mn hq, can we have an explanation - jess - and maybe re other trolls in future?

I am aware that you can't divulge the means by which you determine whether or not a poster is genuine, predominantly because if you make that common knowledge then posters will know how to avoid being detected in the future.

but jess (long ongoing eleven weeks abortion threads) threads have now been deleted for being a troll, and I was wondering if, given it's the site users who usually report these things, we could perhaps have a bit more by way of explanation?

e.g. when sassysusan was banned, mn hq confirmed that she had previously posted as washwithcare, and users were able to identify.

There has been some speculation that jess was dizzymare, and I wondered whether this was the case?

Also, these threads have been ongoing for over a month now. How is it that it takes quite this long to determine that someone isn't actually all they seem?

maryz - I agree with you on that - I am very very careful on contentious threads with what I type - specifically so that I don't get deleted as I feel deletions play into the troll's hands iyswim? (have pm'd you)

Thumbwitch · 22/02/2012 09:04

It would be nice if MNHQ could give a reason for deletion, even if it's coded!

Code 101: personal attack
Code 102: troll hunting
Code 103: asking for money
Code 104: asking for votes
Code 105: being a troll
Code 106: calling MNHQ cunts (or whatever)
Code 107: giving unnecessary personal detail about another poster, potentially outing them

Something like that, maybe. Or just saying why!

Pagwaatch · 22/02/2012 09:10

I was a bit surprised to be deleted when I said something like

'actually I would prefer this was a troll thread as if it is real it is simply awful'.

But I think mnhq were just hitting delete by that stage at anything that even contained the word troll. It was like a panic response. I have a vision of some poor woman shrieking as she rapidly hits a red button 'troll..delete..troll...delete'

If any contentious thread ever occurs at a screening of TrollHunter mn will be fucked.

Maryz - really that was about all I said. I've emailed hq to ask why I was deleted because honestly I don't think I said anything that broke talk guidelines.

You saw my post - all I said was people were telling the op to report to SS and how was it troll hunting to say she was angry/hadn't done anything and some other stuff that was quotes off the thread.

Which still stand btw.

WTF was I deleted - I am actually very angry about it.

hathorinareddress · 22/02/2012 10:14

I've asked HQ for an explanation for my deletion on the other thread, but I'm copying part of my post, as I think it's relevant

"I don't believe my post broke guidelines, otherwise we aren't allowed to defend ourselves - aggressive posters with an agenda can throw out accusations of trollhunting and those to whom the accusation is made cannot defend themselves, which isn't fair."

Agreed. But I do think the general point that an accusation of trollhunting can be made, and is allowed to stand, but the defence of that is deleted and the rebuttal of the accusation is deleted - that's not fair and it makes the deleted person look like they were rude/troll hunting when they weren't they were defending themselves.

Hi hathorinareddress

The posts that were removed, were removed for troll hunting or the implication that the OP was/is a troll.

By all means report 'aggressive posters with an agenda' to us and we will take a look but we do ask that you don't troll hunt on the boards.

In your previous post you asked 'How is it troll hunting to say "there are inconsistencies in your posts and you are drip feeding" when that is the case?'

This is troll hunting. We ask that you report inconsistencies and/or dripfeeding to us rather than shout 'troll' on the thread. If you are wrong then folks can and do get hurt, if you are right then the troll is getting all the lovely attention that they crave.

Please please keep reporting, we do look at everyone.

Thanks mazzer Smile

Please don't worry about me, I am fine. And I agree with you about the ppn of responses on the thread.
It is just shocking to me that anyone can be whining about the posters feeling whilst clearly not giving a shiney shit about a vulnerable child

It also wasn't the poster you refer to. It was a different one.

RebeccaMumsnet · 22/02/2012 10:36

hathorinareddress · 22/02/2012 10:38

Rebecca - thank you but why are the aggressive posts accusing of troll hunting allowed to stand then? If my defence breaks guidelines, then the original accusation should also break guidelines and should be deleted.

And are we not allowed to say on a thread then "there are inconsistencies and you have been drip feeding" if a poster has?
