Personal hygiene

I read a twitter exchange arising from an article about poor female genital hygiene. One user said, “unperfumed soap and water, it’s not hard girls”. Lots of people responded saying you should never use soap on your vagina. The reply was “not inside it, no but on the folds”. This left some dumbfounded. Do some females really think that no cleaning agent should be used in the area at all?! Hmm

Always, always on these these threads are people who can smell a fanny that hasn’t been washed in the last 5 minutes. If you can’t smell it it’s because you don’t wash your own fanny often enough and have become “nose blind”

There was one memorable poster who claimed she could smell “unwashed bra” even through clean clothes.

I have a very sensitive sense of smell. I rarely notice BO unless i’m up close. The vast majority of people don’t smell.

JenniferL90 · 25/01/2018 11:57

Get the shower head down there, no soap needed. A few minutes on a good pressure does the trick nicely.

Oh, and it keeps it clean!

averylongtimeago · 25/01/2018 11:57

That's nice dear.

Now let's all share our intimate details so they can be wank fodder or end up in the daily wail.

reallyanotherone · 25/01/2018 11:57

It’s also interesting how people claim ttey can smell unwashed fanny, but never unwashed cock.

Because fannies are inherently unclean so if there is a smell that’s what it must be..

How very silence of the lambs

Oh bleurgh. Someone make it stop.

HairyBallTheorem · 25/01/2018 12:01

"I’m female/woman/whatever is the acceptable MN description"

Sure you are.

Or, as someone put it more succinctly upthread, "wank fodder."

Pepperedbeef · 25/01/2018 12:01

I think many of us have experienced the odour of a penis that needs washing, but I’ve never detected one unless it’s naked and I’m close to it. But my thread isn’t about that

I am a woman, but you can think I’m a man if it helps you make sense of the discussion Wink

Sparklingbrook · 25/01/2018 12:03

Oh right. Just to be clear what is this thread about?

Theresnonamesleft · 25/01/2018 12:04

Many that's what defines a woman/female.
The smell of fanny. Grin

LemonShark · 25/01/2018 12:04

"Today 10:58 WonderLime

I am, when it gets so bad you can detect the vaginal odour of somebody standing next to you who is fully clothed.

I don’t believe that has ever happened hmm"

I envy the posters who've never had this happen, it's happened several times. Stood next to someone and you can smell their dirty fanny. Or they walk past and you can smell it. Or you use the toilet stall after them and the stench is so bad it makes you gag. Can't believe people have never had this happen!

I think it's bacterial vaginosis or untreated thrush usually, I genuinely think some women believe it's normal to smell like that so it doesn't enter their minds to see a GP as they don't realise it's an infection. And their partners must be too embarrassed to say. A normal healthy vagina may have a scent but it is not supposed to smell like a dead animal or be disgusting or extremely unpleasant, it's not normal to smell like fish 😷 And it's not normal for it to be detectable by others from beneath layers of clothing!

Theresnonamesleft · 25/01/2018 12:04

Maybe not many..

What Lemonshark said!
Iv smelt dirty fannys, dirty willys and just dirty people in general. Yes my sense of smell is probably above average. Now what was the Aibu about again?

I don't understand why people are being so unpleasant. I think it's interesting

windchime I was the same in pregnancy, very strong.

Water only here.

Pepperedbeef · 25/01/2018 12:12

Sorry yes I never made it clear. AIBU to think girls and women should know how to keep their vulva clean (thanks to pp who gave it the correct name)

An old housemate of mine is a nurse and she has to dab peppermint oil inside her nostril for smear tests as so many women don't seem to wash properly or like I say, don't realise they have a raging infection and it's not supposed to smell like fish. She can't wear a mask as people would get offended but she has to open the windows after some of them. At least with a smear when they send results they can inform you they've found BV so it can be treated.

I feel like it should be common knowledge a vagina isn't odourless but it's also not supposed to smell like death. Maybe a lot of people are just really un self aware or they go nose blind from smelling it all the time.

Pepperedbeef · 25/01/2018 12:14

It’s interesting and serious only. People are being unpleasant simply because there are unpleasant people on MN. Or maybe this thread has just made them realise they stink Grin

You shouldn't use Johnsons as it can cause issues with ovarian cancer. The talc has been proven to be carcinogenic but I wouldn't use any of their products now.

Littlebitshort · 25/01/2018 12:15

Oh personal hygiene thats it.... i shower twice a day, shower gel down below and lots of it and dont have any problems with infections. Dont want a stinky fanny thank you! Also have showed my daughter how to wash her bits using a little shower gel and flannel and again no problems. I understand that many women are sensitive down below and there are done that suffer infections and feel for them but there are also some right dirty cows out there 😷
