Mumsnet Homeswap - the houses are so luxurious!

so I've just been looking at the link to the homeswapping site through the email, as this is something we are thinking of doing.

But the houses are all so luxurious! where did they come from - surely they're not mumsnetters homes? I don't think I would feel comfortable swapping with any of those luxury houses, and I'm not sure that the residents of them would want to live in my house. are there any "normal" houses in the list?

sue - come to mine, oxfordshire, i even have a large (currently empty) rabbit hutch - though i seem to recall that bunnies don't much like travelling.

DottyDot · 30/12/2011 13:55

Hmm - was going to suggest a separate thread but then remembered there's a whole section here Blush

Might start a message in there as I'm definitely fancying a weekend break away somewhere...

aristocat · 30/12/2011 13:56

lissie we are almost neighbours Grin i am in sunny wolverhampton!
cannot imagine anyone would swap to come here ......

NotnOtter · 30/12/2011 13:57

I too am up for a more realistic house swap- can we do a MN one? A proper one?
If we set about it now we could safe a fortune come summer?

lostinwales · 30/12/2011 13:57

Tee hee there's one just down the road from me, I don't think they would want to swap with us!

OracleInaCoracle · 30/12/2011 13:57

aristocat, there are v few mners around us arent there?

MotherPanda · 30/12/2011 13:57

dotty - i had no idea that was there! why would anyone pay for membership when that one is there for free!

DottyDot · 30/12/2011 13:58

A proper one would be good - with photos and info and stuff. The house swaps section at the moment doesn't seem to get much traffic. Think I posted on it when it first opened and had no luck Sad

OracleInaCoracle · 30/12/2011 13:59

lostinwales, Ive seen your house (iirc) from a boat trip and its lovely!

Shakey1500 · 30/12/2011 14:00

Actually I thought the kitchen in The Hamptons one was a bit small and B&Q -esque Grin

MotherPanda · 30/12/2011 14:01

right - pressure group for mumsnet me thinks. we want a real home swap!

NotnOtter · 30/12/2011 14:02

Oooh mother panda any link to guardian one?

MotherPanda · 30/12/2011 14:02

By the by - people may want to swap in undesirable places to visit family etc

MotherPanda · 30/12/2011 14:03

www.guardianhomeexchange.co.uk/

Pixel · 30/12/2011 14:04

Yeah, thanks for the email. Don't think my landlord will approve though. Not that I feel excluded or anything.

Perhaps we could organise a MN tent swap for poor people who have small cars. I'll pitch my tent on a campsite near me and someone can just turn up with a bag of clothes and a case of wine. Grin

TurkeyCurryTilFebruary · 30/12/2011 14:05

MotherPanda Yes, I'd love to find a nice normal house in quite a few random towns across the UK because it would be great to be able to visit family without having to pay for accommodation or squeeze in with them - make it more of a holiday.
That being said, I bet no one wants to stay in my town, even I don't want to stay in my town!

aristocat · 30/12/2011 14:05

yes lissie hardly any ..... that Shrewsbury mansion house looks amazing

fishie · 30/12/2011 14:05

yes that mn section would be much better. lissie i love shrop/wales bit. cannot quite enthuse re wolverhampton sorry aristo.

i live in olympics land. havent got any tickets and won't be able to get to work...

Shakey1500 · 30/12/2011 14:06

Oh my. Just looked at another (Tonbridge) and thought oooh that's a nice size. It was the "Guest Pavillion". Absloutely stunning. I shall offer them ten whole British Pounds to purchase. I would go up to thirty but don't tell them that

aristocat · 30/12/2011 14:07

no offence taken fishie

D0oinMeCleanin · 30/12/2011 14:08

Oh lord I could never add my house to that site or the Guardian one, although I very much doubt anyone would like to visit my house. I have no idea why. We're very close to anything you could possibly need. There is a big supermarket, the town center, a beach and two parks all within walking distance. As an added bonus the local drug dealer lives but five doors down and the local football hooligans convene next door for those who like such things Grin

lostinwales · 30/12/2011 14:08

You have lissie you'll have seen the back of the one on the swap site too then, it's further towards the sea with a garden going down to the river, very lovely! I love how they have listed places to eat that are an hour drive away, not much happening round here Grin (apart from boat trips of course, they are very good)

TheMonster · 30/12/2011 14:09

I'd be up for a swap of normal homes. There's no way I would pay £99 a year to be told no-one will swap their mansion for my 2 bed dated bungalow in West Yorks.

DottyDot · 30/12/2011 14:10

Maybe we could get MN to re-launch it or something? And have a section for photos - glam it up a bit?! I'm busy dreaming planning weekend breaks for 2012 - maybe it's a good time to get swapping..?

DottyDot · 30/12/2011 14:11

Yes it should be called MN Normal Home Swaps - much less scary Grin
