Do men really prefer a fully shaved/ waxed woman?

Hi all,

Slightly embarrassing topic. After a drunken chat with a group of friends (mix of men and women) I am starting to question what I have always thought was common or expected in terms of women's intimate grooming.

During the convo, all the male friends said they prefer it when women are fully shaved/ waxed down there. All of them! They said it is better for oral and a turn on in general. Also most of the female friends seemed to agree and implied that that was their preferred style.

I was a bit surprised, as I never realized that had become the expected norm and most popular style? I must have been living under a rock! Especially considering that I have been single for a couple of yearsConfused

Of course I acknowledge people have different tastes and expectations and not everyone is the same.

Exactly. Which guy ever said would waxing inside his pants for a woman? FFS they should celebrate fact we're having sex together. That's the real two-way compliment.

mamato3lads · 08/03/2019 10:39

I find it odd how some are like "who CARES what men prefer".. "take it or leave it" etc. Why so aggressive, there seems to be a blurred line between the right for a woman to choose what she does with her body and just telling men to go fuck themselves if they dare mutter a preference Confused. Surely its all about compromise.. Its fine to take into consideration what your man likes and if its no big deal to you, do it for him. For the record married to DH 17 years hes always preferred neat/shaved, finds it sexy and so that's what i do! Men are very visual! On the same note i prefer him neat and tidy down there too, so he obliges. Happy Days. Sure, do what YOU like but no harm in taking your OH preferences onboard too Smile

FizzyGreenWater · 08/03/2019 10:53

I suppose mama it's a case of some women being pretty urgh about the fact that the 'visuals' that seem to turn on soooo many of these 'visual creatures' they are married to are pretty much what the visual would be if a 12 year old girl was standing in front of them.

RosieBenenden · 08/03/2019 10:55

Agree with both previous posts but I guess one ex put me off waxing/shaving for that very reason of telling me wanted to imagine I was young. Right. Such a nice thing to hear!

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 10:58

Rosie at least he was honest about it. Along with refusing to see the links with porn I find it baffling that so many women refuse to see other links.

RosieBenenden · 08/03/2019 11:02

Yes he was at least honest about it. We were struggling sexually and so I think it was symptomatic of us not really enjoying sex together at that time.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/03/2019 11:06

Yup Rosie, says it all.

It's driven by porn, that's just... what it is. Associated with a woman being younger, more vulnerable - you join the dots. Meanwhile women giggle and bleat about feeling cleaner and fresher and ooooh soooo much easier to... um, spend loads of time removing time and time again the hair that's biologically designed to keep sweat and muck away from their genitals...

RosieBenenden · 08/03/2019 11:11

FizzyGreenWater YES. He was 43 and I was 32 and i remember him saying "pubic hair is for women who've let themselves go". WTF. He should have been in seventh heaven knowing I was letting him shag me every weekend. Certainly no loss to my present life.

Unguent · 08/03/2019 13:35

Yes, because shyly 'muttered' male preferences have had such an infinitesimally small impact on women's lives over the last few thousand years. Hmm

StarlightLady · 08/03/2019 16:28

People have been removing body hair back in tbe time of the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans.

There is lots and lots of pubic hair in porn. As in real life there is a mix.

Being hairy does not make you (a better) feminist. What you do with your own body hair is a personal choice.

Female, 40+, smooth, single and feminist.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 16:36

“People have been removing body hair back in tbe time of the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans”

Arguably. Possibly. But it was not routine for women in the U.K. until the late 70s/80s.

The narrative that women’s bodies are dirty/smelly/leaky/hairy and require modification to be acceptable is s profoundly feminist issue.

I think I may be one of the posters you were referring to. And you have misunderstood my point, which is this: nice men like you for who you are. They do not (in my experience) care whether you are hairy or not. Hairy sex with this sort of open minded man is great sex, and relationships with this sort of tolerant man are great relationships. Shallow, narrow-minded men with misogynist beauty standards which they want to shame the women in their lives into conforming with on the other hand, are unlikely to make for great sex or great relationships. So they can indeed go fuck themselves. Because I only want to fuck nice men.

SkinnyPete · 08/03/2019 17:32

This. And it's OK if you're man (or woman) and have a preference. Hobbyist Freuds can do one, although don't get me wrong, there's some weirdos out there that like it for the wrong reasons. Just keep that broad brush to yourself merci.

SkinnyPete · 08/03/2019 17:35

nice men like you for who you are

And this is some kind of next level fallacy right there.

Men (all men) are attracted to a female's physical form. Yes, we may like you for who you are, and the you act, which might make you even more attractive. But, we primarily like women because we're attracted to them. Every. Single. Time.

StarlightLady · 08/03/2019 18:28

Just because hair removal was practiced less in the 70s and 80s in the UK does not mean this is the case throughot even recent world history.

Do all these bush campaigners remove their underarm hair or have male partners who shave their faces? I have yet to come across a woman who opts to go for hair removal who tells bush bearers that they should do the same.

In addition, some women prefer a fully shaved/waxed woman.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 18:36

“Do all these bush campaigners remove their underarm hair or have male partners who shave their faces? I have yet to come across a woman who opts to go for hair removal who tells bush bearers that they should do the same.”

Well, the repeated assertion that having pubic hair is dirty/smelly/unhygenic suggests that everyone should do the same! It would certainly knock the confidence of many women, particularly younger ones.

Anyway, I am not telling anyone what to do. I just think it’s important that people think about what’s behind the decisions the make, because they don’t make them in a vacuum.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 18:50

“Just because hair removal was practiced less in the 70s and 80s in the UK does not mean this is the case throughot even recent world history”

My understanding is that UK women have never previously removed their pubic hair-when else did they do it?

RiverTam · 08/03/2019 19:44

There really isn't lots of pubic hair in porn, that is an absolute lie. Go onto any free site, click on any clip and I guarantee there will be no pubic hair.

This has informed a generation who have never had a sexual encounter will a peer who has pubic hair.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 19:55

I think you have to go a bit “specialist” to get hair these days.

I was re reading Jilly Cooper recently (because that’s the way I roll) and it was striking that all the women in the sex scenes had pubic hair- the colour and texture were much commented on. The only mention of removing it was a shaving scene that was obviously intended to be slightly kinky.

StarlightLady · 08/03/2019 20:12

Pubic hair can be seen on any free porn site as well as hair free. But interestingly rarely in classic art.

Men are often opting to go hair free too.

Everything I think I know is because I have read it or someone has told me. According to what I have read, hair removal was practiced in 1940s America, 1960s France (I was brought up in France but in my 40s, so younger), 19th century Egypt and amongst "the upper and middle classes" during the Restoration and Elizabethan perods. During the latter period it was also popular to remove eyebrow hair.

Some religions also require, women to remove their hair after each period, which I accept raises a seperate issue

Finally, hair removal increases sensitivity during oral. Don't challenge that unless you have tried it.

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 20:23

Sources, please?

Incidentally, if women said ”I remove my pubic hair because I find it sexy” that would be much less of an issue. But generally they don’t. They say “it’s nothing to do with sex or men or porn””It’s just cleaner””. I do it for me and I haven’t had sex for years” and stuff like that.

StarlightLady · 08/03/2019 22:53

Sources? Own body.

I’ve had sex in past 24 hours. I don’t pretend to be celibate. But what I do I still do for me!

BertrandRussell · 08/03/2019 23:38

No, I mean sources for your facts about the history of pubic hair removal!

Christian77 · 09/03/2019 00:08

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christian77 · 09/03/2019 00:13

I think it looks amazing and is so much better to go down on!

And I shave too!!!!

It looks better, especially when moisturised.

There is nothing worse than, in a moment of knicker-ripping passion, to be met with a hairy, unkempt minge.

Both ways.
