Unwelcome visitors - and recent "unpopular" threads

Hello

We thought you should know that we've had a few "visitors" lately who have, collectively, been hellbent on stirring up bunfights on the boards.

They're not your average hairy trucker/bored schoolboy/silly perve but a group from another (now defunct, it seems) forum.

They were behind the Unpopular Opinions thread - and a fair few other threads that have kicked off recently.

We're on the case.

But we would appreciate your help with "Hoovering" up any visitors our Ban button may have missed.

So do report any suspicions using the Report link, and we promise to check 'em out - though it make take us a while

Many thanks, MNHQ

Sounds like a plan.

MNHQ I think you're going to far with the deletions. It is absolutely sodding ridiculous to just blanket delete posts that actually aren't offensive but just question the poster. On this thread someone said 'I don't believe you' and it was deleted. This is ridiculous. It's not 'I don't believe you and therefore you are a bridge dwelling troll' in any case. And no it wasn't my post so I'm not taking umbrage at that, but at the heavy handed editing.

OTT and not for the first time either. :(

I'm really starting to feel this site is not for me anymore. :(

Link for those who didn't see the thread - well what's left of it.

BitOfFun · 11/02/2011 23:04

Sorry I missed it. But don't you dare go anywhere, WMMC. We don't see enough of you as it is.

whomovedmychocolate I don't know whats occuring ..too many deletions for my liking too ..I dunno what to do Its shite atm

BitOfFun · 11/02/2011 23:13

I don't know- it needs doing sometimes. I reported an incredibly racist post that went totally under the radar earlier, and it went within minutes.

whodeletedmyposts · 11/02/2011 23:16

BoF - thank you but sheesh, it feels like Egypt here tonight.

Lenin - no they don't contact or explain. I had a post deleted and I didn't notice for ages, nor was it particularly evil or trollhuntery. Apparently if you are a repeat offender you get a little note.

MNHQ could you please think about making one topic - perhaps chat - the domain of no deletions except for libel and self-endangerment. That way, if people come on and make trouble, we can self-police them - this happens anyway, as it did tonight on the other thread -and if people aren't comfortable they can just mosey on to one of the other six gazillion topics can't they? YABVVU ATM IMHO.

bibbitybobbityhat · 11/02/2011 23:16

I think to a certain extent it depends who is the unlucky soul doing the Friday night shift at mnhq.

The decision to delete is pretty subjective, I would have thought. It can't be put to t'committee every time. So different bods will have different levels of tolerance, or different levels of trigger-happiness.

I guess.

As I understand it, if you namechange to poke fun they block you from changing name for a bit. If they delete you they don't say anything unless you are prolifically being deleted and eventually they tell you to bog off entirely.

But I agree totally Lenin. Perhaps they could introduce a emoticon to attach to the threads of the most deleted Wink

whodeletedmyposts · 11/02/2011 23:21

usualsuspect - oh I have reported for offensiveness/racism and just plain nastiness in the past. But it's quite rare. It's more often the OP taking umbrage when someone says something they don't like.

whodeletedmyposts · 11/02/2011 23:21

and BoF - I'm on the Paul McKenna thread every single day, several times. I'm not absent, I'm just preoccupied with making my bottom smaller. :)

usualsuspect · 11/02/2011 23:25

I don't report often in fact I sometimes want the post to stand so people can see what other posters are all about

AnyFucker · 11/02/2011 23:26

I have reported only about twice in several years on MN

I too think they should stand

Evidence, innit

BitOfFun · 11/02/2011 23:32

I must miss you then, WMMC, if it's in General Health, because I have to hide that because of boils and discharges Grin

PrincessFiorimonde · 12/02/2011 00:05

Gosh.

I've been away for 3 weeks and I've come back to find all these accusations flying about. (In between the offers of Wine and Brew, obviously.) And I don't know what the acrimony is all about.

I know I'm not a well-known poster, and I've been on MN only about 16 months, but still:

Gosh.

AND can anyone tell me, please, if Daftpunk has left/been banned?

PrincessFiorimonde · 12/02/2011 00:07

SpringHeeledJack ^and^ Bibbity, of course Blush
