McDonalds Ads - tell us how do you feel about them folks?

Good day MNetters,
We've been asked if we'd host ads for McDonalds, so we thought we'd ask what you think. Would you object to banner ads (ie like the one at the top of the page) on Mumsnet?
Let us know.

I try to take as little notice of adverts as possible so one more to ignore won't bother me!

piprabbit · 04/03/2011 20:34

Fast food ads, including McDonalds are not banned from TV. We've recently had the McD's singing adverts and I saw one for a McD's breakfast yesterday (they are open from 6am in participating outlets Grin).

Fast food ads are banned from children's TV, but MN in no way equates to kids TV, my DD isn't allowed to read over my shoulder because of the explicit language on MN but I let her watch TV on her own sometimes.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 04/03/2011 20:34

Yes. They are. and they see ads.

But since I control what they eat, it doesn't matter.

They see ads for that silly red wii thing. That's a great big load of tough shit too.

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 20:34

so your children won't see the ads hogs - or any other posters' children?

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 20:35

it's double standards - any thoughts from hq justine yet??

vacamoni · 04/03/2011 20:35

No, please don't take their money. I would have a big problem with them advertising on here. One of the world's most unethical companies (anyone who thinks otherwise is having a head in sand moment!). Don't grubby yourselves by association with them.

Avantia · 04/03/2011 20:36

Put the McDonald advert on -just to see who really will flounce off MN in a huff about it !

earlyriser · 04/03/2011 20:43

I would object, and if i was constantly bombarded with their propoganda adverts i might not visit mn so often. I always seem to inadvertently click on these ads and, as a vegan, i would be horrified if my click on a macd ad resulted in them thinking they actually had an audience.

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/03/2011 21:08

the ads dont bother me

i find the threads (babyliss big hair, boden, steam mops, 30 shreds to name a few) all far more persuasive!
*disclaimer, i am a gullible idiot

I would be absolutely disgusted if I inadvertently clicked on an ad for Mark Warner and saw a holiday that I and my family could never afford to go on

:o

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 21:17

I don't care really..makes no difference to me who advertises

TWDA · 04/03/2011 21:23

Yes, I would object because I think they and they're 'food' are crap. Are u telling me you can't get other advertisers to take the space or are they offering such an obscene amount to get at our kids thru their parents that u can't turn it down. Take the amount they're offering and use that as a new position to negotiate with other advertisers instead.

think mn were bored tonight and wanted to mix things up personally

MilkNoSugarPlease · 04/03/2011 21:31

That did amuse me quite alot Maryz :o

I'm still failing to see the big deal over this...But I also don't see the big deal over the Néstle boycott crap...

varyingdegreesofdeafness · 04/03/2011 21:31

Would i stop viewing mumsnet if you advertise mcd's? No.
Would I stop viewing mumsnet if you charged to join / post / view? Yes.

But isn't McD's rather netmums?

Rhinestone · 04/03/2011 21:34

Can't you have Waitrose instead? So much...nicer.

fortyplus · 04/03/2011 21:38

Wait till McDs run the ad for the special offer Happy Meal with Fruit Shoot Grin

AMumInScotland · 04/03/2011 21:43

I may be odd, but I'm actually more bothered by the idea that MNHQ have an "editorial stance" on their advertising which says that Boden is "us" and McD's isn't. I don't come here to be preached at from on high, or because I'm part of some imagined demographic, and I don't like the idea that MNHQ in any way "speaks for me" in what they do or don't do, or even in the campaigns that they get involved in. I haven't signed up to be a member of any particular protest group by coming on here to chat.

I have ishoos at times with the whole Boden/M&S/Waitrose vibe, but tell myself that isn't really what MN is about. But then things like this come along, and I wonder if I'm really in a place where I'm surrounded by snobs who look down on everything I do....

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 21:45

to my mind it doesn't amuminscotland - but i do despair that they ban tv advertising for mcdonalds yet can do it here

piprabbit · 04/03/2011 21:50

But they haven't banned TV advertising of McDs Confused.

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 21:53

they have for children's tv, i was so annoyed about it at the time but no-one else cared :(

Poxykids · 04/03/2011 21:55

I don't buy McDonalds for me or my children.

I still won't buy McDonalds if they advertise on here.

I don't understand the issue. As far as I am aware, this is not CBeebies .
