I think often the thread gets started because someone is feeling warm and glowy about the place, inspired by something or other - but it obviously leads to the lists and so on.

It seems really you get mentioned if you post a lot. You can't be noticed by loads of people if you barely post. You have to have a bit of an addiction to this place.

I used to get mentioned a lot on these but it wasn't because I am especially popular or wonderful, it was because I was evident, because I was on here all the bloody time. I was very needy, and got what I needed I suppose.

Now I post far less but still am one of those familiar names I suppose because I used to post such a lot. People who don't post much don't get remembered. So don't feel bad if you are not on here.

It doesn't mean you're not popular, it just means you don't have a day glo sign above your head saying 'love me'

Oh I think there's an element to the theory that those that post more get recognised more. Of course.

But some of the people I admire most on here don't post very often at all. But when they do, they are the most considered, kind and wonderful posts.

Y'see my name's on here a couple of times (not this silly namechange, my usual folky, weirdy beardy name) and I'm certainly not a prolific poster imo. In fact, people only remember me because I post in the same areas when I do post. And generally about David Mitchell, gingerbread or folk music. I have few interests you see. Am easy to pigeon hole.

Flight; I Agree with alot of what you said, although there are posters who only appear once in a while who I like and remember, ( i find the prolific posters a bit boring tbh )

I will add you to my list, I often find myself agreeing with you and you seem kinda cool.

I agree there are some prolific posters who make no impact on my conciousness at all because they make white noise, whilst others always have something interesting and memorable to say - but I still think you've got more chance of being royalty popular if you spend an unhealthy amount of time on here instead of getting on with real life! And some people are the most terrible terrible suck-ups who just panda to everything certain people say.

Agree FN; and I know they'll take this on the chin, but the posters named a lot on this thread (more than 4 times) are like stuck records, yawn city as far as I'm concerned.

oh and I do give my kid fruit shoots and greg sauage rolls so there, i have been faking all this time Im really a chav spy from Netmums and I refuse to answer any questions about my fav biscuit
