What's happened to the I-phone app?

Anyone else got this? It updated today and now all the icons at the top and bottom of screen are HUGE. If I hit the + in the top right hand corner the options are too big for the screen. What's going on hq?

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the reports, and special thanks go to RustyBear for providing us with screenshots. We shall bundle it all together and get our app gremlins to work on it as soon as we can.

I would recommend abstaining from the update if you use an iPad or retina display iPhone/iPod touch (i.e. fourth generation). There does not seem to be an issue with 3rd-generation iPods/iPhones or lower.

I downloaded the update the other day on to my iPhone 4, and like others the new version is driving me mad! Is there any way I can uninstall the update to return to the original until the problem is fixed?

If you have the old version stored on iTunes, I think you can re-sync to that (delete the app from your iPhone before connecting it up). No good if you've already updated your local copy of course, but it may help.

Neverlandpirate · 27/07/2011 13:32

Thanks I will try that later Smile

RustyBear · 27/07/2011 13:35

Forgot to mention my iPad is the original, not the ipad2, which is maybe why it's OK - at least in portrait mode

cherryburton · 27/07/2011 13:38

I've got this issue on my iPod touch too....

SleepySuzy · 27/07/2011 14:16

DamianTech thanks for keeping us updated Smile

Neverlandpirate · 29/07/2011 01:46

Hi DamianTech I did as you suggested and it worked! I am back with the original app now which is working great in the iphone4 Smile thankyou.

Any idea when it will be safe to try the updated version? After the problems have been fixed??

DamianTech · 29/07/2011 10:36

There's no ETA on a new update yet, but we will let you know when it's available. I'm afraid it may be a while, since it has to get fixed, tested, checked by Apple, etc.. Apologies for the inconvenience.

startail · 29/07/2011 16:27

It's broken my iPod 4 tooSad
Stupid large buttons and menus Angry

jaffababy · 31/07/2011 10:25

MN needs to sort out its technology. I've never seen such a poorly-tested app. I'm amazed Apple allow it in the app store. This isn't a cyber gremlins conspiracy; it's shoddy development and testing.

ZuleikaJambiere · 31/07/2011 14:27

Like Fuzzled, everytime I open another app and try to return to MN, I go back to the home screen and lose the thread I was reading, think I'll go back to the mobile site as it's driving me a bit potty. it's only happened since I updated yesterday

I'm not having the issues with the big icons though. I have an iPhone 3GS

Macaroona · 31/07/2011 19:59

Same problem here - it's incredibly annoying to click on a link in a thread like In The News or Style And Beauty, read the link then when you go back to the MN app it's reset back to the home screen!

Has made me use the mobile web version again til it's fixed.

Also - page numbers on threads. Please.

lindsell · 31/07/2011 23:37

I'm having the same problem as zuelika and macaroona since the latest update - it's v v irritating to be constantly thrown back to the home page if you follow a link/get a txt or whatever.

I'm back using the mobile site.

I have iPhone 3GS and the latest iOS which updated today.

CluckyKate · 01/08/2011 13:56

Arghhhh - so,the only way of knowing not to update the app would be to read this thread Confused

Could you not just withdraw the update rather than bury this helpful advice in a thread??? Alternatively, make this advice a bit more visible.

While you're working on the update would it be possible to issue an update with the "old" version of the app?

Looking forward to seeing what exciting changes in store for us Smile

SleepySuzy · 11/08/2011 08:03

Just wondering if there's any news. Getting increasingly frustrated with it.

Minkyjj · 11/08/2011 18:41

Same here - iphone 4, uploaded app recently and its completely unusable - can we have an update on expected timescale for fixing from mumsnet techie please as this seems to be taking an age!

OliviaMumsnet · 11/08/2011 19:50

Hello
Will see what if anything I can find out.

Neverlandpirate · 11/08/2011 22:50

If you delete the app from your phone and then resynch the phone to your computer, the original version pre-update should be there for you to resend to your phone.

This only works as long as you haven't already synched the new app to the computer.

I did this as suggested by TECH and it worked, I now have the original app on my phone. The app store still has the update available to download on my iPhone, but I will not download it until i know that it has been changed. (keep a check on the date of the update via the app store as a guide to any nee updates).

SleepySuzy · 12/08/2011 21:10

Too late for me Sad

SlugsAndSnails · 13/08/2011 19:51

Oh I couldn't make this work either Sad
No mobile MN for me panic what am I going to do!
iPhone4, btw for the Tech people, followed instructions to update; hasn't worked properly since.

DarrenMumsnet · 16/08/2011 12:53

Just a quick note to reassure you that we have been doing our best to get this problem resolved. We have been communicating regularly with the developers and they have informed us that the app became corrupted when the images and code were last published. They are now working hard to fix it.

As soon as they tell us any more information we will post.
