gently caressed by one's favourite Outdoorsy Beeb presenter.. Wink

Another vote for The Great Outdoors (or Outdoorsy Shite if you must). I never know where to post birdwatching or natural history type things.

If we don't get it, it will confirm that MNHQ are all wimpy Londoncentric urbanites

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2012 09:44

Walking sock porn Grin

I like these silkysocks. Then I wear a thicker pair on top

Sneezeblossom · 24/02/2012 09:46

MNHQ townies? I'm sure they will prove us wrong. They could put their skinny caramel lattes in a thermos. Think of the new advertising opportunities with the outdoors companies.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2012 09:48

Oh yes. I need a new flask.

Methe · 24/02/2012 09:51

Another vote for Outdoorsy Shite!

I saw starling murmerations in Bicester last year. Breathtaking!

Trills · 24/02/2012 10:01

You'll just post it in AIBU anyway because "there's no traffic in Outdoorsy Shite"

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2012 10:02

We don't like traffic anyway. We like peace and quiet. And Matt Baker.

Sneezeblossom · 24/02/2012 10:06

Precisely. We could get all rabid like the doghouse posters when someone new comes in "our" topic not having climbed up Snowdon twice a week since birth.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/02/2012 10:16

No sneeze - we'd welcome newcomers, but we'd get furious with ones who think its a good idea to walk up a mountain in sandals with no map and a mobile phone.

Northey · 24/02/2012 10:21

Not that a mobile phone isn't a good thing to have. It's just that it really shouldn't be the only thing you have.

sunshineoutdoors · 24/02/2012 12:39

Is it ok if I don't fancy Matt Baker?

Sneezeblossom · 24/02/2012 13:59

Only if you fancy that ginger farmer or john craven instead.

QuintessentialyHollow · 24/02/2012 14:00

Slubber, you need Bridgedale merino walking socks.

RebeccaMumsnet · 24/02/2012 14:21

It's a Soya Caramel Latte actually

I live in the south west and am very outdoorsy as are my collegues at the Towers. HelenMumsnet is a champion Kite Surfer and OliviaMumsnet was last seen with a compass and a book of Various species of the genus Erica heading north. Grin

Can I refer you to HelenMumsnet's post here this morning.

We will raise the idea of an outdoorsy shite topic at our next Very Important Meeting.

QuintessentialyHollow · 24/02/2012 14:36

Rather than "Outdoorsy shite" you could maybe just call the topic "Ask Quint".

GrimmaTheNome · 24/02/2012 15:32

I don't fancy Matt or any of them but suspect DH fancies the female CF totty.

golemmings · 24/02/2012 16:40

I used to live in the peak district and regularly used to upset hard core walkers with my inappropriate clothing.

I lived in bakewell and there was a lovely walk along the Monsal Trail (disused railway line) with a really nice pub ay Monsal Head about 4 miles away. DH and I regularly wandered down there in jeans and trainers - a waterproof if it was raining when we set off otherwise just a fleece or maybe just a jumper... It was 4 miles. We knew the area and we were really only going out for a pint! Everybody else was dressed for severe mountain weather with spare layers, emergency rations, gaiters the lot. We got a lot of fabulously filthy looks for daring to be out inappropriatly dressed!

GrimmaTheNome · 24/02/2012 16:44

You don't need full walking gear to wander along a disused railway line...that is not the habitat of 'hardcore walkers'. Those were obviously posers who you were making feel silly when they realised how overdressed they were.

Slubberdegullion · 24/02/2012 17:07

Grin at you lot.

Off to check out the World Cup sit in.
