I have no desire to get drawn in a debate with anyone as to why I choose to remove my own pubic hair, nor was it the original issue raised by the OP. I’m in my 40s now and been doing so since mid teens; that’s more time without pubic hair than with. I have had men ask me to grow it and known women who are lesbian remove it.
Rather than porn, my own personal influences were French Art (I was brought up in France) my late mother, who kept hers ever so closely trimmed (nudity was never a big deal at home) and my elder sister who whips it all off. There is not a lot of porn influence there!
Another influence for many in recent times has been the brevity of lingerie, swimwear and gossamer fabrics, I am sure. It’s not that we all want to be porn stars! Far from it.
As for evidence throughout history, I do not pretend to be an historic expert, furthermore several things I have read have been in French, which I won’t search for again to link here even if I could find them.
