In Britain is it normal for men to be circumcised or not?

I’ve just watched an episode of Good Trouble where one of the characters is very surprised that her boyfriend is uncircumcised. She talks about it with her friends and they all clearly regard it as very unusual. It reminded me that there is an episode of Sex and the City where one of the characters is also very surprised to find that a man is uncircumcised.

This makes me wonder: what’s the situation with this in Britain? I’ve always assumed that the vast majority of British men are uncircumcised, but I’ve not been with many men so don’t know whether this is the case. Just curious!

I’m my experience in the 1970s to 1990s, it was rare among British and other European men, but widespread among Australians and north Americans.

Suddenly circumcision has been massively reported in the media following the Prince Harry’s revelation that both he and his brother are circumcised. Absolutely no surprise that they were done at birth: it was very common in upper class English families. I’m English and was circumcised at birth too. I went to a private school in London and quite a lot of boys had also had it done for non-religious reasons. It’s rare in the rest of English society, apart from Jews and Muslims.

There is a definite increasing trend for adult men choosing to have it done and not for a medical reason. I think some is gym culture and an extension of flexing their muscles in pictures lol. Maybe porn as well as a lot of male porn actors are, but our increasing ethnic population whereby most Asian guys and a fair number of black are circumcised.

I'm in the medical field and we are definitely seeing this although they have to go private for it.

I haven't seen a whole lot of penises despite my username suggesting otherwise but I find that there is also a stereotype of what an intact man looks like but I've found most of the intact men I've slept with look nothing like that and they look cut! I can usually tell once they ask for a handjob though. Most Canadian men are intact.
