This year we are going to start buying camping equipment for future holidays, been camping pre-kids and always went on camping holidays as a child.

Ok, Dh thinks we should get a big frame tent. I'm sure you know the thing I mean. Big window at the front, 2 layers of canvas.
I prefer the big dome tents, they look so much more 21st century for a start.

Which is better?

Also if you have any other helpful hints and tips of stuff to add to our list I'd be grateful.

ahem, sorry to interrupt the zip loc thread {grin]

Argos have got up to a third off their tents and sleeping bags at the moment, if anyone wants a warm bag then i can recommend \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3407930/Trail/C%24cip%3D36237.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D36238.Camping%2Band%2Bcaravaning%3EC%24cip%3D40760.Tents%2Band%2Bsleeping%2Bbags.htm\this one} we bought it last year and were like toast in it in September in N Wales!

Lucycat · 27/04/2006 12:56

ooh and manitz, how about \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3408599/Trail/C%24cip%3D36237.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D36238.Camping%2Band%2Bcaravaning%3EC%24cip%3D40760.Tents%2Band%2Bsleeping%2Bbags.htm\this tent?}

Grin only on special occasions!

KBear · 27/04/2006 14:39

Lucycat - I've got that tent - it's FAB. And I only paid £79.99 in last year's sale!

Roll on summer, campers!

Twiglett · 28/04/2006 13:27

This might be a dumb question .. but if I wanted to take my laptop is there a way to plug it in (a portable generator kind of thing) .. cos it only has about a 50 min battery life

LadyTophamHatt · 28/04/2006 13:40

I keep coming back to this thread, feeling all proud that its doing so well.
DH is most impressed with you all and is pretty much sold on one linked way down the thread( i think you linked lucykate)

You would use an EHU. It is an extension lead that is safe enough to use outdoors in poor weather. You have to use a proper one.....with all the safelty cut outs etc. They cost about £50-£70. You can't just use an extension lead, that would be dangerous. Sites will also charge you extra for a pitch with an electrical hook up

Lucycat · 28/04/2006 16:12

I think I linke this ehu before \link{http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/products.asp?partno=3895\here you go} once you've got one you can take a heater, a kettle ooh all sorts of stuff!

Well worth it!

manitz · 28/04/2006 18:51

thanks lucy cat. think i might go with your yale tent. bit scared of frames.

dh the non-camper has just confirmed altho didn't have time to look at them all...

Lucycat · 28/04/2006 19:36

ooh goody! let us know when you have got it, it's worth looking at Argos for cheap (warm!) sleeping bags too if you need them!

Glad to be of assistance, wish we were going away this weekend, but we've too much on Sad

madamechocolat · 29/04/2006 15:17

I am soooooo excited. Went to an outdoor place to look at tents. Have decided on either Montana 6 or Sunncamp Vario 600. Does anyone have any views. Actually preferred Sunncamp but Montana does have 3 pods.....
Will check in later - am frantically trying to tidy up - guests arrive in 20 mins. (Am turning into camping bore!)Grin

Personally I prefer the Monty, the Sunncamp looks a bit like a Nissen hut from ww2!

Both have sig's though and the extra bedroom will always come in useful, if only for storage!

< sing-songs > mb's going to be jea...lous Grin

UCM · 29/04/2006 17:17

I have just put a trailer tent on the for sale boards if anyone is interested. It belongs to my SIL and I have seen it up. It's a great buy for anyone starting out with a family camping for first time.
