I’ve noticed over the past week that there has been a bit of a tone shift on some threads on this board. Posters are requesting help and instead get a character assassination. Can we please leave that for the larger boards, this little corner of Mumsnet is generally more pleasant and friendly! Obviously it’s perfectly fine to give constructive criticism but lay off the personal digs. 💗

@DogsInPyjamas I will take your advice. I do come here for a bit of escapism, and as such had been minimally reporting. But I’ll take the report button more seriously from now on.

I feel kind we’ve gone back in time, where women were there to be nice regardless of what others behaved like. No questioning, no challenging, just ‘be nice’ and smile ladies. How about NO!

As pointed out already, providing posters stay within the mumsnet rules, posts stay.

I’m surprised you hadn’t done that already. Good decision to start doing so as mumsnet will rightfully delete personal attacks and rely on reports.

Mermaidparades · 16/05/2023 11:35

@TheDogIsMeowingAgain no, men and women can be polite to one another without being a walkover. I don’t feel like more of a modern woman when I tell someone who disagrees with me to ‘ fuck off’

@Mermaidparades I’m curious, are you going to report @innocentfun ? Clearly he doesn’t like the fact women are questioning, questionable posts and has resorted to insults, wasn’t your whole point based on being kind?

Rieslinger · 16/05/2023 11:53

@DogsInPyjamas It was meant for everyone and I don't mean it as simpering nonsense I mean it as thoughtfulness, consideration etc and by everyone I mean everyone.

Challenging posters or giving honest opinions are not being impolite. You should try get your head around that.

If someone DIRECTLY tells you to fuck off, I think mumsnet will delete it.

Mermaidparades · 16/05/2023 11:56

@MumMcphee no I won’t be wasting anyone’s time with that, if you’re offended by being referred to as a band of hope imagine how the OP felt in this situation:

Who was exploiting women in prostitution? If you’re referring to @DGConsultant , he stated that he wouldn’t consider doing that.
^^
Ok, maybe I was a bit unfair in the way I phrased that. But he definitely was perpetuating the myth of the happy hooker, which is just propaganda for pimps and pornographers. For that, he deserved to be slammed.
^^
To be honest, while women are still getting raped, assaulted, and traumatized on the daily, I just don't give a shit about a few sleazy men getting their feeling hurt. Their feelings are insignificant to me.

So a person can be defamed for the rape of unknown women just because they are a man? What the fuck?

Hopefully that OP realises that women in the sex industry are often vulnerable and will think twice before saying what he did again. My sympathies are with the women, not with the OP of that thread.

This. No extra rules are required.

I am not offended and stop deflecting, I am asking if you’re going to report that poster, your POV is be kind but you have basically said because you feel another person has keen unkind towards person, you’re going to ignore another poster that has tried to offend the female posters.

What the fuck?

Men who hold views like that will, not surprisingly, be pulled up about them on mumsnet. If the poster was a woman, she would be told the same.

It seems @Mermaidparades compassionate nature only extends to some posters. But we already knew that. 😉

I have given this thread enough headspace, so I’m going to hide it now. But, please just know that morally I had to speak up, I couldn’t just ignore the way people are being treated lately. Clearly empathy is gone now, it’s impossible to imagine how someone with Asperger’s might feel, the particular struggles faced by a blind person in the dating world, a Mum concerned about how to navigate her teenage daughter’s concerns.

You’ve literally listened to nothing on this thread. 🙄

See ya. 👋

But all of those things/people/situations/feelings are not under your control!

Report posts/posters you think are against TGs. But you don't have to shoulder responsibility for how other people might feel. That's exhausting.

Your previous post went against everything you stand for. It’s not about people being treated a certain way, it’s about people challenging the views/posts of those they don’t find acceptable and that’s part and parcel of posting on a public forum. It happens all over MN, not just here.
