Hi all,
We've launched Gransnet today. It mimics the Mumsnet format but is for Grandparents, so they can chat about and pool ideas on their grandchildren, hobbies, relationships and anything else they fancy. If you know any Grans please do point them to Gransnet.com. NB any Grans on MN who'd rather hang out here are most welcome to do so and under no obligation to go to Gransnet but if you fancy taking a look, please feel free. (You could always do both Smile)
Any feedback is very welcome here. Txs

Just read about this on Yahoo homepage and there seem to be some 'interesting' (ie bloody stupid) comments about it already, like this one .................. Grin

Free Speaker... 2 hours ago "If Gransnet turns out to be anything like mumsnet, I, for one, will NOT be joining!! Mumsnet is very cliquey with the vast majority of nasty comments on the forums coming from hard-nosed feminists. No-one's opinion matters or counts for anything on there unless the feminists say it can.

I agree that to name it 'Gransnet' is totally unfair... there are just as many Granddads out there too.

I am NOT a feminist, I AM a female and a Nanny/Granny too... nope, think I'll give this a miss too."

ristretto - i was thinking the same - they are mums but older and with older children....maybe there will eventually be a cut off point established from MN to GN - like when they all go up in the air on Logan's run....

JustineMumsnet · 05/05/2011 16:32

Yes indeed Grans v welcome on MN, but choice is good, no? And given how many threads on here are about the MIL, a place to moan about the DIL might be useful. MN is also v big and fast moving. Think GN could be an easier place for those who've not used forum-based sites to cut their teeth. But, we'll see. Clearly it will only work if it's wanted and helpful.

@BecauseImWorthIt

I'm trying, Justine! (It's really weird to see your own posting name showing in nearly all Active convos)

Ha, I know. Remember the early days of MN when I used to talk to myself under different pseudonyms. Was a shock when someone actually answered Grin.

There is a thread posted by someone who is asking/hoping that there will be no bad language on gransnet. That's going to be interesting to watch!

I don't understand the 'Learn to live' tab on the homepage. Assuming the grandparents are 50 plus years of age presumably they have already learned how to live?

jimswifein1964 · 05/05/2011 17:08

I think that's a bit pedantic! Nothing wrong with having a twee title for a section Smile

stream · 05/05/2011 18:51

Lovely picture of a grandparent and baby on the home page. Smile

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 19:57

Well,I should fit in with my name...not sure about no swearing though!

Yes, like the logo and the look of the site.

Have got my mum posting already.

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 20:41

Just joined, but it won't let me log in.
Probably knows that I swear like a bloody trooper!

edam · 05/05/2011 21:01

I registered just to say hello and realised to my horror that technically I'm old enough to be a grandparent. Without being a teenage mum or having had a teenager who gets up the duff. (Not that there's anything wrong with teenage mothers, just makes me feel VERY old.)

eek. Maybe I'll have to up sticks and go over there permanently...

lisalisa · 05/05/2011 21:21

I remember the early days too Justine.... I've been a member since about 2001/2

mybrainsthinkingfuckyou · 05/05/2011 22:22

so has it got an arch enemy/nemesis called Netgrans yet?!!!

usualsuspect · 05/05/2011 22:35

Its not for me ..I like swearing

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 22:44

Not sure about the name. I get called 'Nana' by my GC...I hate 'Gran'!
NanaNet doesn't quite do it though, does it?

shabbapinkfrog · 05/05/2011 22:44

I have had slightly too much drink to get my head around Gransnet Grin have tried to register, honestly I have!!! Dont know if you have to use the same name that you have on MN or...........Oh will have another look in the morning when I am in 'charge' of my grandson.....by the way, can you get arrested for being 'hungover whilst in charge of an almost 3 year old???' Grin

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 22:47

I did use my MN name,Shabba. It let me register, but cannot log in.
It's 'cos I swear!

shabbapinkfrog · 05/05/2011 22:53

PMSL - I reckon that Gransnet knows I once once banned from Mumsnet for a whole weekend - a whole farking weekend - just cause I was bitchy and said rude words....

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 23:00

Grin lightweight shabba...only a weekend?

shabbapinkfrog · 05/05/2011 23:03

I was, and am, very proud of an entire 48 hours - where no matter whose bloody computer I went on and googled Mumsnet - a blank white screen came up with (in black font) FORBIDDEN written in the corner. My best, non MNet mates, peed their sides laughing at me. My MN mates formed an escape committee for me. It was a sad time...PMSL....I was very sad and lonely. This has decided me I AM STAYING ON MUMSNET.....'We shall not, we shall not be moved, we shall not, we shall not..........'

crazynanna · 05/05/2011 23:05

That hangover's going to be a stinker, shabba!
