Inbox and PMs- Can we have folders, please?

Dear MNHQ, can you please consider a 'Folder' type thingy (technical term) for managing PMs?

Would really help with sorting my electronic paperwork.

Thanks

As have requested previously, please can we have the facility to block PMs altogether?

I can't give free private advice to the world and his wife, I don't have time and its not fair on posters/lurkers who may benefit from the advice if a thread were started. It would be much easier if people just couldn't PM me in the first place.

On MNHQs advice I've tried ignoring unsolicited PMs asking for free advice and that's not working. I'm now getting chased. HmmShock

SeenButNotHeard · 29/02/2012 14:23

People have PM conversations?

People need folders to keep PMs organised?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 15:26

MNHQ - in the last seven days I have had

528 PMs

I know the blanket making projects maybe use the PM system to another level, but me and Knotty need HELP!!

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/02/2012 15:47

Please report these to us by clicking on the red hand icon in the message. That really is not on and breaks our PM guidelines.

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 16:09

Hello, loverly Rebecca Grin

Thanks for having a look. I know we're nagging, sorry. It's we're trying to be organised so we don't miss anyone.
It's a bit tricksy with the way the PMs are at the minute.

Well after some effort I managed to find the PM guidelines and all it says is journalists and market research not allowed.

I'm no more comfortable with reporting someone than I am replying to them refusing their request anyway. Either feels a bit unpleasant tbh, however ignoring and pretending I haven't seen isn't working.

Would still much prefer someone attempting to PM me (or anyone who doesn't want to receive messages) wasn't physically able to do so tbh.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 20:25

Maryz - I love it!!!

PisteyMumsnet

Wine Cheers!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 20:31

Kewcumber - in the last seven days I have had 542 inbox messages and have sent over 600 PMs. All connected to the blanket threads. Exceptional?Maybe. But we urgently need a review of the whole system see further up this thread for other ideas.

As far as the Blanketeteers go, in the first instance and as a matter of urgency we need folders for organisation and search. We really do! We are trying so hard here! Wine

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 20:34

Yes, tech you did read that right 542

Wine Wine

And KnottyMumsnet has had loads too

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 21:02

actually 546 now

HTH

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 21:51

THis is for you Wine

When people send you PMs, do you have the same system as we do? I'm wondering how on earth you can search back for old messages? How do you manage?

Up to 548 now btw Wine

Maybe a PM would be more appropriate...

Trills · 29/02/2012 22:19

I have already posted on this thread...

I agree with Trills - conversation-style is far more important than folders.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 06:47

Maryz and Knotty - good idea Grin

Trills, we are looking at this with our Blanket making heads on, as we are really struggling, but I can see that a conversation type layout like Facebook would certainly be better too, so you would have the contact with one person all in one place, so reference back would be easy.
Knotty this would really help us too you know.

I think the folders thing we are asking for is something that would really, really help the Blanket Projects

I'm not Rebecca, but I'll answer on her behalf.. Yes we do have the same system for PMs as you do, but we don't really receive PMs as all the reports go through emails instead please don't start clogging up my PM inbox Grin

We're currently working on a temporary fix for all the knitters Wink But like Rebecca said earlier, Tech are working on improving the whole system, so just sit tight!

flowery · 01/03/2012 14:45

I feel like my problem is teeny compared to nearly 600 a WEEK. Shock

But yes an auto-response like MaryZ suggested would work fine for me

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:52

Thank you Kat. We really appreciate your time and efforts, and will be so grateful for any help!

flowery - tis a different problem Knotty and I are have, but yours is no less important.
