Walking socks. Mnhq I want to ask about walking socks but where? Where do they go? There is no natural home for walking socks.

But there would be if there was an Outdoorsy Shite (name suggested by RowanMN btw) topic.

Base layers are still homeless.

Thread in chat about walking up Snowdon, it will go poof for want of a good home.

Likewise Peak district thread.

And Starling murmurations.

An abundance of goretexy info all down the plug hole, or festering away in Aibu for all I know.

I bet someone on here knows all about some really serious and excellent walking socks but as there's no proper topic what can we do eh??

I guess I'll just have to soldier on with poorly wicking moist socks.

I did a circular walk including the Monsal Trail last week. Fine walking on the trail but path off the trail on way back to Monsal Head was flooded and alternate route was slippery and steep. Oh how we laughed at the feckless walkers in festival wellies who were falling down/clutching to tree branches.
Proper boots all the way for me.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/02/2012 18:56

golemmings - the Monsal Trail has been opened almost all the way to Buxton now from Bakewell, through the tunnels. Loads of folk out enjoying it, buggy friendly and there's cycle hire at both ends.

I've done Monsall, Tissington and Manifold on bike.

golemmings · 25/02/2012 02:47

I'd heard the tunnels were open. I'd love to go back. Maybe we'll grab the tent this summer and head over.

We've been caught out by flooded paths just above monsal too. Took friends' elderly guide dog out from millars dale to monsal over the hills intending to take the path home through water cum jolly. Except it was flooded and we had to come the long way home. The poor dog; have you ever seen a Labrador too tired to eat?

Back from hols in lovely snowy mountains.

@ northey. It was meek and running away but still fearsomely large. There are lots of the over here.

Hurry up and decide - I've eaten them out of prawn cocktail crisps already.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/03/2012 21:22

Prawn cocktail crisps? I'm going to have to start on pork scratchings soon.

The5thFishy · 06/03/2012 21:26

I think we need to dump a tractor trailer load of horse shit in the MNHQ foyer

GrimmaTheNome · 06/03/2012 21:28

Nah, the people off the gardening topic would just come and shovel it up to put on their roses.

The5thFishy · 06/03/2012 21:36

Pig shit? Sheep shit?

GrimmaTheNome · 06/03/2012 21:40

My dog used to enthusiastically eat sheep shit. It'd better be pig. Maximum pungency, least chance of stray gardeners and dogs removing it.

No! No! We can't do that! We must stoically and bobble-hattedly persuade them in a wholesome outdoorsy type fashion with 'Morning, lovely weather we're having' and leaving gates open or shut according to how we found them.

Win them over with the niceness and the pints and the fresh country air.

MNHQ - Have you had your Very Important Meeting yet? Were we on the agenda or was it full of F4J angst?

Wot about Fellwalkers4Justice? Hey?
