dear mn hq, please could something be done about the anti sn posts on mn

as I know you are aware(I have the emails) people from the sn community have left this week, due to the vile things that have been said to the/or about SN.
isn't it time that mn hq took some steps to eradicate this, as you do with trolls? surely disablist/anti sn/ personal attacks should be deleted and something done about the posters.
or do we just keep loosing well informed, SN educated people from mn.
(no I can't link to a thread as there has been too many)

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 11/09/2011 10:52

I agree some posts should stand , but if its obvious trolling to wind people up and cause distress they should be deleted

4madboys · 11/09/2011 10:52

the 'specialneedsy' comment was not on glittersthread (it was on one fanjo was on?) i think about children and safety? ihave jsut read through and reported several posts on glitters thread.

monitering it my arse, kidsrfreaky or whatever she/he was called is blatantly trolling.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 11/09/2011 10:53

Unspecialneedsy was on the 'Shall I let my baby hurt herself by eating rubber bands? thread.
To which another poster responded:

'"un-special-needsy LOL! That will get them all going- most people who most on mumsnet seem to have kids with special needs!"'

Ho ho bloody ho.

akaemmafrost · 11/09/2011 10:54

Four years I have been on here and grown to realise that on MN as in RL it seems that SN are free for all and everyone can have an opinion no matter how disgusting or disablist.

Someone from MN who I had on FB called someone she had a problem with a "Retard", I made a comment on how offensive I found it and deleted her but this kind of thing is ALWAYS popping up on here and I just avoid the threads now.

I sometimes want to start a thread complaining about a Racist Stereotype and then use the outraged responses I get as an example of how Disablism seems to be so disgustingly acceptable on here but I don't think anyone would care Sad.

Can you direct me to the threads please? Think I am going to stop sticking my head in the sand and start giving disablist fuckers a drubbing from here on in.

4madboys · 11/09/2011 10:57

they are both in aibu.

i have just reported the 'special needsy' comment as well.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 11/09/2011 10:57

I can't teach at school that bullying isn't ok and that children have a responsibility not to stand by when they see other, vulnerable children being attacked on whatever grounds, and then let it go on an adult forum.
The hypocrisy would choke me.
Stay silent, it's not your problem, it doesn't involve you, turn away.Confused

oh and "Specialneedsy" is not deemed offensive by mn hq

And that's why people will leave. Why would we want to be part of a forum that condones language like this.

I dont say it lightly, I've been here over six years and could cry to think of all the good things MN has done, mile for maude, blankets, christmas gifts, too many to name. But if MNHQ won't challenge stuff which is SO cleary anti-SN I no longer want to be a part of MN.

QuickLookBusy · 11/09/2011 10:58

I think it was on Friday someone used the word 'shyster' which is offensive to Jewish people. The thread was reported and then rightly deleted very quickly. I have seen really offensive remarks made about sn children and their families but nothing is ever done.

It is an absolute disgrace and I cannot for the life of me understand why MNHQ think it's acceptable. Do they like their site being littered with words like 'retard'???

I would love to see Justine someone from MNHQ trying to justify their policy about this on BBC Breakfast.

I think the idea of a web chat with MNHQ about this subject is an excellent one and something we should all shout for.

akaemmafrost · 11/09/2011 10:59

Oh and I once started a thread under a different name in Chat explaining my ds's "invisible" disability and what it means to us on a day to day basis and what we are up against. I got some amazing responses it is true - 70 of them. Of all the posters on MN only 70 wanted to respond to me and some of them were convos that I got into with various posters so repeat posts. Now if I had started a thread regarding a racist incident or a sexist incident or about homeless people, which I did once and got hundreds and hundreds of posts I would have, quite rightly, been overwhelmed with sympathetic and caring responses. It seems that prejudices have a pecking order and I don't think those with SN even appear on the list, certainly not on MN anyway.

MmeLindor. · 11/09/2011 11:01

Am reading Glitter's thread. God, it is awful.

I don't think that the posts should be deleted though.

It has changed my opinion of a few posters, but then that is a good thing.

so how long till mnhq actually reply to this thread?

and how in the name of all things holy can 'un special needsy' NOT be seen to be offensive.

4madboys · 11/09/2011 11:08

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1297065-to-allow-my-baby-to-hurt-herself this the the one with unspecialneedsy...

sorry cant do links Blush

AtYourCervix · 11/09/2011 11:08

can you PM me a link? I can't find it and would like to add my support.

WidowWadman · 11/09/2011 11:09

It was me who posted the first comment. As I've tried to explain twice on the thread, it was not meant as an insult or derogatory in any way shape or form, but just as a short hand. I didn't know the term "neurotypical" at the time.

As I've said on the other thread, I'm truly sorry if that choice of words caused offence. I didn;t intend to offend with this choice of words.

It seems also that I have not expressed myself very well in the argument. I didn not intend to say that anyone was a bad parent or a worse parent than me - I objected to that insinuation (now deleted), which sadly has been misread as another attack on someone's parenting style, and followed by my choice of words with which I unintendedly offended a lot of users this suddenly turned into an argument I never set out to have.

I'm quite gutted if I have come across as someone who deliberately pokes fun at people with disabilities or their carers. I wouldn't and I have the biggest sympathies for people who have to face these problems and am grateful that I don't.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1297075-To-wonder-what-the-govt-has-planned-to-punish-those-NOT-on-benefits

and this is glitters thread, again apologies for it not being a link, you will have to c&p it to your address bar :)

usualsuspect · 11/09/2011 11:10

glitter's thread

MmeLindor. · 11/09/2011 11:10

Glitterknickaz thread on benefits.

MNHQ might not post until tomorrow. It is Sunday, the thread was started late last night.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 11/09/2011 11:10

BunnyWunny and WidowWadman are the posters you are looking for on that thread.
Is naming names Bad Form?
Oh Dear.

Pagwatch · 11/09/2011 11:10

I have just read glitters thread too.

It is a mixture of stupidity and nastiness. I am sorry that other mums have left but I am pleased that I know a little bit more about a couple of posters I recognised on there. Always nice to know who the cunts are.

deemented · 11/09/2011 11:11

I find it quite telling that MNHQ haven't actually answered this thread yet.

I for one, can't wait to read their response.

MmeLindor. · 11/09/2011 11:12

Widow
I understand that you made a mistake with the "specialneedsy" comment, but the worse comment was from Bunnyfluffy (or similar NMumsy name) laughing about the SN parents, imo.

deemented · 11/09/2011 11:12

Mme - i think we all know just how quickly MNHQ can get their fingers out of their arses and do something when they want to...

Peachy · 11/09/2011 11:12

Widow thank you for ahving the guts to come here and post.
