Mumsnet Homeswap - the houses are so luxurious!

BeattieBow · 30/12/2011 12:28

so I've just been looking at the link to the homeswapping site through the email, as this is something we are thinking of doing.

But the houses are all so luxurious! where did they come from - surely they're not mumsnetters homes? I don't think I would feel comfortable swapping with any of those luxury houses, and I'm not sure that the residents of them would want to live in my house. are there any "normal" houses in the list?

or shiny tack...i have those in abundance since the xmas decs have fallen down...

is it bad form to laugh at ones own jokes?

LeBOF · 30/12/2011 17:04

If you want to stay in a well-polished stable, shiny tack is definitely the way to go.

PMSL at these descriptions. Manatee, must use the cat description and also love the sound of your house!

Have worked mine out properly now-

3 bedroomed mid-terraced 60's house with compact, natural garden. No central heating but ineffective halogen heaters for those chillier evenings (I couldn't be mean enough to swap between October and March Grin). Garage full of junk and shed also full of junk and possibly rats. Friendly neighbours my parents who have a key and will walk in on you having sex and colourful local characters drug dealer who will offer you a bargain prcie. Near to lovely historic overpriced Cathedral City and with beautiful views of the South Downs if you stick your head out of the back bedroom window and rotate it 90 degrees. Gorgeous resident ginger cat, a fabulous strong character. Chainlink gloves provided.

my dh is from your neck of the woods BOF! he says the sea never comes in....Grin

only someone of of their tiny minds would want to come here....id be embarrassed. its the ugliest town ever, when i move 5 miles down the road to a medieval market town i might consider it....actually won't

Pixel · 30/12/2011 17:12

I think my gorgeous in looks only, he has a black heart ginger tom must be related to yours. The vet has written "feisty cat" in his notes. Grin

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 30/12/2011 17:13

musicposy I have a sneaky suspicion you are close to my Mum's. At hers, one has to do a one armed handstand on the chimney to get mobile reception. The joys of country living.

tethersend · 30/12/2011 17:19

Sudden thought: isn't there a MNer here with chocolate brown walls and a bright orange sofa? I dimly remember something like that from the 'MNers Hello Magazine' thread."

HA HA!

That's me Grin Although the Walls are black, not brown (brown in the bedroom); the sofa is indeed orange leather. I do like the 1970s. I have a lot of 70s vinyl wallpaper and huge lamps.

I think I may have said too much...

tethersend · 30/12/2011 17:24

I do also have a giant painting of Quincy on the living room Walls, if that helps?

I have a feeling it will not.

LeBOF · 30/12/2011 17:24

Were you the one trying to buy an avocado bathroom suite? Grin

tethersend · 30/12/2011 17:28

YES!

Grin

Do you have one?

Although I would prefer chocolate brown...

ThatVikRinA22 · 30/12/2011 17:33

wish id known....i skipped one.

SuePurblybilt · 30/12/2011 17:35

tethers, ask your tip men to save you one. They would round here, with a tenner left as deposit (never mention it again).

DharmaCeutical · 30/12/2011 18:24

Oh, I've just noticed that DCs can't be left as part of the inventory. Shame, that.

SuePurblybilt · 30/12/2011 18:25

Maybe they can if they're privately educated, that's why you have to say so.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 30/12/2011 18:26

Dharma - I did actually ask if we might swap DC. I would be very happy to swap mine Grin

SuePurblybilt · 30/12/2011 18:31

I'm not swapping, I don't go mad for other people's children Grin
But I suppose they could show you how to work the oven.

tethersend · 30/12/2011 18:38

I'll swap mine for an avocado bathroom suite

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 30/12/2011 18:38

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. In a parallel universe maybe Sue.

GeekLove · 30/12/2011 18:53

Would love to house swap but who would want to swap anywhere for a 3 bed mid terrace in Coventry. We haven't any beaches but do have a vegetable patch.
Any takers?

LineRunner · 30/12/2011 19:07

No-one could stay in my house without slagging me off on MN after. No-one.

BleurghUna · 30/12/2011 19:18

I want to know why this costs £99 a year when Guardian houseswap is £30 and NCT Houseswap is free to members. Where is all that money going?
I've been home swapping with NCT for 6 years and will stick with that, at least the houses are comparable to mine!

LadyBeagleEyes · 30/12/2011 19:37

There's another thread about this on chat.
How do we combine them?

SuePurblybilt · 30/12/2011 19:56

MN HovelSwap is a barginous 50p a year BleurghUna.

musicposy · 30/12/2011 21:14

Interestingly, I went on some other completely unrelated website today (looking for dancewear shops, I think) and lo and behold, there was an advert for Lovehomeswap or whatever it is.

Sadly, I fear it was never designed to try and get me to list my disintegrating country hovel with no mobile phone reception. Wink Sad

Pixel · 30/12/2011 21:22

Don't look at me Geeklove.
I visited Coventry for the first time this summer, got hopelessly lost and almost caused a pile-up on a horrid big roundabout. Not showing my face there again. Blush
