Unwelcome visitors - and recent "unpopular" threads

Hello

We thought you should know that we've had a few "visitors" lately who have, collectively, been hellbent on stirring up bunfights on the boards.

They're not your average hairy trucker/bored schoolboy/silly perve but a group from another (now defunct, it seems) forum.

They were behind the Unpopular Opinions thread - and a fair few other threads that have kicked off recently.

We're on the case.

But we would appreciate your help with "Hoovering" up any visitors our Ban button may have missed.

So do report any suspicions using the Report link, and we promise to check 'em out - though it make take us a while

Many thanks, MNHQ

BitOfFun, not sure if you are joking with me? Sorry if I seemed to be asking questions to get people stirred up; I really didn't mean it like that (just curious, and not entirely sober), but, re-reading my previous post, can see that it might read like stirring. Apologies if that's how it came across.

BitOfFun · 12/02/2011 00:46

No no no. I just meant that your name is so familiar to me that I assumed you were an oldie Smile

Smile

Some of us are quite new on here, but it doesn't mean we're all troublemakers Grin

I'm not from a rival gang either Hmm

Hope MNHQ aren't inadvertently stirring up a troll hunt !

A troll hunt does sound rather fun though doesn't it ?

A bit like "The gruffalo ?"

I can see deer stalker being appropriate attire also !

HelenMumsnet · 12/02/2011 18:10

@BeerTricksPotter

I am sick and tired of reporting the same two arseholes, only to get "Thank you for the heads up, we will look at this poster".

Yep, look at them when they've annoyed so many posters that MN starts to fucking whiff a bit Angry

We've mailed you, BeerTricks

@whomovedmychocolate

MNHQ I think you're going to far with the deletions. It is absolutely sodding ridiculous to just blanket delete posts that actually aren't offensive but just question the poster. On this thread someone said 'I don't believe you' and it was deleted. This is ridiculous. It's not 'I don't believe you and therefore you are a bridge dwelling troll' in any case. And no it wasn't my post so I'm not taking umbrage at that, but at the heavy handed editing.

OTT and not for the first time either. :(

I'm really starting to feel this site is not for me anymore. :(

Link for those who didn't see the thread - well what's left of it.

Ok, hands up it was Mubarak me, wmmc.

We'd had a barrel-load of reports about that thread, saying that it was full of trollhunting. And it did read like that to us, tbh: a whole load of people posting "I don't believe you" to the OP, the clear implication being that she was not a genuine poster.

But we'd had a full-on week of trollishness and Hoovering to reckon with and, in the cold light of a Saturday evening (tautology alert) we do concede now that we may have gone in a bit on the heavy side.

On another note entirely, many thanks to all those who've reported their suspicions about various posters to us this week. It's all been most helpful.

@LeninGrad

Sure, but I'd like to know that if someone repeatedly flouts the rules they are warned about it. I'm sure they are, and I realise that every thread and situation is different, but the point it to proactively stop it.

Yes, they are, LeninGrad. But we can only warn them if people report their posts to us in the first place.

Hello Lenin. I see that you are still beating me in the fantasy football league, but I really don't mind much...

I really don't want to stir people up. And I realise that some thing(s) happened on here to annoy/upset people while I was away in late January/early February. I admit I'm nosey, but I'm really not asking about that any more, as I don't want to upset anyone by getting any old arguments going again.

But I find that I'm becoming obsessed with this question: 'What has happened to DaftPunk'?

Daft punk was racist and homophobic, and at times she expressed deeply offensive opinions.

Memoo · 13/02/2011 01:10

I just can't believe that the first time I make it onto a Mn list bloody Ted sits on it.

And I'm afraid Ted has leaked a bit over the list too.

SpringHeeledJack · 14/02/2011 22:18

Hello, Princess!

I too assumed you 'd been round for donkeys...

...and I too have been away since the beginning of Jan, and find that a couple of hours on here on Friday made my eyes fair bulge out of my head

there, HQ. I'd like to see you make a smiley for that

PrincessFiorimonde · 15/02/2011 19:44

Bugger, now I know I've just been posting too much drivel!

Off to join the Trappists. Or, rather, the online equivalent...
