Isn't it time MN Towers was staffed through the night?

RambleOn · 15/07/2010 00:56

That thread being trolled at the moment is the worst example I've ever seen. Poor woman going through a traumatic experience like that and then logging on to her thread offering support and a lot of piss-taking

Surely this site is big enough to warrant someone monitoring through the night? Hell, I'll do it, I'm often on here till the early hours and it would solve my out-of-school-hours-job problem in a flash.

I think this is where the call for Mods comes into its own.

I think that there is a case for a few long standing posters to have the ability to delete posts.

There are enough people here who post at various times of the day and night.
there only needs to be a handfull of people. they dont need any powers other than to delete posts that are offensive.

I think it is clear which they are, questionable threads can be left till morning but the ones tonight are probably the worst i have ever seen.

Even trolls usually have some common decency

BertieBotts · 15/07/2010 01:06

Seconded - perhaps the mods could have powers to screen/freeze posts for MNHQ to review for deletion or reinstating in the morning. The middle of the night is when the most desparate threads tend to happen after all. And if someone is new to mumsnet/forums and their thread is deleted because of a troll invasion they may not think to look for a shout out etc.

I understand that it's an open website and it's not MN's responsibility to keep these threads "sacred" but I really think the risks of these powers being abused is tiny compared to the benefits gained.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 01:07

WHY? Then it would be like every other forum: dull, over-censored, pointless.

But then, I've not seen this thread, but I agree with Gigantuer, in such a case.

MrsRhettButler · 15/07/2010 01:09

worst you have ever seen?

Orangerie · 15/07/2010 01:12

Please leave the thread alone and don't reply to provocation, hopefully those comments would be deleted before the OP read them. And hopefully, that thread could stay there to provide some support to the OP.

BertieBotts · 15/07/2010 01:17

Expat has a point actually - it could lead to things being over censored.

I definitely think in this case some kind of emergency action should be able to be taken. I'd definitely agree it's the worst trolling I've ever seen Some sick people around.

Jaquelinehyde · 15/07/2010 01:19

I'm disgusted that anyone could post such nasty, sickening comments in the name of having a laugh on such a traumatic thread.

I'm 100% happy for people to have some fun but what a few of them have said is horrific, oh and it was all so one of them could win a place at someones pad in singapore whilst a race was one

RambleOn · 15/07/2010 01:28

Agree that it could lead to overcensorship. It's one of the things I love about MN that it rarely is.

But this is the first one where I've thought, FFS, this woman is teetering on the edge of staying in a very abusive relationship, with her DD who could be equally at risk, could be physically damaged as we speak, and is worried about telling anyone. What could it do to her to read these 'hilarious' comments?

Am very cross.

Just wait until the day shift get a hold of this. The night shift are pretty tame really (most of the time)

Quite frankly they disgust me.

I think MN should suspend people from opening accounts for 24 hours.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 01:29

Where is this thread?

Sorry, I have dreadful insomnia and spend much of my time like this talking to people in America, so I probably missed this.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 01:30

I will always agree with you in things like this, Gig. WHERE is this? Sorry, am chatting simultaneously to a person in NYC who's been my friend since 1986.

it seems i have been thrown off of their site already.

amazing that they can be so fucking quick to prevent their precious members from being upset and yet it is ok to allow their followers to come and do this.

I just saw a couple more comments like
"you wait till daytime, we are gonna rip you a new arsehole. oops"

and another where he openly admits he is heading straight for the more sensetive subject areas.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 01:48

ffs.

here i am, reconnecting with the high school friend who loved me, 21 years later, and this comes on!

Gigantaur · 15/07/2010 01:49

go chat Expat.

i am going to switch off now as i dont want to be here when they all come over.

I am hoping that DDD continues to be sporadic in her posting and doesn't come on until this has cleared up.

RambleOn · 15/07/2010 01:51

yeah expat, have a great chat, old friends are the best friends

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 01:52

oh no. i'm off to bed myself, or pretending to be. 'm' was always rich. but clueless me didn't see it. ever. i'll give myself that much. if i had, i'd have been with him.

that is why he loved me. because i never saw it, i was that dumb.

i'm not going to bed, but well, i don't know.

i don't know anything anymore.

Tech · 15/07/2010 01:52

Hi, we've deleted the offensive messages. Please report any we've missed. Thanks.

I'm utterly sick of this happening.

Funny how it's always the 'super boys clubs' type of sites that do this. It's pure misogyny. "Ooh, lets wind up the silly women and their pointless chatter", esepcially as we're mothers* so not deemed as 'fuckable'.

*I know not all posters are mothers, or even female, but you get the point.

Kaloki · 15/07/2010 01:55

Tech can you ban their IP addresses at all?

expatinscotland · 15/07/2010 02:13

no, i wouldn't have. i always loved him for him.

all i can do now is be a friend. he is in germany. gees, what is this nordic man kick and business?!

[nibbles another biscuit i really don't need]

Gigantaur · 15/07/2010 08:12

Sterling work Tech.

DuelingFanjo · 15/07/2010 08:25

why is it always motoring forums which do this? I wonder if there is any way MNHQ can contact PH and make it clear to them that they should be issuing an apology and should be banning the members from their own site who behaved so disgracefully, particularly in cases like this where they have crossed the line.

DuelingFanjo · 15/07/2010 08:27

looks like they targeted us previously too here
