This year we are going to start buying camping equipment for future holidays, been camping pre-kids and always went on camping holidays as a child.

Ok, Dh thinks we should get a big frame tent. I'm sure you know the thing I mean. Big window at the front, 2 layers of canvas.
I prefer the big dome tents, they look so much more 21st century for a start.

Which is better?

Also if you have any other helpful hints and tips of stuff to add to our list I'd be grateful.

The factory second with postage is £200 - thought that was a bargin!

Blandmum · 03/05/2006 17:15

Didn't see that bit. Why is it a second?

leggymamba · 03/05/2006 17:18

the factory seconds are customer returns/trade display /photographic stock. they may have had some use and may have been repaired in some way. (don't panic-they haven't been on holiday for 6 months)

we take all of the khyam seconds so I can't give an accurate description of each tent . we do check each one before it leaves and would not send one if it was not in good condition, however we can't guarantee that the tents will be in 'as new ' condition in each case, so if you are only willing to accept a tent that is brand new, untouched, condition then these bargain priced tents are not for you!

What do you think?

Blandmum · 03/05/2006 17:25

If you are sure any probelms will only be minor/cosmetic....then go for it!

Khyams are a highly respected brand and they really are supposed to be that easy to put up!

Filyjonk · 03/05/2006 18:02

can't get my head round khyams, there are 2 types, yes? The ones that basically put themselves up, and the ones you have to faff around with.

Anyway, we have just bought a Campus, which apparently the same as a faffy khyam, ie its made by the same people, but cheaper. We have the campus harvard and its too big to put up in the garden, which I feel is a good sign.

If looking at that price range, we just got our Tahoma on ebay for £189.99 including postage, supposed to be good (see my other tent thread) and it's- ta da- bug safe!! it's from a shop rather than a second, and he still had a couple left earlier on there.

We have a Khyam Sun Shelter (posh camping gazebo) which is very easy to put up. If you look at the Khyam website you can watch videos of the tents being erected.

Hi
Joining the camping club !
DH and I loved it pre kids, but I have decided cheap and cheerful holidays here we come !!
We have 3 kids, nearly 5, 2 and 11 months.
Reeeeeally like the Vango Aspen 500 DLX.
We want a large living space to have a table, cook in/sit in etc, and I like having the bedrooms next to each other at the back, also like the idea of a porch.

My only fear before I bite the bullet and order is that it says it takes 2 people 55 minutes...hmmmmmm I can't see the kids sitting in the car for that long ! :o
Any advice greatly welcomed ! Thank you !
