Are you using the mobile version of Mumsnet? How can we improve it?

Hello. We hope you've all had a chance to use the mobile version of MN at m.mumsnet.com/.

We know there has been the odd technical glitch with it - and we're busy sorting those out.

But we reckon it's working pretty well on the whole - so now we'd like to know what we can do to improve it.

Please post here any thoughts you have about features you'd like to see on the mobile version that aren't there at present.

All ideas welcome - we'd love to build up a good picture of what you'd most like to see. (But no promises, mind!)

(For problems with existing features, please continue to post on the other thread.)

Thanks v much, MNHQ

I click on 'add post', 'report post' and 'talk guidelines' by mistake all the time. So I find myself having to scroll and resize all the time. Also, it's annoying to click on a link in the mobile site and have it open in the main site.

Fenouille · 31/12/2010 12:52

JetSetWilly I cut and pasted your name to start with Grin As I said, I'm pretty sure it's phone related as I can select text pretty much from anywhere with my Desire. Just tap and hold the word I want (or the point I want to start selecting text from) and a context menu pops up with the choice to start/stop selecting text, cut, copy, paste, etc. I doubt you can programme that type of functionality into a web page.

For all those wanting to scroll down quickly , 'add message' link at the bottom of every post (next to the report button) takes you to the bottom of the page.

Another thing that would be great is if the bold and strike through characters could be applied across more than one word, like for italics. But I'd like that for the normal site too.

Fenouille · 31/12/2010 12:55

Actually, on web sites it's a slightly different context menu that only lets you copy, share or search.

Oh goodness, please, please could we be entrusted with an edit function?

foxinsocks · 31/12/2010 15:16

I don't think search works either

JetSetWilly · 01/01/2011 18:56

Fenouille I can now cut and paste on my iPhone! Thank you thank you thank you! (need to c&p as you say, not double click)

I had a go the other day on DH's Blackberry and found it really hard to use. Lots of scrolling through long lists of links and white space. My 10min play on the phone though has put me off doing any web browsing as just couldn't get a grip on most sites layout.

ditto itsonlyajob - aside from 'active threads' being slightly larger, it's perfect.

BlingLoving · 03/01/2011 10:47

It would be very helpful to have a menu bar at the bottom of a thread as well as top. I often get to end if thread and find it frustrating having to manually scroll to top to find the menu. Scrolling like that is much easier on a proper computer.

Fenouille · 03/01/2011 12:26

itsonlyajob and JarethTheGoblinKing, totally agree. Are we the only ones with a 'back to top' link on each message? I actually prefer that to how it's done on the pc now.

I think the moral of this thread has to be: buy a HTC Desire Grin

fel1x · 03/01/2011 15:25

The things I'd like are
a 'back to top' link at bottom of threads and at bottom of active convos
a hide thread button
post count
and to move report thread link as it gets pressed by mistake!

Seems as though some people already get a 'back to top' link on their mobile version. I have an iphone and dont have it...not sure if its phone related...

fel1x · 03/01/2011 15:25

oh and agree with the links going to the mobile version as well rather than the web version if you are mn mobile, that would be much better Smile

CrispyTheChristmasCracker · 03/01/2011 15:29

I have a 'back to top' button after each post, along with an 'add message' button (which can be used to jump to the bottom) on my iphone version

MarniesMummy · 03/01/2011 22:56

I can't log on as there are no active boxes to click on and enter text.

KorrallKrabba · 04/01/2011 14:51

Loads better than when I tried it initially on blackberry, although it does double-post thing frequently, which is annoying and not just my hammer hands.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/01/2011 17:05

Having number of messages in bracket by the side of each thread like on normal mn would be good. Then you know if somethings turned into a bunfight and shouldn't be missed.

SleepWhenImDead · 11/01/2011 13:59

It would be improved if I didn't have to keep logging in on the laptop and my iPhone after I've just used MN on the other device. Why can't I be logged in on both? Also would be good to know number of responses in Active Conversations list.

rosiebabe · 17/04/2011 22:09

I have already sent you an email but am also sending you message here.

I use Mumsnet mostly on my mobile phone. However, when I have logged on with password and nickname it just wont connect me up to the mobile page for some reason. Have given you my mobile number and email address in the email that I have sent you.

Hope you can help me with this quety.

Thanks,

Lorna Brown

Did anyone get any help with the BlackBerry posting twice problem? Mine does this too.

shonnomanom · 08/07/2011 08:14

This week I have twice posted on MN from my mobile. And twice it has posted duplicate postings. The very first time (Wednesday) the same message was posted 48 times, yes you read that correct. Then this morning it posted my message 11 times, not quiet as Blush as 48 but just the same.

I hope MN Tech can get this sorted soon and prevent further blushes of other MNers
